Chapter 137: Chapter 083 Big Brother, I’m exceptionally useful, can you use me_2
It was only the first glance...
He frowned.
Lin Fan wasn’t one to judge by appearance, but the person before him had a face crisscrossed with scars as if etched by a knife, lines deeply cut across, and coupled with his dark skin, projected an imposing, if not a fearsome, demeanor.
Gu Hang squinted his eyes. He didn’t know what the survivors of the apocalypse had become, but he had a feeling—they were definitely not the kind to be trifled with.
Some survivors harbored evil intentions, while others could conceal themselves, appearing innocent when, in reality, they were just waiting for you to lower your guard.
He was a bit worried about Lin Fan.
He knew Lin Fan was well-intentioned, just too young, and feared he might be duped. It wasn’t that he would stand by and watch someone die; rather, he was unwilling to bring danger back to the district.
"Hello, can I help you?" Lin Fan asked with a smile.
His smile was merely a polite gesture.
Feng Weihong felt weirded out by Lin Fan’s sudden smile. Having just slaughtered a group of zombies, for him to be able to smile so calmly... Was there something wrong with his psyche?
That was a very real possibility.
But for someone so formidable, a touch of madness seemed quite fitting.
"I saw everything, everything that just happened. Big Brother, you’re truly amazing. Those zombies were no match for you. I’ve been hiding here for so long, scared to death."
Feng Weihong was much older than Lin Fan, old enough to double his age, but calling him "Big Brother" was a way of sucking up, aimed at giving Lin Fan a sense of superiority.
Lin Fan replied, "It’s not bad, just a little fierce."
Gu Hang whispered into Lin Fan’s ear, "We need to figure out who he is."
Lin Fan nodded, his gesture clearly signaling, I know what you’re worried about.
Feng Weihong eyed Gu Hang, wondering what the mumbles were about. Could it be worry that I might usurp his place next to this powerful figure, so he’s speaking ill of me?
Damn, this dog of a man, once I become the right-hand man to the boss, you’ll be the first I’ll get rid of.
Of course, he couldn’t let that show now; he had to act weak.
"Big Brother, could I come along with you? Outside, it’s full of those creatures. My supplies are running dangerously low, and it’s getting tough to make do. I may not look it, but I’m capable, I assure you. You’ll find me most helpful," Feng Weihong pleaded.
His attitude was servile.
Gu Hang was increasingly convinced that the man wasn’t one of the good guys.
Lin Fan gazed at him and asked softly, "Do you dare kill someone?"
Hearing this,
Feng Weihong hesitated, a flurry of excuses running through his mind. Was this a test of his courage?
It seemed highly likely.
Given Lin Fan’s brutal methods, slicing through zombies as though they were vegetables, he must be someone decisive and ruthless. To truly stick by his side, I’d have to be of the same temperament.
And by nature, I am.
"Big Brother, you’re really underselling me. Killing someone is just a minor thing to me. To be honest, I was once a top hitman. Not sure if you’ve heard of a guy, the Mad Wolf Dafu of Huang City? I was his enforcer; I did all sorts of jobs."
Feng Weihong boasted about his past glories.
It was his proudest moment.
Ferocious and dominant, as Mad Wolf Dafu’s top hitman, wherever he went, people had to pay their respects with a "Brother Feng." Those who didn’t would soon learn why the flowers were so red.
The reason he left was quite pitiful.
A bunch of teenage hoodlums, trying to climb the ranks and prove themselves, ganged up and ambushed him. A careless strike hit his groin, leaving him disabled for life.
This had led him to leave Dafu’s side and set up shop here.
Lin Fan whispered to Gu Hang.
"Crazy Wolf, who is Dafu?"
"It’s Mad Wolf, Wang Dafu."
"Oh, and who is he? Is he tough?"
"He was the leader of a criminal gang in Huang City, always lurking on the edge of legality, engaging in fights and brawls. He was a big fish there."
As Lin Fan listened to Gu Hang’s explanation,
He got the picture.
So, the guy’s a bad apple then.
With that, he had not the slightest interest in the man, nor any intention of renting out a place in Sunshine District. As the last part-time worker at Xinfeng Real Estate, his job wasn’t merely to rent out houses; more importantly, it was to be responsible for the existing residents.
Safety and friendliness were paramount.
He definitely couldn’t just let a strange bad guy in willy-nilly.
"Let’s go," said Lin Fan as he turned to leave.
Gu Hang knew that Lin Fan had his own plans.
But for Feng Weihong, standing there hoping for rescue, the sight of them about to leave threw him into a panic. He absolutely couldn’t stay put any longer. Without supplies, he’d be on a one-way street to death.
He was very interested in the current state of chaos.
Having once enjoyed the luxuries of serving under Mad Wolf Dafu, he knew that following this fearsome man—who could go toe-to-toe with zombies—was the optimal choice. Missing this chance would mean no more opportunities.
Suddenly,
He remembered something very important and wanted to angrily slap himself.
Why brag about past achievements? That was something anyone could puff up with words. And he had just seen that buzzcut man jabbering away to Lin Fan.
In his mind, there was only one thought.
This damn fool must surely have been spewing bad things about me, even imagining what Lin Fan might say—that I was bluffing. If I were really that good, would I be selling building materials here?
Upon this realization...
Feng Weihong was seething with rage.
