Chapter 748: Chapter 186 I still want to have a good talk with your boss_3

As he reached the targeted range.

There were already many zombies around, a group that groaned with no clear purpose, staggering aimlessly about; among them were Evolutionary Zombies and the repulsive Mutated Zombies.

Lin Fan frowned, puzzled by such an environment. Could there really be survivors living here?

If one wanted to go out to gather resources, they would have to face a great number of zombies.

In his view, this was not the optimal location to choose.

"Hehe."

"Hehe."

The ferocious zombies noticed his figure and, like mad dogs, began to run toward him from afar. There were many of them, packed densely together— at a glance, there were at least a couple of thousand.

This was not a city, nor a suburb, but rather a service area on the highway.

The only place where survivors could take refuge was inside a four-story restaurant.

This shelter was much better than the previous one he had encountered, far from the city, away from crowded places. Still, the sheer number of zombies around made him wonder if anyone could truly survive here.

There was water and electricity in Huang City because they maintained it.

It always operated smoothly.

Whereas in other places, the water and power were long cut off. Losing power wasn’t frightening, but losing water was terrifying— it was the key factor in whether one could stay alive.

Lin Fan gripped Frostmourne with the blade pointed to the ground.

As the zombies lunged at him, the Frostmourne in his hand radiated a brilliance, a sign of being strengthened to a certain degree, while Lin Fan moved gracefully among the zombie horde. Wherever he passed, no complete zombie could remain standing.

"Why must you be so aggressive? If only you were a bit friendlier, I think we could have been good friends."

"You discarded your sanity not because of external influences; it was your own choice to lose it."

He kept cutting while speaking to himself.

Shortly after.

Lin Fan turned his head to look at the zombie corpses scattered all around, his expression calm and unruffled. If this had been the early days of the apocalypse, he might have been slightly affected, but now, after having hunted down countless zombies, the act had become as mundane as slaughtering pigs or chickens.

He arrived at the entrance of the restaurant.

The shattered glass door could no longer keep the zombies out.

Seeing this, Lin Fan sighed inwardly, disappointed that this place might let him down as well.

He walked inside.

The dim interior had a subtly off feeling to it, and a low growl was heard as a zombie clawed its way out of the darkness.

Thud!

Lin Fan caught the zombie by the neck and then threw it outside, with such force that the zombie, hurled through the air, instantly turned into a projectile and slammed into the perimeter fence.

With a bang,

the fence caved in.

The thrown zombie’s body shattered on impact.

Such rough treatment was something only zombies could receive from Lin Fan.

"Is anyone there?"

Lin Fan shouted loudly.

He didn’t go upstairs to check each room but waited for an echo instead. However, the situation here was just like the previous shelter; there was no sign of life whatsoever.

"As time goes on, the number of surviving survivors dwindles. Even with the protection of shelters, are we still unable to fend off the zombie incursions?"

Lin Fan’s mood grew heavier, and he felt a sense of helplessness —a feeling that anyone could have, even him.

He could clear Huang City of zombies, save countless survivors, but the number of cities that needed to be cleared throughout the country was immense.

He was only one person, limited to the places he could see and know of.

If he had the ability to clone himself thousands of times and worked tirelessly through from dawn to dark, and again from night until morning, he would, just to eradicate all the zombies completely.

Suddenly,

he sensed, within his perception, two faint breathing sounds.

"Are there still living people?"

Following the direction from which the breathing came, Lin Fan quickly approached the cold storage room. The breathing was coming from behind the sealed metal door.

Knock knock!

He knocked on the door.

"Hello, could you open the door?"

He spoke softly,

hoping that the living survivors inside would open the door.

But no matter how much he knocked, the metal door remained immovably shut, as if he had just realized something.

"They may be in danger, or they might be suspicious of me. Continuing like this won’t work; the only thing I can do is to break down the door."

Lin Fan grabbed the door handle and gave a slight pull outward. There was a snapping sound and the iron door was instantly opened by Lin Fan. The moment the door opened, a gleaming axe swung towards his head.

Lin Fan caught the falling axe in his hand, "Don’t panic, I’m not a bad person."

He looked at the two survivors in front of him, both males— one quite young and the other a middle-aged man. They both looked exhausted, their eyes flickering with fright, obviously terror-stricken by something unimaginable.

"You’re not one of them..." the middle-aged man said breathlessly.

"I’m not," Lin Fan shook his head. "Who are ’they’ you’re talking about?"

After the middle-aged man had explained everything from start to finish,

Lin Fan came to understand the situation. It turned out they had a radio, which they used to contact the outside world and eventually a helicopter landed on the rooftop of the restaurant they were in. A group of fully armed people appeared, whom they mistook for the rescuers.

But who could have imagined that the so-called rescuers would start shooting immediately, slaughtering the weak and sparing only those who were strong?

The two had been downstairs and upon hearing gunshots, felt something was wrong. They thought of checking upstairs, only to witness the massacre.
