Chapter 300: Chapter 211: The Liu Family’s Ancestral Patriarch! [One More!]_2
The Liu Family patriarch, gazing at the fishing rod in his hands, fixed his eyes on the river’s surface and said, "The younger generation fails to continue, not one can take up my responsibilities. Should I die, the Liu Family will surely fall and be devoured by all sides..."
He turned his head and said, "The choice I make today does no more than to hasten the Liu Family’s collapse. But what it brings in exchange is a much brighter hope!"
Should the patriarch meet his demise, the future of the Liu Family is unpredictable.
Yet this perilous venture, if the patriarch is hopeful to advance from Qi Refinement to God Transformation, then the Liu Family will witness an unprecedented golden age!
After tonight, either total ruin or becoming High Willow City’s foremost clan awaits!
"Go to Residual Prison Mansion. If I am defeated, at least a wisp of life can be preserved," he said calmly.
The Liu Family patriarch said indifferently, "As for the other clan members, pay them no mind, they have their own paths."
"Understood."
The head of the Liu Family bowed respectfully and then withdrew the patriarch’s Token from his chest, placing it beside him.
Next, he took out a bloodstained pouch from within his garment and said softly, "From the inheritance of the Liu Family, all six sacred relics are here."
"Is this the blood of our Liu Family’s Great Elder?"
The Liu Family patriarch sighed and looked at the pouch, saying, "When disaster strikes, each flies on his own, deluded dreams of escaping with treasures and seeking a new life, such shortsightedness. You did well to kill them..."
"Since Wu Chang’s return, the movements of the Observatory have been predictable, indicating today’s upheaval, unsettling the hearts of men," lamented the head of the Liu Family.
"Turn a blind eye, yes, but not when it comes to these six sacred relics, in matters of great importance, I could not let it slide," he said with a sigh.
Having spoken, the head of the Liu Family bowed deeply and implored, "May the patriarch be safe and ascend to divinity this night!"
"Go, the Lord of Residual Prison Mansion holds some rosy regard for me and is willing to shelter your direct line. Henceforth, do well under his service," the patriarch advised in a calm voice.
"Without my support, do not harbor any grand ambitions in the future, and do not end this line’s descendants," the Liu Family patriarch said as he took the Token into his chest, continuing, "If I ascend, all of you may return, towering above all powers within High Willow City. The position of the next Great City Guard should be yours."
The lord of the Liu Family knelt thrice and kowtowed nine times before rising, mounting a fine horse, kindling the Bright Night Divine Lamp, and setting off upstream along the great river.
Silence then fell upon the place.
Moments later, the voice of the Liu Family patriarch was heard.
"Why are you the only one here?"
"Wu Chang is still on his way. Probably because we’re both of the Human Clan, he can’t help but feel the burden and thus is cutting down evil on his journey, probably to settle his state of mind," said a figure that appeared on the opposite bank, his left sleeve billowing empty in the wind.
The man was none other than the Supreme Commander of the Observatory, his face bearing a smile.
Standing across the bank, it was as if old friends were catching up.
"I heard that youngster is as eager to kill as he is to breathe. Could it be that even killing affects his state of mind?" the Liu Family patriarch asked coolly.
"He has always been kind-hearted. Killing is a reluctant move for him. Who asked your Liu Family to take so many lives?" The Commander sighed.
"Do you believe that yourself?" the Liu Family patriarch scoffed.
"Whether I believe it or not doesn’t matter. Whether you believe it doesn’t matter either. What matters is that if the people believe it, that’s enough," the Commander replied.
"Using me as a sacrificial pawn to build momentum for this youngster," the Liu Family patriarch slowly said. "If today I refine my Qi into divinity, then all of you are sacrificial pawns!"
"We shall see if the old gentleman has the skill," said the Commander, unsheathing his sword, his gaze going cold.
"At your peak, you could battle me for a round," the Liu Family patriarch spoke out. "With one arm gone, harboring greater hidden troubles, you are far from a match for me now."
"I am not here to kill you, nor am I planning to defeat you," the Commander raised his sword slightly and spoke gently. "He is still young, not long into the Qi Refining Realm. Even if you win against him, it won’t be a worthy victory... I am here tonight to first drain some of your True Qi."
"You think by exhausting part of my True Qi, that will ensure his victory?" The Liu Family patriarch reached into his chest, caressing the patriarch’s Token.
