Chapter 41: Team Higgs

Lukas picked up his phone and opened the HikHok social media app.

There were videos of men fighting with each other using their abilities.

One group of men were wearing black, while the other group, the security forces, were in their full gear.

The attacks had caught the security forces by surprise and some were badly hurt.

It was happening everywhere.

Even in the Awakened Center.

The news was also playing warnings for everyone to stay in their places before the disturbance would be put down.

Boom!

A loud explosion could be heard just as Lukas watched the video of men storming into the Awakened Center.

Harianto ran up from the basement and shouted, "Trouble incoming."

Footsteps could then be heard as men wearing black approached the building where they were.

"Everyone, get ready," Riley shouted and they stood in front of Lukas.

"Argh!"

The fence electrocuted the men when they held onto it to try and climb into the area.

"Useless fools," a man’s voice shouted and boom.

An explosion erupted and a part of the fence was brought down.

The man who was leading them then waved for the rest of the men to rush in from the opening.

Riley and the team ran out and got ready to face these men.

Lukas followed closely behind.

Rex turned back and said, "Don’t worry, we can take care of them in a jiffy."

When the men got through the fence, the parts from the fence which were blown off started moving and they shot at the men.

"Argh!"

The men cried out in pain.

The shrapnel from the fence had pierced through their bodies.

Seeing what had happened to those in front of them, the other men in black hesitated.

Thud.

The leader of the men kicked them from behind and caused them to fall flat on their faces.

"Cowards."

He lunged through the opening in the fence and a few other men and women followed.

Spikes made of rock shot out from the ground at them and they stopped in their tracks.

Crack.

They smashed the rocky spikes, and the rocks cracked into pieces.

"Riley, I don’t want any trouble.

"Just hand over that young man over there and we will leave peacefully.

"Why risk your team for a young man?

"I know how you always take care of your team members."

The man who was burly but had eerie scars and depressions all over his body said.

Riley shook his head and brushed his long blue hair.

"Higgs, my old friend.

"You should have stayed dead after you tried to backstab our team for some demonic beast core.

"And it seems like you’ve not learned the lesson."

Riley said and gave a thumbs down to Higgs, the leader of the opposing team.

As Riley spoke, Lukas felt static and the hair on his arms stood up.

Harianto glanced back at him, and with his chin pointed towards the back, signaling him to get ready to leap backwards at any moment.

Lukas nodded slightly.

"Enough! Let’s do it the hard way since you want it!" Higgs got triggered and lunged at Riley.

Rex, Harianto and Emma leaped backwards, and Lukas quickly followed suit.

Crackle.

Wind started blowing and crackling sounds could be heard.

A flash of bright lightning appeared from Riley’s hand.

Lukas had to cover his eyes from the bright light.

The lightning shot at Higgs, and it was too fast for Higgs to dodge.

Splatter.

It had blown off Higgs’s left arm.

Lukas was surprised by the lightning.

He recalled that Riley didn’t seem to be so powerful when he was attempting the training sequence.

A thought came across Lukas’s mind.

Riley must have been downplaying his ability all this while.

However, it was not over.

Higgs didn’t cry out in pain but smirked at Riley.

The next moment he picked up some of the flesh on the ground at Riley.

When the flesh got near Riley, they exploded.

Riley got hurled backwards from the explosion’s shockwave.

Emma quickly held onto Riley and shouted at Rex, "Do your job."

Rex, whose body had now turned into rocks, stepped forward and plunged his hands into the ground.

When Higgs and the other members from his team tried to get nearer, a huge wall made of rocks rose from the ground.

A woman in dark nurse attire picked up Higgs’s left arm, ran up to Higgs and placed it where it should be.

She hovered her hand over where the arm disconnected.

A white glow appeared from her hand, and onto the wounds of Higgs.

The flesh wriggled and grew, soon, the arm was attached back onto Higgs’s body.

Higgs swung his arm to test it, and he was satisfied.

A man who had iron spikes all over his body like a porcupine ran up to the rock wall with all his might.

Smash.

The iron porcupine man smashed into the wall and parts of the wall crumpled.

But from the opening, red smoke appeared, and the iron porcupine man screamed out in pain.

Some of the red smoke had caught his eyes.

Dark nurse quickly pulled the iron porcupine man back.

She hovered her hands over the iron porcupine man’s eyes and started to heal him.

"Luna, wait for the opportunity to take care of the young man."

Higgs shouted at a woman who had two swords in each of her hands.

She was the weakest amongst his team members.

But he figured that Lukas, as an SSS Level who had just awakened, should be at Novice Mastery.

And Luna who was at SS Level, with Master Level of Mastery, was enough to deal with him.

He then plunged his hands into his thigh and tore out a piece of flesh from it.

With the piece of flesh, he threw it at the rock wall that was obstructing their way.

Boom!

The piece of flesh gave out a bigger explosion than before.

Crumble.

The rock wall began crumbling down.

A man that was exceptionally thin stepped forward this time and he swiped his hand horizontally across at Riley’s team.

A gust of wind blew, and Lukas felt his cheek sliced open by the wind.

He quickly ducked as he saw the thin man swiping his hand horizontally across again.
