Chapter 612: Chapter 163: Actually, I’ve Always Believed That You Are the True Future of Humanity
She did not know how long it had been.
The woman slowly opened her eyes, and the unfamiliar environment made her face change slightly as she sat up abruptly, her body tensed.
Was this a tent?
The space was so narrow that a glance took it all in.
"Where is this?"
She only remembered encountering a zombie, one of those with impeccable speed and strength. She had fought desperately, but ultimately it had pinned her to the ground and bitten her, its teeth tearing into her abdomen.
Gradually, she had lost all sensation, unaware of what had happened or why she had ended up here.
She lifted her clothes at the waist.
There were bite marks on her waist, but the flesh was intact.
She knew that what had happened was real.
It was just that she really did not know what had happened during the time she had lost her memories.
Rustle, rustle!
A slight noise could be heard.
Ji Qiuyue reacted calmly. In this unfamiliar environment and with unfamiliar noises, anyone would be on guard, but she knew that if someone had wanted to harm her while she had lost her memory, they would not have waited for her to wake up.
Soon, a small, round head appeared, with hair like a bird’s nest and a dirty face, but the pair of eyes were exceptionally bright.
Suddenly,
Ji Qiuyue and the boy looked at each other.
The little boy said nervously, "Hello, Auntie."
"Call me sister."
"Sister, hello."
The little boy was holding a shriveled piece of bread, who knew how long it had been in the sun, whether it was even edible was a question, but it was the only food he had found outside.
"What is your name?"
"Sister, my name is Jin Qiu."
"Where is this place?"
"I don’t know where this is either, but it’s very safe here. Lots of people are here, and there are many zombies outside. It’s very dangerous."
Ji Qiuyue looked at Jin Qiu’s face and his clothes, and in a brief moment, she had already figured out a few things – the plight of this little friend called Jin Qiu was probably no better than hers.
A survivors’ base.
"Where are your parents?"
Jin Qiu said, "They are all dead, I am the only one left."
Ji Qiuyue sighed in her heart, cursing the damned apocalypse that had broken so many homes and lives, and it was especially pitiful for these children, who should have been carefree, now forced to fend for themselves, struggling at the bottom of the food chain in this wretched world.
She stood up, ready to go outside and have a look.
"Sister, you can’t go out, it’s dangerous outside."
"What danger?"
"They will harm you. I’ve seen many sisters taken away by them. You’ll be safe if you hide here. Here, this is the bread I found outside just now, have some."
Jin Qiu looked at the bread, licking his lips, but still offered the bread he held to his sister.
Ji Qiuyue did not take the bread but looked at Jin Qiu’s face, which was somewhat helpless and confused. If there was anyone in this apocalyptic world who still retained the purest heart and humanity, it might be these children.
She knew what Jin Qiu meant.
Without the restraint of law, the outburst of human nature made women the prey of some men.
Ji Qiuyue lifted a corner of the tent and looked outside. The sweeping yellow sand made the surroundings look desolate. She thought about where she remembered appearing and which nearby environment resembled this one.
Instantly, she thought of an area.
But... how could she possibly have come here, over a hundred kilometers away, in an unconscious state?
Puzzled and perplexed.
"Sister isn’t hungry, you eat it," Ji Qiuyue said as she gently patted Jin Qiu’s head, stirring up a cloud of dust in the tent.
Jin Qiu shyly bowed his head, "Sister, I haven’t washed my hair in a long time, water is very precious here."
Then he seemed to remember something.
He began digging at the ground in haste.
Ji Qiuyue’s expression shifted slightly when she saw Jin Qiu pull out a bottled water buried in the ground. The children living here had to bury water in the soil—were they afraid it would be stolen by others?
"Sister, if you’re thirsty, drink some water."
Jin Qiu was very generous. While Ji Qiuyue was unconscious, he had been rationing the water by cups, but now that his sister was awake, he acted as though it would be fine even if she drank it all.
"Sister won’t drink it; don’t they share food with you here?"
"No, everyone has to find their own outside. If you can’t find anything, then you’ll just have to go hungry."
Listening to what he said,
Ji Qiuyue felt a deep sense of empathy.
"Have you thought about leaving this place?"
She asked.
Staying here, Jin Qiu could end up two ways: one was to survive against all odds until he grew up and, influenced by the surroundings, became one of the new villains in this post-apocalyptic world.
The other was to not make it to the end and die tragically.
The latter was the most likely.
Jin Qiu said, "Yeah, I want to leave. I want to go to Sunshine Shelter in Huang City. There’s an Uncle Lin there. I saw what he wrote, and he’s welcoming everyone there."
"How do you know about Sunshine Shelter in Huang City?" Ji Qiuyue was very shocked.
Jin Qiu started rummaging in the tent again, and quickly found a booklet, "Look, sister, this is it. I found it when I was picking up trash outside, there were two of them. At first, I thought it was a comic book, but later I found out it wasn’t. The other one was discovered and taken away by them, but they don’t know I still have one."
