I Might Have Fallen in Love With My Childhood Sweetheart
Chapter 45 - 42: Following the Plot

Chapter 45: Chapter 42: Following the Plot

Wednesday comes around with a PE class for Class 1.

Conveniently, Class 7 has adjusted their schedule, having their PE class coincide with Class 1.

The PE teacher from Class 1 first has the students run two laps around the track. The boys are okay, but the girls are nearly collapsing from exhaustion.

After completing two laps, Ruan Ruan crouches on the ground, gasping for air, surrounded by a number of girls in similar states.

Qingran pulls her up, "Get up quickly, you’ll feel better after walking a bit."

Ruan Ruan can barely speak and waves at Qingran dismissively.

The PE teacher, whistling, calls out, "Students, don’t squat on the ground after running, get up and walk!"

Reluctantly, Ruan Ruan starts walking with Qingran, leaning on her shoulder and whispering complaints: "Ranran, why aren’t you tired at all?"

Qingran’s face is flushed from running: "I’m tired too, just not as much as you."

Ruan Ruan is on the verge of tears, "Why am I suffering like this even after surviving military training?"

Qingran teases her: "You should exercise more, it’s good for your body."

Ruan Ruan: "No, I just want to lay like Ge You forever."

The one truly not tired is Wen Shiyi, who approaches them. After running two laps, her face isn’t even flushed, "Qingran, Ruan Ruan, where are you headed?"

Ruan Ruan, looking at Wen Shiyi, spills envious tears, "Shiyi, your stamina is just too impressive!"

Wen Shiyi, with a shy smile, "I used to hike a lot when I lived with my grandma."

Qingran slightly lowers her head, remembering that part of the book mentioning Wen Shiyi being self-reliant, as her grandmother’s family isn’t wealthy.

Her grandma lives in a small town, relying on the mountains and waters for sustainability.

Wen Shiyi, well-behaved and sensible from a young age, took on many responsibilities to help her aging grandmother, chopping firewood and picking mushrooms up the mountains, and fishing in the waters to make money.

Mr. Wen never provided them with living expenses, but they managed just fine.

From a distance, the basketball court erupts in a clamor, and several girls look over to see students from both classes crowding around the court.

Ruan Ruan’s eyes gleam with excitement; suddenly, her legs don’t hurt, her back isn’t sore, and she can breathe easily.

She grabs Wen Shiyi with her left hand and Qingran with her right: "Ranran, Shiyi, let’s go have a look too."

Using her small stature, Ruan Ruan manages to squeeze herself, Qingran, and Wen Shiyi to the front of the crowd.

On the basketball court, the teams from Class 1 and Class 7 line up facing each other, with Class 7’s PE teacher standing in the middle, ready to act as the referee.

Class 1 is led by Xie Ying’an, and Class 7 by Song Shize.

Ruan Ruan curses internally: "Damn it, Song Erbi is asking for trouble again."

Qingran selectively goes deaf to Ruan Ruan’s habit of calling people by nicknames.

Wen Shiyi is also nervous, "By the looks of it, the two classes must be going to play basketball, right?"

Tsk, a basketball game, an almost inescapable plot point in campus novels.

Qingran doesn’t even have to watch the end to guess that Xie Ying’an will certainly be the winner.

How could the male lead possibly lose to a secondary antagonist?

At the whistle of the PE teacher, the game between the two classes finally begins.

Song Shize, bending over, dribbles the ball in front of him, left and right, non-stop, with Xie Ying’an in a defensive stance opposite him.

Song Shize’s eyes dart around, looking for an opportunity to break through, but Xie Ying’an’s defense skills are top-notch, leaving him no chance.

Suddenly, he speeds up, zigzagging left and right, quickly gets past two layers of defense and moves beneath the basket; he leaps, turns and shoots. The basketball flies in a beautiful arc through the air and lands perfectly in the net.

Class 7 scores one point.

The girls from Class 7 scream excitedly.

Ruan Ruan clicks her tongue in appreciation, "Looks like Song Erbi does have some skill."

Song Shize is grinning, provocatively laughing at Xie Ying’an with an arrogant and unrestrained demeanor.

The girls from Class 1 go wild, some of them cup their hands around their mouths and shout: "Handsome guys of Class 1, give it your all!"

Xie Ying’an scans through the crowd, stopping in the direction where Qingran stands; the corners of his lips lift into a handsome smile, and a spark shimmers in his obsidian-like eyes.

The surrounding female students explode in excitement, and even a large number of girls from Class 7 have switched sides.

