Chapter 56: Evelyn Is Trying To Seduce Her?! (1)
The rest of the day was spent on what Verena could only describe as the worst talent scouting mission in history.
With Beatrice reluctantly in tow, they went around interviewing potential candidates from their class, only to find that competence was a rare and mythical creature.
Their first interviewee was Edwin, a boy with round glasses and the energy of someone who hadn’t slept in three years.
"So, why do you want to be part of the Eclipsor LGU?" Verena asked.
"I don’t."
She blinked. "Then why are you here?"
"I was promised free food."
"...Who told you that?"
Edwin pointed at Beatrice.
"It was the only way to get people to show up."
Verena buried her face in her hands. "Next."
The second interview was worse.
Verena and Beatrice sat across from Celeste, a girl who had a thousand-yard stare and a concerning number of conspiracy theory notebooks.
"What’s your leadership philosophy?" Beatrice asked, deciding to take the lead.
Celeste leaned forward, eyes darting left and right before she whispered, "Did you know the school is built on an ancient eldritch summoning site? The principal? Not human."
Verena sighed. "I’m going to pretend I didn’t hear that. Next."
The third interviewee, Gregor, was muscular and intimidating. He sat down, crossed his arms, and scowled.
"What do you think qualifies you for this position?" Verena asked.
"I am very good at punching."
"...Anything else?"
Gregor thought for a moment. "I can also threaten people into cooperating."
Beatrice hummed. "You know, that could be useful."
"We’re not running a dictatorship. Next."
By the end of the day, Verena collapsed onto a bench, staring blankly at the sky. "I give up. We’re doomed. The Eclipsor LGU is going to be filled with freaks, and I’m going to die in a room full of lizard truthers."
Beatrice sat beside her, flipping through her notes. "We could still go with Gregor."
"NO."
When she arrived at her dorm, Sera flashed her a grin and a quick, "Bye bye! I’m heading out for dinner!" Well, good for her. At least someone had their life together today.
[System Notification]
[Affection Event!]
[Event Name: "The Seduced Becomes A Seducer!"]
[Target: Evelyn Ashbourne]
[Description: After reading your layout that you’ve given to her, she has decided to read one of the notes in particular which was the Art of Seduction. She wishes to try it out on you.]
Verena sighed dramatically. "Oh... Oh God."
There was a knock on her door.
And there she was.
The girl herself, standing nervously at Verena’s door, looking like a deer caught in headlights.
Except this deer was holding a the paper titled The Art of Seduction like it was her personal battle manual.
Evelyn cleared her throat, cheeks pink, her hands fidgeting. "So, um, I decided to read... a certain note... and, well... Can I try applying what I learned on you?"
"Apply what on me??"
Evelyn’s eyes darted around before finally meeting hers.
Then, taking a tiny step forward, hesitant but determined - she straightened her back and gave her best attempt at confidence.
"W-Well, you gave me those notes... and they were actually insightful," she mumbled, voice barely above a whisper. "S-So I thought... I could practice it with you...."
Before Verena could respond, Evelyn reached out and lightly touched her arm, her fingers brushing against the fabric of her sleeve like she was testing the waters.
"What are you doing?" Verena asked, amused.
"It said that to seduce, physical contact must be made."
Well, yes.
But certainly not like this.
Evelyn looked as if she was on the verge of passing out.
Still, Verena had to give her credit for bravery. "Go on..."
Encouraged, Evelyn locked eyes with her.
She stood straighter, trying her best to radiate confidence even though her hands were trembling as if she was about to defuse a bomb.
Then, she leaned in just a little closer, making sure their gazes were locked in the most intense, dramatic eye contact she could manage.
Verena raised a brow. "What is it this time?"
"Eye contact is important!" Evelyn declared, as if she were reciting a sacred text.
One second. Two seconds. Three—
"A-Ah! I can’t!" Evelyn suddenly broke away, covering her face.
Verena let out a chuckle. "It’s okay! I feel really seduced right now..."
Evelyn pouted. "You’re just laughing at me..."
She looked so genuinely disheartened that Verena was about to reassure her.
But then, in a completely unexpected move, Evelyn took a bold step forward, and before Verena could even blink,
She was pushed back.
Pinned to the floor.
Verena’s brain stalled. Her eyes widened in shock.
Wait... what?! The doormat? She’s pinning me down?!
Evelyn hovered above her, cheeks flushed with both embarrassment and something else. Something dangerous.
A sulky determination.
Verena, still reeling from this sudden role reversal, could only stare.
The girl who had always been so submissive, the one she had been trying so hard to help, was now hovering over her, holding her down like a... like a predator?
"Well," Verena finally managed, voice playful but slightly breathless from the surprise, "I’ll give you an A for effort... but we’re going to need a bit more practice, don’t you think?"
Evelyn’s face turned even redder. Her posture stiffened as realization dawned on her. "Oh my god... I—I’m so sorry! I didn’t mean to—"
Verena grinned up at her, clearly enjoying the chaos. "No, no. It’s fine. Just... maybe let’s start with the basics next time."
That should’ve been the end of it.
But instead of backing off, Evelyn only sulked harder.
Verena could see it now.
This wasn’t just a silly attempt anymore. Evelyn wanted to succeed.
She wanted to do this. She wanted to be able to seduce.
That realization should have been cute.
Instead, Evelyn suddenly leaned down and opened her mouth.
And sank her teeth into Verena’s neck.
O-Ow! That hurts!
Verena flinched, completely helpless beneath her.
She could feel the bite deep in her skin, her pulse hammering against Evelyn’s lips.
When the girl finally pulled away, there was a faint trace of blood on her mouth.
This girl was no sheep.
She was a wolf in disguise.
