Chapter 854: Chapter 854: Hello, my name is Li Zhao
"Okay, stop. I’m going to count to three, and then you squat down."
Fatty Jin had no clue what you were really up to, but when you reached "three," he instantly squatted down with a whoosh!
As Fatty Jin squatted, Xu Hailan’s gaze that seemed ready to devour him followed downward too, and in that moment, your body swiftly rose up, resulting in your gazes colliding head-on!
Boom!
Your mind was once again filled with a thundering noise as countless images emerged from within!
Moments later, you slowly stood up,
Seeing you getting up, Fatty Jin, still squatting on the ground, hurriedly asked, "How... how did it go?"
You didn’t speak, but extended two fingers toward Fatty Jin: "Two million."
"Huh?"
"The commission is raised to two million."
"Have you gone crazy thinking about money!?" Fatty Jin shot up, glaring furiously, "Do you know how much I spend on her maintenance a month? One hundred thousand, barely even a hundred thousand! Do you think I care that much about this madwoman? Ha! Two million, why don’t you go **** yourself! If that’s not acceptable, get the hell out of here right now and stop wasting my damn time. I’ll just find someone else if I have to!"
Without a word, you glanced at Xu Hai, then coldly laughed at Fatty Jin, "I’ll be leaving right away, but remember, if you call again, the price will be doubled."
Saying this, you turned and strode out of the villa.
When you stepped out of the villa gates, Xu Hai caught up with you quickly, patting your shoulder and asking, "Brother Yun, what’s going on? Why the sudden price increase? It doesn’t quite follow protocol."
"Protocol?" You turned to look at Xu Hai, and while your smile appeared calm, there was a newfound sternness in your eyes, "Haizi, you’re also a member of the upper echelons of society. Touch your heart and tell me, does this world truly have any rules?"
"This..."
"Those with money can squander without concern; those with power can obliterate humanity... Hmm, forget it, such talk is pointless, and makes me sound like some damn moralist." You slightly lifted your head, gazing into the now darkened sky, "Let’s go. Remember what I said, if that fatso calls you again, demand four million straight away."
"Four million!? Isn’t that a bit much? Considering the market rates..."
You turned to look at Xu Hai and smiled, "Don’t worry, although I’m unsure how many people in this big city are in this line of work, I guarantee that those who have the ability wouldn’t intervene, and those without it can only face death! Four hundred? Not much, just exactly enough."
"Enough?"
"What do you plan to do with the four million? Buy a car? A house?"
With a slight smile, you said, "A secret."
Xu Hai had one trait that made you enjoy working with him and calling him a brother.
Although many saw him as just another uneducated rich second generation, he was actually principled and lacked any air of entitlement typical of a wealthy youth.
After leaving Fatty Jin’s villa, he drove you home.
By the time you got home, the sun had shifted westward, its golden afterglow turning the entire yard a shade of gold.
You sauntered into the hallway and at the entrance, you encountered the landlady, Wu Xiuli.
She seemed a bit out of sorts, undoubtedly heartbroken over the loss of her most cherished pet.
"Sister Wu."
You approached her to greet her.
Wu Xiuli nodded slightly, and as you passed by, a few steps later, you heard her voice from behind, "Oh, by the way, Xiao Mu, there’s a new tenant in room 306. She’s a young girl, and life’s not been easy for her. If you have time, try to help her out, okay?"
"Mhm."
Nodding, you thought about the new girl as you headed upstairs, presuming she must be the old lady’s granddaughter.
Just as you entered, it seemed like someone was dragging something heavy. Turning your head, you saw a long-haired girl pulling a sack toward the stairs.
Her silhouette seemed familiar, but there weren’t many young female tenants here, so piecing together that she might be the old lady’s granddaughter, you quickly went forward and said, "Let me help you with that."
As you did so, you hurried to her side, took hold of the sack, turned to her with a smile and said, "You must be the old lady’s granddaughter, right? I’m a tenant in 302; my name is Li..."
When she lifted her head, you were stunned.
It was her!
The class teacher from class six, that fairy-like creature!
A girl like her should be living a life surrounded by stars, in a posh neighborhood with a driver up front and a maid trailing behind. Why was she here?
She responded with a genuine smile, her face showing a hint of shyness, "Hello, I’m Li Zhao."
"Zhao’er... Zhao’er..."
For some reason, in that moment, the name "Zhao’er" echoed as if spreading from your soul, causing you to blurt it out without a second thought.
She seemed slightly surprised, but her smile remained, and with a bit of shyness she said, "That’s what Grandma has called me since I was little. She must have told you, right?"
You responded absentmindedly and then picked up the sack.
Hmm?
There’s quite some weight to it.
You: "What’s in here?"
Zhao’er: "This is the rice I brought from my hometown."
You: "From your hometown? Your hometown is..."
Zhao’er: "In a small mountain village in Minnan, called Chaotian Village."
You: "From Minnan, that’s quite far, isn’t it?"
Zhao’er: "Yes, all these are well-wishes from the village folks; I couldn’t refuse them."
At this moment, you’d already carried the sack into the kitchen by yourself, and Zhao’er had poured you a cup of hot water. Her flawless face radiated a pure, unblemished smile, "I really appreciate your help. If I were alone, I might not have been able to carry it upstairs."
"It’s nothing, I may not have many other talents, but I do have quite a bit of strength." You said with a smile, politely finishing the warm water in the mug, and after a quick glance at the simple furnishings around, you added, "Is it just you living here?"
"Yes, my grandmother was supposed to live with me, but the family decided to take her back home."
You nodded: "The countryside is much better, isn’t it? Unlike the city, with its noise and bustle, the air and water there are good, and people can live a bit longer."
Zhao’er tilted her head slightly. From your perspective, she suddenly seemed incredibly cute, as if she’d transformed from a fairy to a charming figure in an instant.
She didn’t seem bothered by your direct gaze and continued with a smile, "If that’s the case, why not choose to live in the countryside?"
You shrugged: "No choice, really. Humans are strange creatures; we yearn for a quiet, stable, peaceful life but struggle in the noisiest and most congested places. Maybe, one day, when material conditions meet our desires, that’s when we’ll truly choose to leave. Uh... sorry, I didn’t mean to ramble on."
PS: They finally meet, so let’s have a love story that pays tribute to youth! Folks, what are you waiting for, let’s throw in your pocket money and monthly votes!
