Chapter 221: Chapter 097: If It Brings You Hope, I Am Willing to Bear This Battle_2

The zombies floating in the water heard the sound, each releasing their primal ferocity, their pursuit of music having reached its peak.

This pursuit ignored the surrounding environment, no matter how harsh it was, nothing could stop their fervent hearts from chasing the music.

Flapping about.

Settling down.

The female bodyguard, holding a walkie-talkie, communicated with her counterpart on the yacht.

"Check if the zombies have sunk into the water."

"They’ve sunk, but a few zombies have reached the shore and are running towards the manor upon hearing the sound,"

"Received."

The female bodyguard knew the manor’s gates were already locked. With not many zombies around, it was easy to resolve, standing from a higher position and simply smashing the zombies’ heads in.

"Heh, heh"

The snarling of zombies came from outside the walls.

The bodyguards climbed on the walls, holding iron tools; their faces were grave as they harshly slammed the tools onto the zombies’ heads.

Splat!

Splat!

Holes gushed with blood. If one strike wasn’t enough, they struck several more times. In the absence of firearms, these iron tools were the best.

The manor.

"Master, all the zombies have been cleaned up. I think we can keep playing music on the yacht to prevent any zombies from sneaking onto the island," said Miss Zhou, the bodyguard.

Tang Li said, "You’ve worked hard."

...

...

Sunshine District.

"There’s an unanswered call."

Lin Fan looked at the satellite phone, given by Miss Tang. Except for a call he had made the day before, he hadn’t touched it; it was usually kept at home.

Thinking that she might have called for a reason.

He dialed back.

Ring, ring, ring...

Connection established.

"Hello, I had left the phone at home and missed your call. Is there something you need?" Lin Fan always started his phone conversations this way, not knowing if the caller might be facing some trouble.

"You’re still alive," the voice on the other end said, seemingly in disbelief.

Lin Fan was slightly shocked—what did he mean by ’still alive’? For him, being alive was quite the norm. If someone with a bad temper heard this, they would definitely explode in anger.

Thinking about a former client, Autumn Knife Fish, who would have blasted the caller into bewilderness if he had received the call.

Just the thought was terrifying.

Lin Fan said, "Yes, alive, still very much alive. Thanks for your concern."

Maybe he realized his way of speaking was a bit off.

"Sorry, young man, thank you for the reminder. Your warning about the zombies being able to swim was true. Thanks again; the consequences would have been unimaginable otherwise."

Lin Fan said, "No problem, it was the least I could do. Is there anything else?"

He didn’t know who the caller was, but from the voice, it sounded like a man, likely someone from Miss Tang’s side. He was genuinely happy that Miss Tang and her group could reach a safe place.

In these apocalyptic times, survivors cherishing life was a luxury. Having a safe place was wonderful; being alive meant there was hope, for death meant having nothing.

"I am Tang Jiayu’s father, Tang Li. Jiayu mentioned that there are other survivors in Sunshine District. I was wondering if you’d like to come to Tang Island—we have plenty of supplies here, and it’s much safer than outside,"

Tang Li thought Lin Fan was a capable young man who had survived thus far not by hiding on an island but through his own skills.

Survivors in these apocalyptic times were rare. If survivors could unite and grow stronger, there might be a real chance to last until the very end.

"Thank you for the invitation, Mr. Tang. I am the security guard of Sunshine District, and everyone here is living quite well, so we won’t disturb you," Lin Fan responded.

In Lin Fan’s view, this sort of communication was unproblematic. He was very happy living in Sunshine District, busy as it was, but this busyness brought him great contentment and unspeakable joy.

"Alright, if that’s the case, I won’t insist. I hope we can keep in touch in the future."

"Sure, no problem. Goodbye."

He hung up the phone.

Back at the manor.

Tang Li and his people had eradicated the zombies; there weren’t many of them, just a few, but with the high ground advantage and the walls for defense, it was hard for the zombies to break through with such low numbers.

"Dad, isn’t he really amazing?" Tang Jiayu said.

Tang Li responded, "Yes, indeed amazing. It’s hard to predict his capabilities, but his survival thus far speaks volumes. If not for transportation issues, I really would like to visit Sunshine District. As I see it, the apocalypse will last a long time, possibly very long. The former social systems will completely collapse, and the new systems that emerge will be diverse, shaped in the throes of battling zombies."

Tang Jiayu said, "So, the future currency isn’t money, gold, or diamonds anymore, but various supplies, right?"

Tang Li responded, "Exactly, it’s now all about supplies, especially food and medicine, which are the most precious because without production, the available supplies will only diminish. But, talking about this might be premature. For now, the manor’s supplies should last us a while. What’s most important is reinforcing the manor. We’re not just facing zombies, but other survivors too."

For Tang Li, as long as he could defend this island from zombie incursions, the path ahead was clear, though it was a shame that the wealth accumulated in the past was now of no use.
