Chapter 291: Chapter 108: The Achievements of the Base, The Second Meeting of Sunshine District Commences_4
"Begin the speed test," said Professor Xia.
The Eagle strode toward the test area, making mechanically resonant sounds with every step, providing an undeniable sense of futurism to anyone who saw it.
Monitoring equipment all around kept vigilant watch.
As the Eagle started to run, data began to appear, with the final figure showing a 20% increase in speed.
This was the third test; the first had been the Eagle’s speed without the power exoskeleton, and now, with it, there was a 20% improvement.
Such an enhancement was significant.
"Professor Xia, is this due to the boost from crystal energy?" the Eagle inquired.
Professor Xia replied, "No, this is the culmination of human ingenuity. The crystal energy didn’t enhance your speed. We’ll now test the sensation of colliding with zombies, starting with the simulation of a normal zombie’s full-force charge. Get ready."
"Yes."
The Eagle always harbored hope for humanity’s future and thus yearned for satisfying results from the tests.
The simulation commenced.
A collision force, invisible to the naked eye, erupted. The Eagle retreated a single step but remained steadfast. Without the exoskeleton, a real zombie might have easily toppled him.
Watching scientists held a glimmer of hopeful light in their eyes.
Good heavens, it might actually be successful.
This gave them hope for combating the zombies.
Professor Xia said calmly, "Next, we’ll simulate the collision with a Powerful Zombie. Prepare yourself, Eagle. This encounter may be extremely uncomfortable. You must treat it as a genuine confrontation with a Powerful Zombie. Feel it thoroughly to determine if such an impact would incapacitate you."
"Yes."
The Eagle took a deep breath and prepared himself completely.
"Begin."
At Professor Xia’s command,
The Eagle braced himself, keen to withstand the collision. Suddenly, as a tremendous force burst forth, the Eagle’s face distorted dramatically, and he uncontrollably rolled backwards several meters, his head spinning. He struggled to his feet and shook his head to clear it.
"Professor Xia, I’m all right. I’m still conscious. There was a brief discomfort, but it’s bearable," he reported his condition.
"Grandpa Xia, does this mean we’ve succeeded?" Qiuyue’s voice reached them.
Professor Xia laughed, "The preliminary experiment is a success, but there’s still the most crucial test to conduct. Eagle, pick up the straight blade over there."
The Eagle eyed the straight blade laid out before him, noticing its extraordinary hue, sparkling with silver-white brilliance and radiating a chilling sharpness.
In his hand, it gave the Eagle a peculiar sensation.
A staff member brought over a steel plate.
"Eagle, take the straight blade and strike with all your might," instructed Professor Xia.
Scientists from both Desert Base and Galaxy Base watched in astonishment,
Expecting no real difference after a full-force swing.
"Yes."
Following the order, the Eagle grasped the straight blade, roared, and slashed at the steel plate. There wasn’t the expected shower of sparks; instead, the blade cut through the steel as if it were slicing tofu.
The observers gasped in shock at the spectacle.
Even the Eagle hadn’t anticipated the blade in his hand being so incredibly sharp.
Professor Xia explained, "To kill a zombie, one must either chop off its head or split its body in two. But even for trained soldiers, decapitating a zombie without the chance to gather strength is extremely challenging. And to cut into a zombie’s head, starting with the skull, is practically inconceivable."
"But a straight blade infused with crystal energy can easily cleave through."
As Professor Xia finished,
Everyone rejoiced. They had been research-bound with little to show for it until Professor Xia came along with results. Without his insights on crystal energy absorption, no one would have guessed it.
"The final phase of the experiment begins. Eagle, you will face a living zombie. You must use the blade in your hand to kill it. Understood?" Professor Xia instructed.
"Understood." The Eagle was already prepared, unafraid, feeling like a War God, easily capable of slicing through zombies.
A cage slowly descended, containing a zombie.
Soldiers armed with guns stood on the second floor, aiming down to prevent any mishaps and ready to kill the zombie at a moment’s notice.
"Grr..."
The caged zombie growled menacingly. Enraged at the sight of a human, its ferocity peaked, slamming against the cage, desperate to break free and shred its prey.
As the cage door opened,
The zombie lunged at the Eagle, its wide, oozy mouth agape, charging quickly—such was the collision that even from a distance would knock down most people.
Calmly, the Eagle handled the straight blade, sidestepped the zombie’s advance, and slashed at its waist. With a wet squelch, the zombie split in two.
Astonished at the cleanly cut wound on the zombie’s waist,
The Eagle’s eyes widened with incredulity. "Professor Xia, I felt no resistance while slicing—like cutting through tofu."
With the experiment concluded,
Professor Xia’s face broke into a rare smile.
Some scientists were moved to tears, "Hahaha... humanity’s hope! We’ve finally found our hope against the zombies!"
Ever since the apocalypse began, they had found no effective methods of fighting back, leaving these surviving scientists in utter despair.
Though still alive, who could endure a world without a future?
