Chapter 61: Chapter 57 Annoyance

Qingran and Xie Ying’an were nestled in the study reading books.

Mr. Li rarely used the study. The ones who actually used it were mostly Li Qing Mo and Qingran, and most of the books in there were bought by Li Qing Mo. Qingran would also occasionally buy a few just for show, mainly because she thought it looked bad empty.

She seldom read the books she bought, and Li Qing Mo even less; he scarcely had time not spent on studying, and what little he had was hardly enough for gaming.

Xie Ying’an casually picked up a book from the shelf and sat down at the desk next to Qingran, "I heard from your brother that you went to the library this morning?"

"Yeah." Qingran was still searching the shelves for the book she had seen at the library.

Apart from the Four Great Classical Novels, most books on the shelf were travel writings of some sort, such as "The World I Live In", "Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Sea", "Unsolved Mysteries of the World", all of which Qingran had read in middle school.

The main thing was, she had been so engrossed in "The Catcher in the Rye" at noon today, that if not for caring about Ji Yanchen’s feelings, she reckoned she could have holed up in the library for the whole day.

Unable to find the book she wanted, Qingran felt a bit dismayed and had to walk outside to grab the homework she needed to do.

By the time she returned to the study, Xie Ying’an had already put down his book and was looking at his cellphone.

It was gloomy outside, and the light in the room had darkened considerably. Qingran turned on the study light and sat down opposite Xie Ying’an.

Xie Ying’an was still staring at his phone screen, and when Qingran sat down, she glimpsed him looking at a picture from the corner of her eye.

Qingran was supposed to do a Chinese language test paper this time. She had been fixated on improving her weaknesses in physics, chemistry, and biology, so much so that she had even neglected her once favorite subject, Chinese.

When Qingran finished one side of the test paper and looked up unintentionally, Xie Ying’an was no longer looking at his phone, but seemed to be staring at her, or perhaps through her to an indistinct point in the distance.

His obsidian-like eyes were dark and lusterless.

Tsk, you can tell at a glance that he’s in a bad mood.

Qingran thought to herself, luckily Xie Ying’an lived with his grandfather for a few years. If it were a few years ago, his irritability would have shown directly on his face. Now it was impossible to discern his emotions just by looking at his expression.

Just as Qingran was about to ask what was wrong,

Xie Ying’an took the initiative to speak, his dark eyes suddenly coming alive, staring straight at Qingran, "Li Qingran, who did you go to the library with at noon today?"

Qingran was startled. What’s with Xie Ying’an’s accusatory tone?

Besides, how did he know that she had gone to the library with someone today? Had Song Shize, who couldn’t keep his word, snitched on her?

Qingran didn’t want to lie, but she also didn’t want to tell Xie Ying’an the truth, fearing that he would turn around and tell Li Qing Mo.

She forced a rigid smile, "Why are you suddenly asking this?"

Xie Ying’an’s expression instantly turned colder, his voice carrying a hint of mockery, "It was Ji Yanchen, wasn’t it?"

Though the words were phrased as a question, they carried an undertone of certainty.

Qingran didn’t understand why Xie Ying’an disliked Ji Yanchen so much. After all, they had all grown up together in the same courtyard.

Ji Yanchen might not talk much and seemed rather aloof, but at heart, he’s not a bad person. Getting along with him didn’t require painstaking efforts to guess his thoughts, making the relationship quite relaxed.

"Yes." Qingran nodded, resigning herself to whatever came, "I had an appointment with God Ji to study together today."

"An appointment with God Ji?" Xie Ying’an wasn’t even sneering now; his expression turned serious as he looked at Qingran, "Li Qingran, you said you wouldn’t date at an early age!"

Qingran furrowed her brows in retort, "I’m not dating someone, my interactions with God Ji are just between classmates!"

Going to the library to study, how does that end up being linked to early romance? Besides, even if she did have intentions to date God Ji, he wouldn’t agree to it.

Xie Ying’an clearly didn’t want to talk more. He pulled out his chair, picked up the cell phone from the desk, and headed out.

Why did he suddenly get angry just like that?

Li Qingran was completely baffled.

Xie Ying’an paused at the doorway. He didn’t turn around, just left a faint remark, "I won’t be at school for a week starting tomorrow."

Before Li Qingran could react, he closed the door and disappeared outside.

After a while, Liu Luoxi pushed the door slightly open and peeked in, secretly observing Li Qingran’s expression.

Li Qingran was still trying to guess if Xie Ying’an suddenly got his period or something, as his mood changed inexplicably.

Turning her head, she saw Liu Luoxi push the door open a crack, just enough to show her head, which looked somewhat amusing.

It seemed the homework wouldn’t get done anytime soon. Li Qingran put down her pen and walked over to the door to ask Liu Luoxi, "Cousin, why aren’t you coming in?"

Liu Luoxi had a gossip-hungry look all over her face as she whispered, "Why did Xie Ying’an storm out?"

She and Li Qingmo had just greeted Xie Ying’an, but he ignored them completely and went straight outside.

Liu Luoxi, catching a strong whiff of gossip, instantly found her video game less appealing.

Li Qingran spread her hands: "I don’t know either, he just left out of the blue."

This was the first time Xie Ying’an had shown her a cold face. Li Qingran faintly felt she might have guessed the reason, but deep down, she resisted the thought—it couldn’t be possible. In the books, the male lead was hers through and through, both body and soul.

Liu Luoxi glanced at Li Qingran’s test paper, thinking this cousin of hers was really thick-skinned. She speculated, "Little cousin, could it be that you’ve been so focused on studying that you’ve neglected him?"

Li Qingran: "...Cousin, you make some sense."

Although she didn’t know where the sense was.

Feeling vindicated, Liu Luoxi grinned, showing two rows of white teeth, and reassuringly patted Li Qingran on the shoulder, "No worries, men are just like that, a bit short-tempered. Just coax them a bit. Isn’t your brother the same?"

Big cousin, what are you even talking about? Why are you looking at me with an ’I understand everything’ gaze?

Li Qingran remembered how Xie Ying’an had been looking at a picture just before, and a bad premonition welled up inside her.

She took out her phone. The first thing she did was open WeChat Moments. She scrolled past several classmates flaunting food, and sure enough, found the photo posted by Song Shize.

The picture was clearly taken stealthily by Song Shize. It was a bit blurry, but it showed Wen Siqi’s profile. To the right of Wen Siqi, one could see Ji Yanchen’s back and half of her own back.

Based on just this half-back shot in the photo, Xie Ying’an recognized her?

What kind of eyesight was that?

Song Shize even added a caption to the photo: When a dog thief meets another, it’s not the dog-eat-dog scenario one would expect.

Several replies from former classmates followed below, uniformly praising Song Shize for being awesome. He had not only won over the school beauty Luo Lan but even had the vocational high school beauty falling at his cowboy-boot-clad feet.

The replies must have been from boys. Li Qingran had them on WeChat but couldn’t remember who they were.

Damn it, that despicable Song Shize, willing to take a loss himself just to cause more damage to the enemy.
