I really didn’t want to lead Ultra Star astray
Chapter 10 - Got Stronger Again?

Chapter 10: Got Stronger Again?

Zero was thrilled. It had been ages since he’d faced an opponent like this. The Land of Light wasn’t short of warriors stronger than him—like Seven Ultraman, whose strength surpassed his own. He saw Seven often, but every time he tried to challenge him, Seven brushed him off.

This frustrated Zero to no end. It felt like Seven was deliberately targeting him. Taro had personally trained Mebius, so was he somehow less than Mebius? Zero swore he’d one day make Seven call him “Daddy”! Yep, make Seven call him Daddy.

Zero stepped forward again, unleashing a flurry of rapid punches at Mu Yang. Mu Yang blocked them all, parrying every attack with precision.

Their exchange was lightning-fast, each blow landing solidly. In moments, they’d traded dozens of moves, neither daring to let their guard down, as a single misstep could lead to defeat.

The younger Ultramans watching were stunned. Even those sparring nearby rushed over. Zero’s reputation was huge around here—a little tyrant, basically. Now, an Ultraman could match him? How could they not pay attention?

Even the big shots of the Land of Light, watching from afar, were focused on Zero and Mu Yang’s fight.

“Zero’s impressive! He’s already strong enough to join the Space Garrison,” the Father of Ultra said sincerely, glancing subtly at Seven. “If he’d had your guidance from the start, he might’ve reached the level of the Ultra Brothers by now.”

“No, Zero’s fine as he is. If people knew he was my son, it’d put him in danger. I’ve killed too many cosmic beings and monsters,” Seven said, looking at his hands.

“But isn’t Taro our son too?” the Mother of Ultra said helplessly. Though her five sons were adopted, Seven was clearly closer, being her sister’s child.

You’ve killed fewer monsters and cosmic beings than the Father of Ultra, haven’t you? Taro grew up just fine, didn’t he?

Seven shook his head. “Let him stay this way. I believe he’ll find his own friends and forge his own path, not just follow mine.”

Seeing Seven’s resolve, the other Ultramans shook their heads helplessly. They knew Seven quietly watched over Zero, even if Zero didn’t realise it.

“This fight’s about done!” Zoffy said after a moment’s silence.

“Yes, if beam techniques were allowed, Zero would have the edge. But in pure physical combat, Mu Yang’s the standout fighting genius!” the Father of Ultra said earnestly. “If he had my level of energy and strength, even I might not be his match!”

For the current top warrior of the Land of Light to say this showed just how highly he regarded Mu Yang.

Zoffy and the others didn’t disagree. Mu Yang’s displayed strength was undeniable. In terms of combat skills, fewer than twenty in the Land of Light could surpass him—and this was with Mu Yang being an Ultraman for only a short time, his energy and strength still untapped.

If they hadn’t seen it themselves, they wouldn’t believe it.

“You’re really strong!” Zero said, wiping his nose in frustration after being pushed back a few steps by Mu Yang.

“No, if you used beam techniques, I’d have lost,” Mu Yang said sincerely.

“Hmph, this Young Master said no beam techniques, so no beam techniques!” Zero waved dismissively. “But now, it’s time to settle this!”

“Go ahead!” Mu Yang struck a signature “Ip Man” pose, leaving the other Ultramans baffled. That forward-step, low-stance move looked cool, sure, but was it useful? Cosmic Boxing didn’t have a starting pose like that, did it?

Zero didn’t dare slack off. He lunged forward in a horse stance, throwing a left hook at Mu Yang’s face. But Mu Yang sprang up like a coiled spring, punching at a speed Zero couldn’t react to, while blocking Zero’s hook with his arm.

Boom! Under Zero’s incredulous gaze, he was sent flying by the punch. “How’s that possible? Your strength and speed increased!”

He sat dumbfounded on the ground, not getting up. He’d lost!

“Well, thanks to you!” Mu Yang said with a light chuckle. To beat Zero, he’d specifically raised his template to 21%.

His shock points before the fight were enough for 21%, and now, with so many Ultramans feeding him points, they kept flowing in.

Just that 1% template boost felt like a 10% increase in strength to Zero. Caught off guard by Mu Yang’s previous power level, he was knocked back.

(1% template boost for a 10% strength increase isn’t unscientific, right? Even a fivefold boost wouldn’t make the protagonist a match for the King of Ultra, would it?)

Footnotes:

叫爸爸 (jiào bàba): Literally “call Daddy,” a colloquial phrase in Chinese meaning to dominate or humiliate someone in a challenge, often used playfully to assert superiority. Zero’s ambition to make Seven call him “Daddy” reflects his competitive, cheeky personality.