"Ah ah ah—"

"Brother An is smiling at me, oh my..."

"Oh my God, ahh! My soul was taken by his laugh!"

"Ahhhh, when I’m of legal age, I definitely want to have a baby monkey for him!!!"

Ruan Ruan was dumbfounded, "This, how can this be crazier than me?"

Wen Shiyi was also stunned, "Just, just a laugh, although it was nice, it’s not like..."

That crazy.

Before Wen Shiyi could finish speaking, Ruan Ruan truly went crazy, "Ah!!! A goal, a goal, Brother An is awesome!"

...

With Xie Ying’an around, the place was never disappointing, the real battle began, Song Shize might not be great at studying, but he was certainly not to be underestimated in sports.

More than half of the class time passed, and the scores of both teams were nearly equal.

Li Qingran had a bad feeling in her heart. Amidst the rising waves of screams, she simply couldn’t calm her mind to think.

Until a player mishandled the ball and it followed a parabolic trajectory, heading straight in Li Qingran’s direction.

The action was too fast for anyone to react.

With a "bang," Wen Shiyi didn’t even let out a sound before his body went limp and fell to the ground.

"Ah!" A frightened scream came from the girls around, and the crowd exploded again.

Xie Ying’an and several boys ran crazily in this direction.

Xie Ying’an was the first to run over. He looked up and down at Li Qingran, his lips inexplicably pale.

After a long while, he asked with a hoarse voice, "Are you alright?"

Li Qingran knelt on the ground, half supporting Wen Shiyi, anxious, "I’m fine, quickly take Shiyi to the infirmary."

The PE teacher ran over, shouting while running: "Quick, boys help take this student to the infirmary, hurry up, hurry up."

Li Qingran clearly saw Xie Ying’an, who was at the front, frown slightly and step back a little, while Su Chen, reluctant as if being forced, squatted down and carried Wen Shiyi on his back.

PE was the last class of the afternoon, and as soon as it ended, school was over.

The doctor said that Wen Shiyi only suffered a great impact and fell into a brief coma, and after examination, there was nothing seriously wrong.

Li Qingran felt a headache on the way home and half lay on the sofa at home, waiting quietly for the severe pain to hit her.

Sure enough, in just a moment, a wave of intense pain hit her, and the disordered memories swarmed in.

On the playground, the two teams were still competing.

Li Qingran from the book stood among the crowd, cheering for Xie Ying’an, while Wen Shiyi stood at her left rear.

Xie Ying’an kept winning, Li Qingran and a group of girls screamed joyfully as if they couldn’t care less about their lives.

At the same time, the basketball was heading straight for Li Qingran. Scared out of her wits, she didn’t know who pushed her in the chaos, and she narrowly dodged the basketball, only for it to hit Wen Shiyi, who was behind her.

Xie Ying’an ran over, his gaze briefly passing over Li Qingran before landing on Wen Shiyi, who was lying on the ground. He panted heavily from running too fast.

Amongst the chaotic crowd, Huang Qianyu’s accusing voice was exceptionally clear: "I saw it, it was Li Qingran, Li Qingran dodged, and then the basketball hit the transfer student!"

There were voices of agreement around.

"I, I saw it too, if Li Qingran hadn’t dodged, that basketball wouldn’t have hit Wen Shiyi."

Amidst the noise, Li Qingran stood there helplessly, not knowing what to say.

Xie Ying’an glanced at the crowd, his eyes and brows filled with irritation, "Shut up!"

Having said that, he squatted down, carried Wen Shiyi on his back, and ran toward the infirmary.

On the way, Xie Ying’an passed by Song Shize, he seemed to have said something in a low voice.

Song Shize frowned and looked towards the crowd before casually walking over.

The voices of condemnation were still ringing out, but Song Shize took the basketball and threw it at one of the girls. The girl screamed and dodged away.

The basketball hit a boy behind her, who didn’t dare to express pain, instead rubbing his chest and calling out "Brother Ze."

Song Shize teased with a smirk, "Yo, didn’t you just shout pretty loudly? What are you dodging for?"

The girl squatting on the ground had her eyes reddened with anger and shame.

Song Shize was never one to pity or spare women, he took back the basketball and looked around the crowd nonchalantly, "Who has seen someone get hit by a basketball and not dodge? Step forward! Today, I really want to see if there’s any brave soul."

There was silence, the girls looked at each other, no longer blaming Li Qingran.

Song Shize raised an eyebrow, his smile exceedingly annoying: "Don’t be afraid, my family might lack many things, but we can afford the medical bills."
