Chapter 46: Makeup

She looked absolutely drained, a subtle but noticeable hint of dark circles under her eyes.

Raphael had gone too hard on the training the night before, especially after she jokingly suggested that he’d be a lot less of a dick if his manhood got chopped off.

To her surprise, he hadn’t taken it lightly.

She’d never seen someone so focused on proving they could still be a jerk with one less appendage.

Honestly, she wasn’t wrong, though.

Raphael was more of a knight than a family man.

Right now, it was the first period of class, and she was about to pass out in her seat.

"Why do you look so exhausted?" Beatrice asked.

Verena flashed a tired grin, grateful for the distraction. "Had to look after a wild boar."

"A wild boar entered the campus?!"

Verena couldn’t help but stifle a laugh.

It was a complete lie, of course, but it was much easier to say she’d fought off a wild boar than to admit she’d been battling with Raphael all night.

The first period ended, and before anyone could ask too many questions, the two of them quickly made their way to the bathroom.

It was a sanctuary for women to share whispered secrets and make plans,

At least, that’s what the men always said, since they took so long.

"Why did you want to come here?"

Beatrice hesitated for a moment, then pulled out a small makeup kit. "Um, you see... I have makeup."

"Since when did you have makeup?"

Beatrice’s cheeks flushed bright red, her fingers fumbling with the kit.

"N-Nothing..." she stammered, clearly embarrassed. Then, trying to recover, she added with a playful smile, "But anyway, I can do your makeup. It’ll be fun! You’re already beautiful, of course!"

Verena couldn’t help but chuckle, amused by Beatrice’s sudden shyness.

"Mmmm, I don’t mind," she said, her voice smooth and relaxed. It was inevitable, after all.

Beatrice beamed, her hands shaking slightly as she opened the case, revealing a set of brushes, lip glosses, and eyeshadows.

She took a deep breath, clearly more excited than she let on.

She had always had a natural talent for things like this.

In the novel, she was always the one becoming a makeup guru, transforming her already appearance into something even more mesmerizing.

Beatrice’s hands were delicate as she moved closer, carefully positioning Verena in front of the mirror.

"Okay," she began, setting the items in front of her. "I’m going to start with your eyes. Don’t worry, I promise I’ll be gentle."

She carefully applied a light foundation to Verena’s skin, her fingers grazing her cheek with gentle precision.

"You’re very steady," Verena remarked, watching Beatrice’s focused movements.

"I... I like doing this," Beatrice replied, her voice barely above a whisper.

She brushed a thin layer of blush across Verena’s cheekbones, her gaze flickering up, catching Verena’s eyes for a brief moment.

There was something tender in the way she looked at her that was so different from the usual girl Verena had known.

Beatrice stepped closer, gently lifting Verena’s chin with one hand.

The softness of Beatrice’s touch felt different from the usual playful jabs or casual chatter.

It was deliberate.

Carefully, Beatrice applied the lipstick to Verena’s lips, the coolness of the lipstick tube contrasting with the warmth of their proximity.

Verena’s breath caught as Beatrice’s fingers brushed against her skin, her face dangerously close.

For a split second, everything seemed to slow.

The world outside the bathroom faded into a blur.

Verena found herself caught in the rhythm of Beatrice’s gentle movements, hypnotized by the soft motion of the lipstick gliding on her lips.

It felt almost like... a kiss?

As Beatrice finished, she pulled back slightly, but Verena wasn’t done. A mischievous spark twinkled in her eyes. "I want to try."

Beatrice blinked in surprise. "H-Huh?"

Verena picked up the same lipstick, now intrigued by the dark red hue that matched Beatrice’s own lips.

With a playful smile, she leaned in closer, just as Beatrice had done for her, and carefully applied the lipstick to Beatrice’s lips.

"Well, it seems like we’re both wearing the same shade now," Verena said, a teasing smile tugging at her lips.

Beatrice, now fully flushed, looked away, trying to regain her composure. "I-I..."

To Verena, it probably wasn’t that big of a deal.

Just some playful makeup fun, right?

But for Beatrice, it was likely something more.

An indirect kiss.

She could still feel the softness of Verena’s lips lingering in the lipstick, the faint traces of the saliva’s freshness.

It was almost like she’d tasted her, even though nothing more than a touch had happened.

Beatrice slapped her own face, trying to shake off the dizzying thoughts.

"W-What are you thinking about, self?" she muttered under her breath, desperately trying to convince herself that it was just a harmless, friendly gesture.

It had to be, right?

But after the bathroom incident, things were... different.

Beatrice was acting so awkward around her, avoiding eye contact, shifting nervously whenever Verena spoke.

Verena couldn’t quite figure it out.

What was going on?

Was she imagining it?

She glanced at Beatrice, who was fidgeting as they walked outside, and felt an unsettling tightness in her chest.

Could it be that Beatrice had misunderstood? Surely not.

It was just makeup, for God’s sake!

They’d been so casual about it.

Verena frowned, trying to make sense of it all.

Why was Beatrice acting like this?

"Hey."

A voice called out from the crowd.

She turned, only to be met with a familiar sight.

Clean-cut blond hair, piercing red eyes. Raphael.

What the hell is he doing here?

Instinctively, she tried to slip away with Beatrice, but it was too late.

He had already spotted them.

His gaze locked onto her like a predator zeroing in on its prey, and with that confident stride of his, he began making his way toward them.

She clicked her tongue.

The last thing she needed was people getting the wrong idea.

Sighing, she stepped forward to meet him halfway, cutting him off before he could get too close.

Her expression hardened as she pressed a hand against his chest, shoving him back just slightly.

"What are you doing here?"
