Chapter 425: Chapter 131 This Is Distrust of the Only Light in Zombies
Sunshine District.
The mandarin duck hot pot was set up, featuring various crabs, fish slices, river shrimp, vegetables, instant noodles, eggs, and even some beer. This kind of spread definitely couldn’t compare with the days of peace.
It was relatively shabby.
Lacking various meats.
But in the apocalypse, this was considered pretty good, and being able to enjoy such delicacies was truly great.
"To be able to eat hot pot now, that’s really awesome," Ahai said, his face slightly flushed. After a few beers, the effects of the alcohol kicked in, and he looked at Lin Fan with admiration in his eyes, no words needed.
There’s something about enjoying a hot pot outside, feeling the breeze, breathing in the fresh air, and tasting the delicious broth that would make anyone comment, "Are you trying to survive the apocalypse or are you on vacation?"
When the community first started, having this kind of life was somewhat difficult. But as time went on with development and construction, supplies gradually increased. Once they took to planting their own vegetables, things started to pick up, and self-sufficiency was achieved.
Han Shuang said, "Today we went to the shelter where Zhou Yang is staying. There are Awakeners there, and they can run very fast."
Clutching his chopsticks, Gu Hang looked up in astonishment.
Lin Fan smiled and said, "Yeah, that’s normal, within expectations. Wenwen’s case might not be the only special one. There definitely are other survivors out there, like the guy named Ma Yilong Pengfei and the others encountered who could twist a steel pipe into a pretzel with his hands. Strength amplification, akin to that of a Powerful Zombie."
Listening to him, Gu Hang fell into thought. He considered these Awakeners as a new type of humanity emerging due to the harsh environment of the apocalypse.
Although it seemed now that there weren’t many of them, he believed that as things continued to develop, more Awakeners would gradually appear.
Han Shuang continued, "He already knows the uses of crystals and has traded the information for supplies with other shelters."
"Right, that was inevitable. It was just a matter of finding out sooner or later, no need to dwell on these things," Lin Fan said with a smile, not taking it to heart. If it meant some people would become more powerful and help clear out Zombies, it was a good thing.
After saying that, he looked at the kids playing not far away.
He quite enjoyed the leisurely moments, as going out to fight zombies always confronted him with gruesome sights, like rotting bodies of survivors who had taken their own lives.
He might not have witnessed it personally.
But he could imagine the despair they must have felt at the beginning.
"Uncle Lin, I want to eat sausage," Tingting bounced over to Lin Fan’s side, eyeing the boiling hot pot, the fragrant smell almost making her drool.
"Okay."
Lin Fan picked up a slice of sausage and fed it to Tingting, who then, eating the delicious meat, bounced back towards the others.
A child’s life is simple like that.
"Xiaofan, do you think Wenwen’s Telekinesis needs to be stimulated?" Gu Hang voiced his speculation.
Lin Fan replied, "You mean, like the scenes often depicted in movies where, facing danger and under intense emotions, someone suddenly unleashes telekinetic power?"
"Yes, exactly that."
"I understand, but those situations are just dramatizations in movies. Now it is reality. To force Wenwen to unleash her Telekinesis under such emotions could be harmful to her body. I don’t think it’s advisable. Everything in the world has its process of growth. Forcing it prematurely might not be beneficial."
Lin Fan decided against that suggestion after thinking it over.
He watched Wenwen playing jump rope with the others in the distance, her face always wearing a happy smile. That was already enough for him. There were things he was ready to do himself, without the pressing need for others’ aid, and that certainly didn’t include putting such a burden on a child.
Gu Hang said, "Okay then, let’s not discuss Wenwen’s abilities for now. But as for the survivors living in the shops around here, their numbers are growing. I think we should establish a process, a system for harmonious development that will be beneficial for the future."
Lin Fan smiled, "Hangge, you have the experience and knowledge. I’m just good at cutting down zombies. Planning and decision-making are a bit beyond me."
"Haha, Xiaofan, you’re being too modest. But for this matter, we should ask Han Shuang; after all, she used to be a company executive and has her own ideas on this," Gu Hang said, looking towards Han Shuang. The development of Sunshine District was related to everyone present, but ensuring its safety was a foundational prerequisite for all development efforts.
That’s why Lin Fan’s importance was beyond question.
Like a nuclear weapon, he was the backbone of everyone. It didn’t matter how the residents of Sunshine District went about their business, even if they made mistakes in their approach. With Lin Fan around, there was always the opportunity to correct their course.
"I don’t think I can manage," Han Shuang suddenly felt the weight of responsibility.
Old Master Wang, who had been listening to the young people’s conversation, laughed, "Xiaohan, your capability is evident to all. You’re calm, skillful, and competent. Everyone knows this, so don’t be too modest. Speak up with your ideas boldly."
With these words from Old Master Wang,
Han Shuang bowed her head in contemplation, her mind whirring. After a brief pause, she looked up, an idea formed, a rough plan already in mind.
"Alright, then let me share. Our Sunshine District has changed a lot from the beginning. Our numbers have grown from a dozen people to now over a hundred. Apart from those of us in the District busy with various tasks, the survivors living in nearby shops are also keeping busy. The concerning part is, everyone seems busy, but it’s not clear what with. That’s a worrying situation.
