Chapter 497: Chapter 143 Is This the Tone You Use When Talking to Me?
"The flesh of the Awakener should still be useful to Officer Huang," he said.
He waited for Officer Huang to evolve.
True to the man he acknowledged, and even more, the star of hope in Huang’s police station, his evolution was orderly, not veering towards deformity or mutation.
A moment later.
Officer Huang returned to normal, slowly stood up, and the light in his eyes shone brighter. The path of human evolution might be endless, and so too should be the path of zombie evolution if not led astray.
"I knew Officer Huang was awesome," Lin Fan said, giving a thumbs up.
Officer Huang glanced at Lin Fan, his somewhat humanized look seeming to say, "You’re stating the obvious, buddy."
"Officer Huang, I’m currently moonlighting as a photographer, specializing in taking photos of various kinds of zombies. Don’t worry, I’m a professional photographer; I won’t mess around," Lin Fan declared.
Lin Fan swung his camera, aiming to take some nice photos of Officer Huang, as taking photos of him was different from taking photos of other zombies.
The choice of angle was very important.
Officer Huang’s gaze fixed on Lin Fan, appearing puzzled as if wondering what exactly this young man was up to.
"Officer Huang, just give me a moment," Lin Fan said.
After saying this, he hurriedly ran into a nearby shop and came out with a bottle of mineral water and a towel.
"Officer Huang, the upcoming photo shoot is really important, likely to be printed in numerous copies and distributed. You will be the model in the booklet. The image is essential," Lin Fan explained.
"So... apologies in advance."
Lin Fan used the wet towel to clean Officer Huang’s face, blood-stained as it was. If it were another zombie’s face this dirty, he definitely wouldn’t have touched it, but Officer Huang was different.
He bore no thoughts of disgust.
This was the good police officer in his heart.
Soon enough.
He was quite pleased looking at his own handiwork.
"Handsome—as always, Officer Huang." Lin Fan admired.
With the camera, he took photos of Officer Huang from various angles, clearly exhibiting special care that he did not afford to other zombies.
Officer Huang seemed to understand Lin Fan’s intentions.
He didn’t move at all, allowing Lin Fan to keep shooting.
Lin Fan reviewed the images in the camera, growing more satisfied the more he looked, feeling that he had probably chosen the wrong profession initially. If he had learned photography from a master back then, he could have become the top photographer in Huang’s private photography scene by now.
"Thanks, Officer Huang," Lin Fan said.
As for whether the officer could understand, in his heart, Lin Fan was sure he did.
"Heh heh."
Officer Huang turned and walked away, not giving a second thought, as if to say, "I can’t be bothered chitchatting with you, kid."
"Take care."
Lin Fan waved his hand until Officer Huang disappeared from sight. Lin Fan then contemplated heading to Huanghua Road to see what the shelter of the Sky Eye Gang’s boss, Niu Zhi, really looked like.
Thinking of the distance to Huanghua Road, it seemed a bit far.
But it was within an acceptable range.
...
Huanghua Road.
A figure walked along the street.
Observing the surrounding environment, he found fewer zombies here than he expected, with abandoned cars littering the roadside and many decayed bodies.
When the apocalypse erupted, who knew how many people had been fleeing, the crowded environment often leaving little space for survival, abandoning cars was a foolish choice, but staying inside was even more dangerous.
The pack of frenzied zombies, upon seeing people inside the cars,
would smash their heads against it until they broke the glass and pulled the live humans out to bite them to satisfaction.
"Is this the place?" he pondered.
A building ahead caught his attention; a four-story KTV club, sealed off at the front with various vehicles piled up. Faintly, he could see shadows moving above.
Why Niu Zhi would choose such a place for a shelter,
he did not know.
If Niu Zhi knew about Lin Fan’s confusion, he would surely tell him, "I was just drunk playing around here last night, fell asleep, and by the time I woke up, the damn apocalypse had erupted."
Lin Fan circled around the KTV, reaching the backdoor with a security gate, grabbing the handle, wondering whether to force it open?
But he then thought better of it.
Looking up at a window on the second floor that was open,
"Really no sense of security."
Lin Fan shook his head. Although Niu Zhi could control zombies, the survivors living here should still be cautious. Such a height, easy to breach if zombies stacked up like Arhats.
He leapt up, grabbed the window, and jumped inside.
He appeared in a dimly lit private room, spacious and lavishly decorated. He opened the door and stepped into the corridor, seeing no one, surmising they might all be on the fourth floor. So, he headed upstairs.
Upon reaching the top,
he ran into a middle-aged man face-to-face, who seemed quite bewildered upon seeing Lin Fan.
"Who are you?" the man asked.
"My name is Lin Fan. I heard from Niu Zhi this place is a shelter, so I came to check it out," Lin Fan responded.
Lin Fan observed the middle-aged man, who looked somewhat simple, especially his forehead, which bizarrely also bore a Heavenly Eye tattoo, albeit an ugly one, clearly poorly done.
The middle-aged man remained baffled, certain he had never seen Lin Fan before, but since the latter mentioned Niu Zhi, there must be some acquaintance.
