Chapter 125 – Beneath the Gentle Light

Chapter 125: Chapter 125 – Beneath the Gentle Light

Morning light filtered through the thin curtains, filling the room with a soft, warm glow. Tiny specks of dust danced in the air, as if celebrating something important yet unspoken. On the large bed, Sofia still lay beneath a clean white blanket, while Sylvia sat beside her, their faces only inches apart.

Sofia remained silent. Her eyes, which had first looked at Sylvia with confusion, now brimmed with tears. Her gaze trembled, as if she couldn’t believe the world around her was real. A soft pink blush slowly crept up her cheeks, making her look like a flower blooming after a long winter.

"...Are you serious?" she whispered at last, barely audible. Her voice was so fragile, like a fine thread that could snap if touched too roughly.

I didn’t answer right away. I let the silence wrap around us, allowing both our hearts to beat loudly in a near-sacred stillness. My hand reached out slowly, gently touching Sofia’s fingers that rested atop the warm blanket.

"Yes," I finally said, my voice soft but unwavering. "I’m serious, Sofia. I have no reason to lie about something like this. Especially not to you."

Sofia looked down. Her golden hair fell messily over her shoulders, some strands covering her reddened face. She stared at their entwined hands, as if trying to make sure this wasn’t just a sweet illusion that would disappear when she woke up.

"...I didn’t think that... we loved each other," she said quietly. A shy but genuine smile slowly formed on her lips her face was already bright red, like a ripe tomato ready to be picked. Her gaze rose to meet Sylvia’s again, and this time there was no more doubt. Only warmth, and a fear that was slowly melting under the weight of sincerity.

I smiled too. "So... Sofia, does that mean we can be lovers now?"

The question lingered in the air. For a moment, the world felt completely still. Even the ticking of the clock on the wall seemed to slow, as if paying respect to the moment just unfolding.

Sofia looked into Sylvia’s eyes those violet eyes that once felt cold and distant, now holding a warmth that nearly burned. Then, slowly, she lowered her head and gave a small, bashful nod. "Mm..."

I said nothing. I simply leaned in, allowing myself to be drawn into that tender silence. My fingers gently brushed Sofia’s cheek. I saw her close her eyes, her body tensing slightly as if waiting... , waiting for something that could only happen between two hearts now laid bare.

Slowly, my lips began to move closer. The space between us was only a few centimeters. Our warm breaths mingled, creating a fragile bubble of intimacy on the verge of bursting

Knock! Knock! Knock!

A knock on the door broke the moment, as if the world itself refused to let us sink too deeply into each other.

"Sofia, I brought your breakfa...." Rina’s voice called out, and before she could get an answer, the door opened.

Rina stepped in with a tray in her hands, but immediately froze when she saw the scene before her. Sylvia and Sofia, so close their lips were almost touching. Rina’s eyes widened for a second, then curved into a mischievous smile.

"Oh! Sorry for interrupting~ Please, don’t mind me, hehe," she teased, then casually closed the door and disappeared, leaving behind a silence that now felt... awkward.

Sofia, already blushing, turned a deep crimson in an instant almost the shade of a pomegranate. With a panicked and embarrassed expression, she pushed Sylvia away with a flustered but gentle shove.

"RINA CAME IN!!" she shouted, her voice a mix of shame and slight frustration.

The door opened again. Rina appeared once more, this time with a straight face but her eyes still gleaming with mischief. "Yeah, yeah. I just brought breakfast. But if you two wanna have each other for breakfast instead, I won’t stop you," she said with a sly chuckle.

I glared at Rina as if ready to throw a pillow at her. "Out, Rina. Now."

"Whoa, scary~ Okay, Your Highness. I’m leaving," Rina replied, then finally disappeared for real.

Silence returned, but it was no longer sweet. Sofia pulled the blanket up until it nearly covered her whole face, leaving only her watery, embarrassed eyes peeking out.

"I-I can’t believe that just happened... that was so embarrassing..." she mumbled from under the covers.

I could only grin. "You know... I can’t believe Rina ruined our romantic moment either."

"Don’t say that! I... I was... I..." Sofia couldn’t finish. She simply rolled to the side, her face still hidden beneath the warm white cloth.

Sylvia let out a soft sigh, then slowly lay down beside her, though without touching. "If you’re embarrassed... that’s okay. I’ll wait."

