I Got Reincarnated as a Zombie Girl -
Chapter 127 – Simulated Battle
Chapter 127: Chapter 127 – Simulated Battle
Three days had passed since their first walk together as a couple. Time seemed to fly by in the peaceful yet subtly busy environment. The city Sylvia had built was slowly growing, and though its inhabitants were mostly zombies with a handful of humans, the tranquil atmosphere felt... almost like life before the world collapsed.
That morning, a cool breeze blew from the north, gently sweeping across the training yard surrounded by high walls and rows of gray trees. Morning sunlight pierced through the thin clouds, casting long shadows that danced on the stone floor.
At the edge of the training ground, Sylvia sat on a stone bench with her arms crossed, watching the only person who could make her stay still for so long: Sofia.
The girl’s recovery exercises had progressed much faster than expected, as if her body instinctively knew how important it was to heal quickly. She wore a white tank top and tight black leggings that clung to her figure. Sweat dampened her neck and stomach, forming thin trails that slid slowly along the curves of her body. Every movement revealed her determination and returning strength.
Haa... Haa...
Sofia was on her final set of one-handed push-ups. After that, she moved on to sit-ups, then to planks. Her movements were steady, even though her breathing had grown heavy. Under the morning sun, her body seemed to glow not from magic, but from a blazing spirit within.
Meanwhile, Sylvia simply sat and watched. She, too, wore a black tank top and similar leggings, but her cold undead body didn’t sweat. She didn’t even need to warm up or exercise.
As a Rank 4 zombie, her strength had already surpassed normal physical limits. She could lift over a ton with one hand. Doing push-ups or sit-ups would be like pressing into sand no challenge, no purpose. So watching Sofia stubbornly push herself to regain her strength had become its own form of entertainment.
After several sets, Sofia gently let herself fall to the ground, then sat down beside Sylvia. Her face was flushed from exhaustion, but also from the rising body heat. She grabbed a water bottle from the small bag near her feet and drank it in large gulps.
Gulp... gulp...
After drinking enough, she turned to find Sylvia staring at her without blinking.
That gaze... sharp and deep, but with a hint of interest, admiration... and something that made Sofia’s face flush even deeper.
"...Have you stared enough?" Sofia asked, avoiding direct eye contact, though a smile was hard to hide.
"Not yet," Sylvia answered flatly.
That simple response made Sofia sigh not from annoyance, but because... she didn’t know how to reply. Her chest, still pounding from the workout, now thudded even louder thanks to that gaze.
"...Then spar with me now," she said, standing up.
"Alright," Sylvia calmly nodded and stood as well.
The two walked to the center of the training ground, a practice area paved with stone and surrounded by a thin magical barrier to keep any combat effects contained. Though it was just training, they wouldn’t be holding back too much especially since Sofia wanted to test how far she had recovered.
Sofia grabbed her spear from the weapons rack at the edge of the arena. The long, silver-bladed weapon looked light in her hands, as if it were merely an extension of her own body. The sunlight reflected off the blade’s tip, glinting sharply.
Meanwhile, Sylvia simply raised her right hand.
CLANG!
From thin air, a black chain with a spear-like tip appeared, coiling like a vicious serpent waking from slumber. Though she had used it many times, Sylvia still didn’t fully understand where it came from. Another dimension? A part of her body? Or something more abstract?
One thing was certain the weapon was directly linked to her will.
Sofia took her stance, her legs low and spear gripped with both hands. Her breathing was steady, though her heartbeat slightly quickened.
"Are you ready?" Sylvia asked.
"Always," Sofia replied with a faint smile.
BOOM!
Sofia moved first, dashing forward at high speed. The tip of her spear shot straight toward Sylvia’s stomach a tactic meant to test her reaction.
CLANG!
Sylvia swung her chain with one hand, deflecting the strike. The sound of metal clashing echoed across the training yard.
Sofia didn’t back down. She twisted her body, leapt to the side, and tried attacking from a different angle. Sylvia didn’t move from her spot her chain alone was enough to block attacks from multiple directions.
But Sofia didn’t rely on strength alone. She counted on technique, agility, and wit.
As Sylvia’s chain lashed toward her, she dove low, sliding beneath it, then spun her spear to strike upward from below.
SWISH! Her spear brushed the edge of the retreating chain. DING!
Sylvia smiled. "Good. You’re getting faster."
"And you’re still just standing there. Annoying," Sofia grumbled.
Sylvia leapt backward, then slammed her chain into the ground. It smashed into the stone floor, leaving a small crater and scattering dust.
BOOOM!KRRAKK!
Sofia didn’t hesitate. She jumped high, then hurled her spear like a javelin toward Sylvia. The weapon spun rapidly through the air.
Sylvia raised her hand. The chain shot out, coiled around the spear mid-air, and flung it aside.
But Sofia was already behind her.
"Haahh...!"
With a sharp cry, she launched a spinning kick from behind, aimed at Sylvia’s head. But Sylvia ducked, then reflexively countered with a thrust of her chain toward Sofia’s stomach.
Sofia raised her arm and blocked the blow with the shaft of her spear, now back in her hands. Sylvia’s strength was tremendous, but Sofia held her ground longer than before.
A few minutes later, both stepped back and caught their breath. Though there were no serious injuries, Sofia’s body was once again drenched in sweat.
That simulated fight had lasted about ten minutes, enough to show that Sofia was back. Not as strong as before, but her determination was blazing.
"I want to make up for what I’ve lost," Sofia said between gasps.
"You’re hardly behind. And... you’re even more attractive when you’re serious," Sylvia said honestly.
Sofia turned her face away. "Stop saying things like that. I can’t focus."
"But you looked incredibly tempting while drinking water earlier," Sylvia replied flatly.
"SYLVIA!!"
Sylvia just laughed softly.
