Chapter 55 - 51 Wen Shiyi Falls into the Water

Chapter 55: Chapter 51 Wen Shiyi Falls into the Water

The plot unfolds without skipping a beat.

At noon, everyone gathered to eat the boxed lunches Old Wu had reserved in advance.

In the afternoon, around two o’clock, Wen Shiyi fell into the water just like in the plot, only this time Huang Qianyu also fell in with her.

The mountain water here wasn’t too deep, and Wen Shiyi knew how to swim, but when she fell, she used her strength incorrectly and got a cramp in her leg.

Huang Qianyu couldn’t swim at all, she clung to Wen Shiyi’s clothes and kept shouting, occasionally choking on some water.

By the time Sun Xin arrived with Old Wu and a group of students, Huang Qianyu was already so choked she couldn’t make a sound.

With two students in the water, Old Wu turned pale with fright, and with a splash, he jumped in to rescue them; seeing this, the boys who could swim also jumped in one after another to help.

Xie Ying’an and Song Shize stood behind Qingran, seeing so many people jumping in to rescue, neither of them intended to get into the water anymore.

Fortunately, both people were saved. Zhang Li and Chen Xiweng cried as they helped wring out Huang Qianyu’s dress; she spit out a few mouthfuls of water and was propped up, sitting on a rock.

Wen Shiyi was also drenched, sitting on another rock wringing out water from her clothes, she took off her shoes, her ankle was swollen significantly.

In the March weather, it was still quite chilly, a few boys took off their jackets to give to them.

Old Wu shook his wet hair, steadied his breathing a few times, and then turned to look at his good student Wen Shiyi, asking, "Wen Shiyi, can you explain what happened?"

Wen Shiyi’s eyes were red, her look one of suppressed tears, appearing extremely pitiable, "Teacher Wu, I was washing my hands by the water when Huang Qianyu pushed me, and I fell in."

Old Wu’s sharp gaze swept over to Huang Qianyu.

Huang Qianyu shuddered, not knowing if it was from the cold or fear.

She argued, "If I pushed you, you would have fallen into the water, but why did I fall in too?"

Zhang Li also spoke up for Huang Qianyu, "Teacher, I can testify that Qianyu didn’t push... Wen Shiyi."

With Zhang Li leading the way, Sun Xin and Chen Xiweng also stepped forward to vouch for Huang Qianyu.

Wen Shiyi obviously felt provoked, she argued with them, her neck stiff, "When I fell into the water, I grabbed onto Huang Qianyu’s hair, I didn’t yank off her braid, but I did pull off her hair band."

She opened her right hand and extended it in front of everyone; a red hair band lay in her palm, matching the color of Huang Qianyu’s red dress.

Huang Qianyu, already pale from the cold water, turned even paler, she stammered, "I, I, I really didn’t push the transfer student."

The students around clearly believed Wen Shiyi more, who had a physical proof; after all, Huang Qianyu was usually domineering and acted like a little brat.

Even a student as gentle as Li Qingran could be provoked by her, so picking on a new student seemed fitting for her style.

The looks they received from their classmates grew stranger by the moment.

Sun Xin wanted to defend herself but was cut off by a loud reprimand from Old Wu.

Old Wu’s face was so dark it looked like it could drip water, in front of so many students, he ultimately didn’t say much, he simply called a few of them away.

As Wen Shiyi left, her eyes red, she glanced in Qingran’s direction, it was unclear who else she was looking at.

The timely intervention from the class seven homeroom teacher began to smooth things over, but the students were clearly more interested in the gossip, their eyes followed where Old Wu and the others disappeared, reluctant to look away.

On the ride back, Qingran closed her eyes and thought about this segment of the plot.

Since the school trip was an important part, she still remembered some of it.

In the book, Wen Shiyi fell into the water, and it was Xie Ying’an who first discovered it; without a second thought, Xie Ying’an jumped in to save her.

In Wen Shiyi’s heart, this was the third time Xie Ying’an had saved her. It’s inevitable for a girl to dream of a hero.

She didn’t say much on the surface, but privately she had given her heart to Xie Ying’an, which spurred on a series of events that followed.

Now, Xie Ying’an didn’t jump into the water to save Wen Shiyi. Would the plot collapse because of this?

Qingran thought, side characters like her and Huang Qianyu probably didn’t have the power to change the plot. It seemed that only the main characters could alter the course of events.

The bus ride wasn’t too bumpy, but after some thought, Qingran felt a headache coming on, so she simply closed her eyes and pretended to doze off.

Behind her, Song Shize and Ruan Ruan were whispering together, but she didn’t catch a single word.

After a while, Qingran felt a pair of hands gently touch her head. The hands exerted a little force, and her head leaned to the side, with soft fabric touching her left cheek and the familiar scent of mint entering her nostrils.

Qingran: I think I understand why I woke up leaning on Xie Ying’an’s shoulder last time.

If Qingran were to wake up at this moment, it would undoubtedly be awkward for both of them.

Since she was already leaning on Xie Ying’an’s shoulder, she decided to keep feigning sleep.

But Song Shize was oblivious. He patted the back of the seat behind the two and said, "Hey, Li Qingran, how can you still be sleeping? Are you a pig?"

Ruan Ruan intervened from the side, "Song Shize, can’t you be quiet for a bit!?"

Qingran feigned sleepiness and opened her eyes, meeting Xie Ying’an’s gaze as he looked to the side at her. She immediately turned her head to look behind her.

The move was too sudden, almost causing her to twist her neck.

Seeing Qingran turn around, Song Shize gave her a grin full of white teeth.

Before Song Shize could speak, Qingran smiled first.

"Congratulations!" she said, "You must be feeling really excited right now."

The smile on Song Shize’s face, which had been all grins a moment ago, collapsed upon hearing this.

I’m excited my ass, I’ve never dated such an ugly girlfriend in my life.

Ruan Ruan pinched Song Shize’s arm and hissed at him: Smile!

Song Shize glared, damn it! Who do you think you are? Just because you tell me to smile, I have to smile? Wouldn’t that make me lose face.

Ruan Ruan added another threat: If you don’t smile, I’ll post about how you lost to me and have to be my boyfriend on the school forum...

"Ha ha ha..." Before Ruan Ruan could finish speaking, Song Shize burst into laughter at Qingran, against his conscience, "How did you know I can’t sleep because I’m so excited?"

Qingran’s mouth twitched slightly: "See, it shows."

Song Shize gave a thumbs up: "Great insight!"

Song Shize inwardly: Li Qingran, for fuck’s sake, you must be blind. Can’t you see I’m about to cry?

After a tiring day, many students around were sleeping, and Ruan Ruan spoke to Qingran in a low voice.

Ruan Ruan said she was so happy today that she wanted to treat Qingran and the others to a meal.

Qingran didn’t want to go; she was still worried about that pile of unwritten test papers.

Song Shize was shocked with his mouth hanging open: "No way, Li Qingran! It’s the holidays! Can’t you let yourself off the hook for one day? At least leave a way out for us underachievers!"

Qingran didn’t want to give them a way out, because Xie Ying’an, the top of their grade, had never left one for her.
