I Received System to Become Dragonborn
Chapter 899 - 899: Descent

Eccar looked at Erend for a few seconds in silence, the only sound between them was the crackling hiss of tendrils and the distorted whispers of foreign Magic pressing at their minds. The air stank of burning stone and poisoned Magic energy. But what struck Eccar more was the glimmer in Erend's eyes. That familiar dangerous light.

It was the light of bloodlust, of the Rage.

Eccar saw it and knew the same fire burned in his own gaze.

"What about the Rage?" he asked quietly, not accusing—just reminding.

Erend blinked slowly, as if only now realizing the weight of what they were about to do. He exhaled, gaze drifting back to the swirling rift.

"At this point… I don't think there's any use in worrying about it," he said, though even he didn't sound convinced. "Honestly… we might need it. To beat that god, we might need to do something extra."

Eccar didn't like that answer. Neither did Erend. But the both of them knew—dwelling on it would only weaken their resolve.

Eccar sighed. "Right. Now, there's nothing we can do about it anyway. And I actually like that idea. If we go berserk, let it be there on their ground."

Erend nodded with his jaw tight. "Just don't let the Rage take us completely. We still need to be in control."

"Of course," Eccar said, though part of him knew control might be the first thing to go.

Without another word, the two Dragonborns stepped to the edge of the rift.

Their wings spread wide, then wrapped around their bodies as they summoned their full Magic—fire, and earth woven together in a radiant storm. Then they dove into the rift.

The instant they crossed the threshold, the temple chamber behind them shattered.

An explosion of raw Magic ripped through the chamber, crumbling what remained of the temple's walls and blowing open the dome.

The shockwave hurled debris into the sky. Tendrils lashed wildly, shrieking in unnatural agony, flailing for a few desperate seconds before going still. But then they recoiling as if dragged screaming back into the rift after their prey.

And then, the rift changed.

Where once it pulsed like a bleeding wound now it shrank, become calmer and narrowed like the pupil of an eye. It become a window into the other side. The raw Magic leaking through slowed to a trickle. But the view it offered was clear.

It shows aa glimpse of the forgotten god's domain.

----

Erend and Eccar fell.

It was like plunging into a bottomless well—no wind, no light, just a descent into something vast and cold.

The Magic here clung to their skin like oil. It all feels slippery and repulsive to them. It wasn't made to touch anything beyond these strange world. It hated their bodies, their presence, and their very existence. And they hated it in return.

Images flickered in the dark while they were flying down. Brief burning visions caught in their minds about the world they were in.

They saw a crumbled city of stone eaten by vines that pulsed with veins of black light. A chained beast, faceless and breathing smoke into a sky torn by fire.

A battlefield with bones buried so deep they made the hills. A single tower in the distance made of bones and vines, climbing endlessly upward into a red storm.

And then and impact happened.

They burst from the rift like stars falling from a dead sky. The sky here was sickly red and motionless like a wound in the air that had never closed.

The land beneath them looks like ash—dry, lifeless, and cracked with veins of green-black glow that pulsed like infected blood vessels beneath the surface of the land.

They landed in the middle of the plain. All around them, grey creatures began to stir. Hundreds of them encircling Erend and Eccar.

They were in different shapes—some like wolves made of smoke, others like centipedes with limbs that moved sideways, some with no eyes, some with too many eyes. All of them looked at the newcomers falling from the sky with hunger that emanated in the air.

And the moment Erend and Eccar rose from the crater of their landing, the swarm began to move.

The Dragonborns stood back-to-back. Erend's scales burned red and black. Eccar's scales of stone glistened with pulsing Magic as well.

"This is it," Erend muttered.

"Let's say our greetings first," Eccar replied with a wild grin.

Then the first creature lunged—and the battlefield erupted into war.

All around them, the grey creatures surged. Not in ones or twos but by the dozens at once.

They moved like a tide crashing forward in a storm of limbs, fangs, and twisted forms. Their bodies looked as though they were carved from fog and flesh, each misshapen in a different way—some slithered on boneless tendrils, others galloped like beasts with splintered hooves, and some stood tall like malformed humans with mouths where eyes should be.

Their skin was a patchwork of sinew and shadow, and their movements filled with the growing roar of hatred building in the space around them.

Erend snarled. His blood boiled with fire, his veins lit with Magic energy. He let out a furious cry that echoed across the ashen plain and then he charged.

A dozen creatures leapt at him.

Flames erupted from his arms as he swung a burning arc with both fists, searing through two beasts mid-air.

The fire exploded, sending three more creatures flying in pieces. Another lunged close. Erend met it with a knee to the jaw, then he spun and his elbow cracking through another skull with a crunch.

Eccar roared beside him and slam his fists into the cracked ground. A burst of earth tore upward in jagged spikes, skewering half a dozen of the advancing creatures.

One of them tried to leap past the rock but Eccar grabbed it mid-flight and slammed it into the ground with terrifying force, then punched straight through its chest.

Another pounced from behind, but he spun with a backhand of claws and breaking its jaw and flinging it away.

They moved like blazing fire and crashing earth. Their scales shimmered with fury and raw Magic as they fought back to back.
