I Received System to Become Dragonborn
Chapter 906 - 906: Still Holding Back

The god's glowing eyes flickered for a moment, just enough for Erend to see it. The green light in them stuttered—not dimmed or faded, but visibly shaken. It was barely a breath but in a being like Thar'Zul-Vekar, such a shift spoke volumes.

Erend couldn't read the god's mind and he sure that no one could, but he felt it in the air that his words had struck something. A memory maybe, a doubt, a fracture in whatever unyielding fury the god held.

Here's a revised version of that passage with improved clarity, flow, and tone while keeping your intent intact:

The truth was, Erend didn't know much about the mind of this ancient god. But one thing was clear—it wasn't stable. Whatever Thar'Zul-Vekar had become, their thoughts were twisted by time, isolation, and rage. That made them unpredictable and dangerous.

If Erend wanted answers, he had to ask carefully—threading his words between the god's wrath and his own survival. It was a delicate balance, especially while enduring a battle of this scale. Even in Dragon form, it was exhausting.

He sighed, steam hissing from his nostrils. There was no other way. If this was what it took, then he'd keep trying until he got through.

"I'm not the Dragon that betrayed you," Erend said evenly, his deep voice rumbling through the sky. The image of a towering Fire Dragon calmly speaking in human language would have stunned anyone from the otherr world—maybe even made them faint.

Thar'Zul-Vekar's eyes flickered again, more violently this time.

The vines coiled around their body began to twitch erratically as a reflection of their storming thoughts.

"You… are Fire Dragon," the god muttered.

"Yes. But I'm not the same as… whoever it was. I gained this power only a few years ago. I wasn't born a Dragon," Erend replied. He offered a sliver of truth that was enough, he hoped, to slow the god's fury.

For a few moments, Thar'Zul-Vekar's expression cracked. A flicker of confusion crossed their face.

Erend felt that he was getting through.

But then it vanished.

The god's features hardened again and become cruel and unforgiving again.

"It doesn't matter," they said coldly, the green glow in their eyes flaring brighter than ever.

Erend exhaled sharply, steam pouring from his snout.

"Alright," he growled. "Maybe I need to beat a little clarity into you first."

With a snap of his wings, he launched forward again, trailing fire and fury as he surged back into the storm.

Thar'Zul-Vekar also immediately moved.

The moment Erend surged forward, the god exploded into motion as well.

The vines that had danced around their limbs now whipped outward with lethal precision. Dozens of them, then hundreds, each moving like a serpent with a mind of its own to attack Erend.

Erend barely dodged the first wave. He dipped low, fire burning from his wings as he rolled through the sky, but it was already too late to recover fully.

A vine lashed across his flank. Another slammed into his wing joint, jolting his flight.

Then five more shot from above, forcing him to twist hard mid-air. His momentum broke and for a split second, he faltered.

That was all Thar'Zul-Vekar needed.

"RAAGHH!" Erend roared, fire exploding from his jaws in reflex but the god moved with inhuman speed.

They twisted through the blaze and closed the distance, their hand outstretched. Vines spiraled around it like a spear.

The strike landed square in Erend's chest.

A shockwave erupted midair as Erend was launched backward, a trail of flame and blood spinning in his wake.

He barely caught himself with his wings, but he could feel the damage. His scales had cracked, his insides burned from the force behind the attack.

Thar'Zul-Vekar pursued him without hesitation. They flew with green light flaring around them, the air warping with his power.

Vines twisted into blades, spears, and tendrils of Magic with the purpose of destruction.

Each attack they threw seemed fueled not only by power, but by his memory. By pain, betrayal, and the hunger for vengeance.

Erend countered when he could, swiping through vines with molten claws, blasting through projectiles with inferno breath.

He spiraled, dodged, weaved, even slammed into the god head-on but the blows didn't slow them.

Thar'Zul-Vekar had shed restraint. They were no longer testing him. They were trying to truly kill him.

And slowly, Erend could feel it working.

His breath grew heavy. His wings ached. The sky spun with color and smoke, and above it all, the god keep coming at him wrapped in vines and rage.

---

Meanwhile, Eccar crushed just another Ent's head beneath his stone-clad talons. Earth Magic burst from his limbs as he twisted midair and flung a spear of crystal through another's throat.

The cursed tree-undead let out a dying groan before collapsing into splinters and dark sap.

Only five remained now from the original twenty. They were no match for him in this full Dragon form.

But his golden eyes flicked upward.

High above, in the smoke-streaked sky, he saw that Erend being driven back by the god.

Blows rained down on him from the furious god, vines slashing and lashing with terrifying forces.

Erend was holding on but he was being pushed. And more importantly, Eccar could tell he was holding back. For answers, for clarity. For a god that might never listen to what he asked right now.

Eccar narrowed his eyes. "We're going to die before any of that matters," he thought, grinding his jaw.

Then, he send voice through their shared bond.

"Erend. Stop holding back. I know that you you're your answers but you're not getting any if you're dead. Keep it together or that god will rip your wings off before you can ask another damn question!"

There was a pause in the flames above.

Then, Erend's voice replied, low and sheepish.

"…You're right."

A heartbeat passed then the sky exploded.

A shockwave of fire burst outward from Erend's position like a second sun igniting midair. The flames expanded violently, molten light washing over the battlefield.

Thar'Zul-Vekar flinched, shielding their form with layers of tangled vines.

Erend surged forward, fire trailing behind him like the tail of a comet. His claws glowed white-hot. His eyes burned.