Sofia peeked out a little from under the blanket, just her eyes visible. "How long?"

"As long as you need."

Those words made Sofia fall silent. Then slowly, very slowly, she crawled closer, like a shy little bunny starting to trust her protector. She leaned on Sylvia’s shoulder, still half-covered, and whispered softly, "...Then don’t leave yet, okay?"

I nodded. "I won’t."

They stayed like that for several minutes. Outside, the morning sun continued to shine down on a broken world. But inside that room, two wounded hearts had begun to mend, nurtured by the seed of love, growing beneath the gentle light.

And though their kiss had failed, nothing truly felt lost. Because love itself had already been spoken, planted deep, and would grow... slowly, but surely.

Sofia was still leaning against my shoulder, secretly taking deep breaths. Even though most of her face was hidden beneath the blanket, I knew she hadn’t truly calmed down. Her heart was still pounding, and her small body occasionally shifted with nervous energy.

My eyes flicked toward the small table near the door where Rina had placed the breakfast tray before "disappearing." I let out a soft sigh and slowly got up from the side of the bed.

"Eh? Where are you going?" Sofia asked quietly, her voice still wrapped in embarrassment.

I turned and smiled at her. "Don’t worry. I’m just getting breakfast. You haven’t eaten since last night, right?"

She gave a small nod from under the blanket, then hid her face again.

I picked up the tray, which held a bowl of warm porridge, two slices of bread with fruit jam, and a still-steaming cup of tea. The aroma of cinnamon and honey drifted gently from the bowl, making even my own stomach flutter a little.

Returning to the bedside, I sat down carefully and placed the tray on my lap.

"You have to eat, Sofia," I said softly. "Your strength isn’t fully back yet."

She only murmured from under the blanket, then peeked out a little. Her gaze was hesitant, but her eyes couldn’t hide the quiet hunger starting to surface.

I took the spoon, dipped it into the warm porridge, and held it toward her partially hidden lips.

"Open up, sweetheart," I said with a teasing smile.

"I-I can feed myself!" she quickly protested, cheeks turning red again.

"Of course you can. But I want to feed you," I replied gently. "Think of it as... a morning bonus from your new girlfriend."

Sofia’s face, which had already been red, now looked like it might explode. She stared at me for a moment, perhaps hoping I’d back down. But I simply gazed back, patient and full of affection.

Finally, with stiff movements like a robot, she parted her lips slightly. I smiled and fed her the spoonful slowly. The warm steam from the porridge brushed her lips first, and then the spoon slid gently into her small mouth.

"Mmhh..." she murmured.

I let out a small laugh at her adorable expression.

Sofia turned her face away, trying to hide the smile she couldn’t suppress. But I saw it. Even when she tried hard to stay serious, that small smile still stole its place.

I fed her another spoonful. This time, she didn’t protest. In fact, she slowly began to open her mouth before I could offer the spoon. Each bite went smoothly, but my heart warmed each time her golden eyes glanced at me softly, even if only briefly.

Now and then, I wiped the corners of her lips with my fingertip just to see her panicked reaction, which was irresistibly cute. She couldn’t hide how unaccustomed she was to being treated like this.

Once the porridge was nearly gone, I picked up the cup of herbal tea, blew on it gently, and handed it to her. Sofia took it with both hands and sipped slowly.

"Hmh... warm... and sweet..." she whispered.

"Just like our relationship?" I teased.

She shot me a sharp look, then turned away. "Stop being cheesy..."

But her tone didn’t hide the joy she felt. She hugged the cup closer to her chest, as if trying to hold all the warmth of the morning inside her heart.

I just watched her, silently memorizing every expression she made. How easily she shifted from shy to annoyed, from flustered to soft and affectionate. Sofia was complicated. But maybe that’s exactly why I love her.

After breakfast, I tidied the tray and placed it back on the small table. When I returned to the bedside, Sofia was already sitting upright against the pillows, still wrapped in the blanket. Her blonde hair was slightly messy, but that only made her look more human... and more beautiful.

She gazed at me deeply. No words were needed. Only eyes speaking.

I sat at the edge of the bed, looking back into her eyes. "Do you feel better now?"

She nodded slowly. "More than better..."

I smiled, then reached out my hand. "In that case, how about a little walk this evening? You need some fresh air."

Sofia thought for a moment, then smiled and touched my hand. "If it’s with you... maybe I’d like that."