"I don’t know," the Commander said with a smile. "But if I, a senior and a junior of the Observatory, come to fight one after another and in the end still lose, then it must be your fated day to survive."
"But you know I am a cautious person,"
the Liu Family elder spoke evenly, "This young man’s reputation is soaring, and he foolishly thinks to destroy the Liu Family. I must kill him, and there will be no oversights tonight."
He sighed and said, "The Liu Family has built cities for generations, and I’ve fought against Tribulation Ash all my life. Now in my old age, I can only collude with Tribulation Ash to protect myself, which is quite laughable."
"How can the elder say such a thing?"
Just then, two people approached from not far away, laughing as they spoke, "When the Human Clan builds cities, there’s bound to be despicable infighting for power and influence, nauseating to witness. High Willow City should have been destroyed long ago... It’s not too late for a realization now!"
"Xu Gou of the Twelve Phases of Tribulation Ash, I heard you emerged from the ancient ruins. Although you failed to acquire the town object, you were grudgingly initiated into the Qi Refining Realm after the baptism of the sun and moon rising together; have you come to die?"
The Commander looked up and said, "The Evil Spirit you serve also received the baptism of the sun and moon rising together, but if we really tally it up, it’s still not enough to survive a single stroke of my blade..."
"Of course, even though the Great Elder broke one of the Commander’s arms, exacerbating his hidden troubles and leaving him as good as dead, a dying camel is still bigger than a horse."
The man wearing the dog-faced mask slightly turned his body and said, "Let me introduce someone from the Residual Prison Mansion..."
The newcomer appeared to be around fifty, simple and honest in appearance, with a hint of restraint on his face.
"I come from the Residual Prison Mansion, a member of the Tribulation Ash, one of the Four Seasons Officials, known as Autumn Official."
The man’s dark face revealed a rather shy smile, "The six lords of Qifeng Prefecture’s Tribulation Ash are all acquainted with me, and the Great Lord has shown me grace... So I hope the Commander can let me take his head, to pay my respects to the Great Lord."
"Let’s choose a different place to fight."
The Liu Family elder looked up slightly towards the river and said, "If the Great River Dragon Pillar is damaged during the fight, it wouldn’t be good... You wouldn’t want to see that, right, Commander?"
"No matter."
The Commander said indifferently, "What do you two think?"
The Autumn Official of Tribulation Ash nodded and said, "A visitor from afar is a guest, and the guest should follow the host’s convenience... I will take the Commander’s head with me, but as for where his body is buried, you can decide."
The man with the Xu Gou mask looked over at the Liu Family elder and said, "I wish the elder ascendance to godhood and success in slaying the number one arrogant of Qifeng Prefecture. The Sect Hierarch has other rewards."
As the voice faded, three figures on the opposite bank moved swiftly away.
On both sides of the river, only the raging waters could be heard, surging and resonating.
After a moment, a white horse was seen galloping from the direction of High Willow City.
The horse was covered in scale armor, and under the moonlight, it shimmered with a silvery glow.
The rider, dressed in a Golden Patterned Black Robe from the Observatory, held a long blade and had an icy countenance.
"You have arrived?"
The Liu Family elder turned his head and said, "Lately, you’ve gained quite a reputation. High Willow City having such a promising new star is truly admirable. To think, I’ve heard so much about you, yet tonight is our first encounter, isn’t it?"
"Since my youth, I’ve heard of the ancestors of the six great families who are over a hundred years old and have made distinguished contributions, being the pioneers of city construction,"
Lin Yan spoke calmly, "I have known of your reputation for over a decade, living under the rules set by the inner city’s upper class. Sometimes, people are like ants, easily crushed underfoot... Just like those refugees."
Dismounting his horse, he lifted his blade and said, "If it weren’t for your deserving death, we wouldn’t have had to meet."
"Youth is wonderful with high spirits and lofty aspirations; I was once the same,"
sighed the Liu Family elder, "But it’s a pity I grew old."
At the sound of his voice, he gestured with his hand and then said, "The Commander has led away two high-ranking members of Tribulation Ash for you, but those I’ve invited here aren’t limited to Tribulation Ash."
"If you depend solely on one blade, rash and impulsive, then you can’t even think about killing me,
let alone standing in front of me."
As his voice fell, cavalry appeared upstream, descending along the river.
Clad in heavy armor, wielding long spears, and with blades at their waists, they exuded an extreme chill.
