Chapter 340: Chapter 116: Show off as a sage in public? No, I’m just an ordinary citizen_6
Ma Weiyan looked at the zombies incessantly clawing at them, felt for his pockets searching for a cigarette. After a long search, he couldn’t find one and remembered that he had already smoked the last one.
"Do you have a cigarette?"
"I don’t smoke."
Ma Weiyan grabbed the walkie-talkie, "Xiao Liu, Xiao Liu, do you have any cigarettes over there?"
A moment later.
A voice came through on the walkie-talkie.
"Da da da... Damn, where are the bullets? Aren’t there any bullets left? Fuck, I’ve been firing and not a single bullet has hit their heads, damn it..."
"Brother Ma, what did you say? Out of cigarettes? I think we’re screwed, damn, these damn zombies."
Listening to the voice from the other side.
Ma Weiyan sighed, looking towards the zombie horde ahead.
More and more.
They had already blocked the way forward.
Indeed, firing guns in the city was a foolish act; the zombies were like mad dogs, rushing towards the scent of shit, not considering whether there were enough humans to go around.
Despair enveloped them. For the survivors, this was their dead end. Watching despair take over before their eyes, the feeling was truly indescribable.
Ma Weiyan thought it might be better to off himself rather than be torn apart by zombies and turn into one of those disgusting creatures.
And just then.
A voice erupted.
"Everybody, shut up!"
This voice actually overpowered the roaring of the zombies.
The roaring zombies, upon hearing the voice, seemed momentarily stunned, as if they were subdued by it.
"What’s happening?"
Ma Weiyan exchanged looks with Qiu Bing, looking forward to find the source of the voice.
"Look at the roof of that building."
Qiu Bing’s mouth hung open, pointing in shock at the high-rise in the distance.
Ma Weiyan followed the direction and looked. At the top of the building, there seemed to be a figure standing, unclear who it was. Then, to his astonishment, he saw that figure leap from the high-rise, no... it looked more like a dive.
It must be an illusion, definitely an illusion.
There’s no way someone could jump from that height and still be alive.
At this moment.
Lin Fan, who dove down, landed firmly on his feet. His palms slowly reached behind his back as if ready for a Light Saber Transformation. As Lin Fan assumed a sword-drawing stance, a fierce wind swept up and he disappeared from the spot in an instant.
He needed to take out the zombies as fast as he could.
He saw that the car was about to be breached by the zombies.
Dawdling over cleanup was just wasting time.
Ma Weiyan and Qiu Bing stood with their mouths agape, dumbfounded, as if seeing some terrifying monster emerging in the distance.
They saw the bodies of zombies, torn in half, ascend into the air, along with dense and viscous blood scattering across the sky.
Getting closer, they gradually approached.
They saw flickering silver light like a vast net, covering all the zombies. With every flash of silvery-white light, those zombies, horrific in their eyes, were torn asunder.
They couldn’t see who it was, couldn’t make out what the situation was.
It was as if something suddenly disappeared right before their eyes.
Rubbing their eyes.
The moment they opened their eyes, they gasped in shock, their eyeballs nearly bursting; the road ahead was like hell on earth, covered with the limbs and organs of zombies, with thick viscous blood everywhere, not a single living zombie in sight.
And then.
They heard a noise behind them.
As if astonished by not knowing whether the outside was dangerous, they hurried out of the car and saw the Evolutionary Zombie sprawled on top of the bus. It was about to wave its meat cone, when suddenly, its head was split by some force, a force that felt like a gust of wind.
"What... what is this?"
Ma Weiyan stuttered, the scene before him exceeded his understanding. Even if it were Superman, at least you could see a silhouette, right? But now, they couldn’t see any figure, only the roaring zombies getting sliced and falling to the ground in droves.
Qiu Bing swallowed, "Are we dreaming?"
"Slap me."
Without hesitation, Qiu Bing slapped Ma Weiyan hard, the sound crisp, convincing him that this was definitely not a dream.
Very soon.
The zombies that had terrified them were gone, every single one of them lay on the ground, not a single one alive.
And finally, they saw who it was.
The figure appeared seemingly out of thin air, standing at the far end, with its back to them.
The person was holding a red sword that looked somewhat familiar. As they shook it lightly, the red faded, replaced by silver light that sparkled in their eyes.
The survivors from the bus came down and their expressions were exactly like that of Ma Weiyan’s—stiff, horrified, disbelieving, as if they were trapped in a dream.
In their line of sight.
The figure turned around, slowly slung the sword over its back, and then, stepping on the corpses of the zombies, started walking towards them slowly.
With each step the figure took, it caused a tremor in their hearts.
The hope that burst forth from beneath the depths of despair left them feeling unable to react.
Very soon.
Lin Fan arrived in front of them and looked at the survivors’ faces, their eyes. Both parties were silent, forbearing words.
It wasn’t until Lin Fan spoke up that the silence was broken.
"Hello there,"
he greeted warmly.
Still quiet, no one spoke.
The group of survivors all watched him, and the children from the bus were also quietly observing from the windows.
Lin Fan was aware of their ordeal, understood their emotions. Facing so many zombies could drive anyone to despair, and their resistance was merely a pursuit of hope, yet displayed as a futile gesture.
But the hope of survival had truly arrived.
That moment was a heavy blow to their hearts.
Ma Weiyan stepped forward, looking at Lin Fan. He opened his mouth to speak several times, then closed it, and finally took a deep breath and asked, "Excuse me, are you a god?"
As he spoke these words.
All eyes were unanimously fixed on Lin Fan.
As if they were all awaiting such a verdict.
Lin Fan smiled, a friendly smile toward the survivors, and also a welcoming one for those he acknowledged as survivors.
"No, I’m not a god. I’m just an ordinary citizen like you, searching for hope in this post-apocalyptic world,"
he said.
Immediately.
The scene fell silent.
Even Ma Weiyan who had spoken was just staring at Lin Fan dumbfounded.
The thought resonated in his head.
An ordinary citizen in pursuit of hope?
Is this real?
