Chapter 14: Round Six!

The crowd outside the training room gasped out loud as they saw the Water Gorilla getting hit.

Could Lukas really do it, matching Riley’s achievement?

The Water Gorilla had other plans as it opened its mouth and shot out a water spout at Lukas.

Splatter.

Lukas held up his arms to block the water spout, but it sliced his arms open, tearing through the skin and bones of his arms.

"Argh."

He quickly gave the Water Gorilla a frontal kick to the fractured ribcage of the Water Gorilla.

Thud.

The impact forced the Water Gorilla to stumble a few more steps away from Lukas.

It took in a deep breath.

Lukas saw it doing so and he quickly rolled away to the side.

Slice.

The Water Gorilla opened its mouth and shot out a water spout, slicing its way through the training room, trying to catch up to Lukas.

Luckily, Lukas was too fast for it, and he stood up next to the Water Gorilla by its side.

By now, his arms had healed, and he lunged at the Water Gorilla’s head.

Splash.

The Water Gorilla protected itself with a wall of water engulfing its body.

The punches that Lukas threw at it only caused the wall of water to splash around.

Roar.

With a loud roar, the Water Gorilla swung its huge arms at Lukas.

Lukas ducked by squatting and the arms of the Water Gorilla missed him by an inch.

Unknowingly, his shadow moved and held onto the shadow of the Water Gorilla’s arms.

Lukas then plunged his hands into the wall of water and grabbed onto the eyes of the Water Gorilla.

Splatter.

The next moment, he gouged out the eyes of the Water Gorilla.

This caused the Water Gorilla to thrash around in pain and stumble around the training room aimlessly.

Lukas got to the back of the Water Gorilla.

He waited for an opportunity as the Water Gorilla was giving all that it had.

First, a water spout sliced all over the training room.

Then the Water Gorilla hurled out huge balls of water.

And when the balls of water exploded in the air, the small droplets of water penetrated the surroundings.

Lukas avoided being wounded by staying at the back of the Water Gorilla.

This went on for a few minutes as the Water Gorilla unleashed its anger blindly at Lukas.

Finally, when the Water Gorilla got tired and all it could do was swing its tired arms in slow motion.

Lukas then knew it was time for him to go in for the kill.

Using his shadow wielder ability, he made use of his shadow to grab onto the shadow of the Water Gorilla’s arms.

He then came forward to the Water Gorilla’s front and he thrust his fist at the chest of the Water Gorilla.

Splatter.

His fist broke through the ribcage of the Water Gorilla and the flesh and innards of the Water Gorilla splattered out from behind.

A familiar sound erupted in his mind.

The voice from the speakers in the ceiling boomed again.

"Water Gorilla eliminated."

"Initiating sequence for the Sixth Round."

The crowd of awakened looking into the training room couldn’t believe what they saw, and they gave out a huge cheer.

"He did it!"

"Can’t believe a rookie equaled Riley’s record."

"So, will he give up and stop the training sequence?"

"Hey! No smoking inside here."

One of the awakened got too excited and he wanted to light up a cigarette but was stopped by the security personnel.

The crowd took out their phones and quickly messaged their friends about what they had just witnessed.

Riley’s friend also did the same and sent a message to him.

...

When Riley got the message, he and his team were clearing the battlefield.

Riley brushed his hands along his long blue hair and said to himself, "Interesting. I must meet this Lukas when I get back."

"What’s so interesting, Riley?" One of his teammates asked, but Riley only shook his head and gave his teammate a smile.

His teammate shrugged as he was used to Riley being secretive by himself.

He didn’t dare to say much as the team’s success depended heavily upon Riley’s contributions.

...

Back at the training room.

"Director?" Mandy was surprised when she saw the gray-haired Rodney, with his cigar in his hand, approaching her.

"What’s the progress now?" Rodney asked as he looked into the training room’s large clear windows.

"He has beaten the fifth round and is on to the sixth round. If he wins the sixth round, then he would be the top-ranking awakened in the monthly ranking."

Mandy briefed the Director on Lukas’s progress.

Rodney nodded his head at the impressive feat of Lukas.

He watched attentively as the light beam projected down onto the ground.

The crowd held their breath and watched intensely as the light beam slowly disappeared.

"He better hope it’s not an Ember Elephant."

"No, how could anyone be so unlucky?"

"You never know how devious the training sequence is."

They mumbled amongst themselves and wished that Lukas wouldn’t meet an Ember Elephant for the sixth round.

The Ember Elephant was one of the toughest demonic beasts to kill.

And usually, it would take a whole team of awakened to be able to deal with an Ember Elephant.

If Lukas really encountered an Ember Elephant in the Sixth Round, then it was more or less game over for Lukas.

"Oh no." One of the awakened exclaimed as the light beam slowly disappeared.

He recognized the large figure and the trumpeting sound.

It was unmistakably an Ember Elephant.

All of them shook their heads and gave out a long sigh.

What an unlucky fellow Lukas was, they thought.

"Well, I think he better give up now."

"Yeah. Being on par with Riley isn’t too shabby."

"He better stop the training sequence now before he gets trampled on like a meat pie."
