I Have a Date with a Thousand-year-old Female Corpse -
Chapter 1137: Beauty and the Beast
Chapter 1137: Chapter 1137: Beauty and the Beast
Mercenaries shouldn’t be just those burly and strapping men or those frail-bodied Mages, or even the nimble Archers, right?
Seeing your face filled with surprise, Kaidi continued, "I am a Level 2 Mercenary from one of the Sad Plains’ seven major forces, the ’Beauty and the Beast’ Mercenary Group. You must feel quite intrigued, haha, even a Skeleton can be a mercenary. In fact, not only skeletons, our mercenary group is a gathering of warriors from all sorts of forms and races on the continent. Our Mercenary Group is divided into seven camps, each based on race or belief. For example, I belong to the Undead Camp, and there are also the Human clan, Elven Clan, Highland Tribe, Green-skin Tribe, Half Orcs, and the powerful Dragon Clan."
"Even the Dragon Clan!? But isn’t it said that dragons are solitary by nature? With such mighty strength, who could possibly harness them?"
As you recover your memory, you also inherit all the memories of this world, so at least you’re not entirely ignorant about this world.
"Of course, it’s our leader. She’s the most noble of the Dragon Clan, the Purple Dragon, and her power completely surpasses that of other dragons. Moreover, she is also known as the most beautiful woman on the Believers Continent, unrivaled in beauty, with none who can match her. Not to brag, but once you see her, you’ll be deeply captivated by her endless charm. More than seven-tenths of the thousands in our mercenary group’s seven camps serve her willingly for her beauty alone."
Speaking of their leader, even Kaidi the Skeleton can’t escape being banal, the cold blue light in his eyes somehow congealing into two heart shapes.
However, you’re obviously not interested in the continent’s number one beauty; what’s most important to you now is improving your strength.
"By the way, you just mentioned that you are a Level 2 Mercenary; what’s the highest level a mercenary in your group can achieve?"
"It’s shameful to say, but our mercenary group is divided into nine levels, with Level Nine being the highest. I’ve been striving in the mercenary group for over thirty years and have only managed to reach Level Two. Sigh, my biggest wish in life is to become a Level Seven Mercenary, so I could meet the leader once every month."
"Just keep working hard, you can definitely do it," you encouraged Kaidi.
"Thank you, but I’m quite aware that, with my ability, let alone Level Seven, even another hundred years of effort might not get me to Level Four. You don’t know, but those in our mercenary group who reach Level Seven are held in regard by Earl Level figures all over the continent, each one of them an expert among experts, something unimaginable to ordinary people, just how strong a Level Nine Badge holder is."
"From what you’re saying, if your leader wanted to dominate the continent, it would just be a thought away for her?"
After this exchange with Kaidi, you seem to develop a slight interest in the leader of this Mercenary Group.
"She’s not interested in dominating the continent, the only things that interest her in this world are shiny Gold and silver jewelry."
"What about men?" You don’t believe that a beauty wouldn’t like handsome and dashing men.
"Men? If those pursuing her were to line up, the queue would be longer than the River Zimu. For the past twenty years, there have been hundreds of suitors from various races each day, noble sons and heroic figures lining up in our headquarters’ square to see our leader. But now, there are relatively fewer people because over the years, everyone has come to understand her temperament – she only loves gold and silver jewelry, and ignores everything else."
As you were talking, Kaidi and you ventured deep into the dense forest. No wandering Skeletons were around them anymore, yet, you have spotted an even more fearsome enemy – Forest Wolves!
"Jeez, these guys are really troublesome." Seeing the Forest Wolves slowly encircling him, Kaidi said impatiently, "You just sit here and rest for a bit; I’ll take care of them in no time!"
Kaidi deftly drew his Longsword from his back, and as he moved, you sensed an ephemeral quality to Kaidi’s movements upon drawing his sword. His actions weren’t fast, but every thrust was incredibly precise, piercing through the heads of the Forest Wolves, killing them with a single blow! The Forest Wolves seemed to have a deep-seated hatred for Kaidi, launching attacks one after another, yet completely ignoring you.
"Sword Net!"
Kaidi, surrounded, suddenly let out a loud shout, and then his figure vanished. You could only see the thin Sword light of the Longsword. These lights, moving at an incredibly fast pace through each Forest Wolf’s head, eventually weaved into a Sword light net of no small size. When the Sword light ceased, Kaidi was surrounded by the corpses of a dozen Forest Wolves. Without any pause, Kaidi swung his sword and killed all the remaining wolves.
You were dumbfounded and amazed.
Not to mention anything else, just this swordsmanship, in your original world was unmatched as well!
If what Kaidi said was true, that with such skills he was only a Second-level Mercenary in the "Beauty and the Beast" Mercenary Group, what could Level Seven even look like?
For you, what’s most important right now was to enhance your strength. If you could accompany a master like Kaidi, your own power would surely grow much faster. You made up your mind and asked Kaidi, "Kaidi, can I join your Mercenary Group?"
"Sure thing, anyone can join our Mercenary Group. In our group, each rank of mercenaries can bring in a certain number of newcomers. For instance, as a Level 2 Mercenary, I’m entitled to recruit ten new members. Above me, each level can take ten more, although generally those above Level Five won’t condescend to recruit newcomers unless they see great potential." Kaidi sheathed his sword, helping you up, "Your body structure is quite unique; we’ve never had anyone like you in our group, someone with such a strong self-healing ability."
Following Kaidi’s gaze towards your own right foot, you’re thrilled to find the bones in your right foot had grown another three centimeters. At this rate, your body would be fully recovered within a day.
Like this, you verbally joined the strongest, most chaotic, and most unreliable Mercenary Group on the Believers Continent – the "Beauty and the Beast" Mercenary Group.
Kaidi led you to their squad’s tent. When a man and a Skeleton emerged from the grass, you noticed two Ghosts suddenly attacking you. Instinctively, you raised your hand to protect your face, but the Ghosts did not cause any actual harm, just passing through your body.
"Kaidi, who is this Human? Why did you bring him here?" A middle-aged man, clutching a Skull Staff and surrounded by a dark green aura, approached you and Kaidi with a gloomy expression.
"He is our new member; his name is Mu Yun."
"Hmph, this guy, even if he joins our Mercenary Group, he doesn’t belong to our camp." The two Ghosts that frightened you just floated gently beside the middle-aged man.
