Chapter 456: Chapter 136 I Feel Like I’m Someone Who Does Great Things_2
Even as the apocalypse arrived, she always thought society was normal and wouldn’t have all sorts of chaotic occurrences, even if Li Qun was ignored by zombies, that might have been due to some unique characteristic of his body.
After meeting Lin Fan, she realized that the situation might not be as simple as she had thought.
"Please stop the car."
Lin Fan spoke up.
Chen Xin stepped on the brakes, looking at Lin Fan with confusion, then saw him waving at her, getting out to buy something, unaware of what he intended to do.
Lin Fan walked into a daily necessities store.
She suddenly thought of a possibility, could he be going to buy condoms?
Thinking this,
she felt a rush of fear and quickly shook her head. It wasn’t condoms. The store’s condoms were displayed at the cashier’s counter, prominently arranged on shelves to ease the purchase while checking out, letting customers grab them discreetly instead of standing in front of the condom shelf, agonizing over which type to pick, and feeling embarrassed by onlookers.
"Sister Xin, what is he grabbing?" someone asked.
Chen Xin shook her head, clueless.
She kept watching the store’s interior and soon saw him approaching the counter with a large bag, and to her astonishment, he began scanning items with the cashier tools.
What was even more terrifying was that he was actually paying.
She watched him carefully pull out a wad of cash from his pocket, counting it seriously, mouthing words as if he was speaking to someone, that soliloquizing look made people nervous for some reason.
"He couldn’t be mad, could he?"
Chen Xin frowned, muttering, feeling puzzled.
As she pondered, Lin Fan got back into the car with two large bags.
"All set, we can drive now."
Chen Xin looked at the contents of the bags and could clearly see they were packed with sanitary pads.
What kind of mindset would a man have to buy these during an apocalypse?
Lin Fan noticed Chen Xin’s gaze.
He simply smiled calmly.
"These are sanitary pads. Sunshine District shelter has quite a few women, and the amount needed is equally large. Even in an apocalypse, some things are still indispensable," he explained.
Chen Xin gaped at him, visibly taken aback and slow to react.
Other female survivors in the bus nodded in agreement, looking at Lin Fan differently, with an air of approval and admiration. They felt that a man who could say such things must be a decent person, which helped them feel not as tense as before.
If Lin Fan knew that buying sanitary pads could gain him favor,
he surely would have bought more.
Chen Xin continued to drive, her mind in disarray, filled with many questions.
"May I ask, why did you check out?"
Indeed, Lin Fan’s actions had truly shocked her, or rather, she didn’t understand them, completely perplexed by what he was thinking.
Lin Fan responded surprised, "Isn’t paying for goods a normal thing to do?"
Chen Xin: ...?
She was stumped by his question.
Upon reflection, it seemed reasonable, but that rationale didn’t hold up in an apocalyptic world. Better not to think about it; her mind felt as muddled as mush.
Sunshine District.
Chen Xin drove towards the iron gate that marked the Sunshine District, observing the large shelter beyond what she had imagined, as she saw people patrolling the surrounding rooftops.
The others also pressed their faces against the car windows, looking out.
As they approached the Sunshine District, they noticed the roads getting cleaner, devoid of even a ghost of a zombie, which seemed incredible to them.
"Just park outside," Lin Fan said.
Chen Xin and the others got out of the car, observing the surroundings. Behind the iron barrier lay the Sunshine District; they still couldn’t say for sure what it was like inside.
She prayed, "Oh Lord, please give us hope, let this not be a den of thieves, otherwise we would truly despair."
Guan Hao saw Lin Fan bring back so many girls, his eyes widened, somewhat dazed, then he awkwardly smiled under their wary gazes.
"Hello, big brother."
A streetwise greeting.
Lin Fan said, "They are the survivors I brought back, now members of our shelter. Registering them will be your responsibility."
"Brother, you don’t need to mention it; it’s something I should do. I might be slow and lack skills, but I can do simple tasks like this," Guan Hao said, slightly embarrassed. He really liked Lin Fan, who was always polite to him, and he loved this place, willing to dedicate everything to this shelter in the apocalyptic world.
If anyone dared to threaten it, he would fight them with his life.
Lin Fan stepped inside, "Please, come in."
He knew they were still wary of him, which he understood as unavoidable. Only through personal experience could anyone understand the truth behind the claims.
No matter how enticing someone’s words could be, they never matched firsthand experience.
"Um,"
Chen Xin, the leading figure among the group, took a heavy step forward, entering the shelter. It might have been a small step, but for their lives, it was a monumental shift.
For Chen Xin, as she walked in, bustling noises filled her ears.
She stared blankly at the scene before her.
People coming and going.
Men and women, old and young, busying themselves, their faces bearing smiles and a relaxed demeanor free from fears of the apocalypse.
