Chapter 335: Hospitality
Chapter 335: Chapter 335: Hospitality
North of the lake was a desolate land, nothing but overgrown weeds and barren ground where not even a blade of grass grew.
"Could it really be, as Liao Xuexue said, a land forsaken by all?" Ye Chen pondered over the empty land for a moment before shifting his gaze away.
Ye Chen turned to leave the edge of the lake but then halted his steps.
"Ye Chen brother, what’s wrong?" Liao Xuexue asked with a puzzled expression as she watched Ye Chen suddenly stop.
Ye Chen glanced at Liao Xuexue, then reached out with his right hand and scratched his head.
"Ye Chen brother, what’s the matter? Are you feeling uncomfortable?" Seeing Ye Chen’s unusual demeanor, Liao Xuexue asked with concern.
"It’s nothing, I was just thinking about something." Ye Chen shook his head.
Liao Xuexue pursed her lips, didn’t ask further, and linked arms with Ye Chen, leading him forward.
Around twenty minutes later, the two arrived at the park.
Many people were playing in the park, most of them young men and women, laughing and chatting in a harmonious atmosphere.
"Ye Chen brother, there are fish in the lake! I want to fish," Liao Xuexue said, her attention caught by the nearby lake.
Ye Chen followed Liao Xuexue’s pointing finger, seeing at the lake’s center a whirlpool with fish gathered around, leaping and frolicking—a magnificent sight.
"Alright." Witnessing the scene, Ye Chen nodded slightly and walked slowly with Liao Xuexue toward it.
At the lakeside, Liao Xuexue took out fishing gear and a rod, and playfully said, "Ye Chen brother, let me tell you about my fishing stories."
"Go ahead, I’m listening." Ye Chen nodded and sat down on a stone bench, listening with interest.
Liao Xuexue bit her lip, then said, "When I was young, I often tried to catch fish in the lake, but sadly, I hardly caught any. Later, I secretly slipped out to buy fishing bait and a rod to fish on my own."
She paused, then with a playful smile continued, "Sadly, I’m just bad luck. Every time I only managed to catch one."
Hearing this, the corners of Ye Chen’s mouth twitched.
Seeing the amused look on Ye Chen’s face, Liao Xuexue stuck out her pink tongue, giggling, "Ye Chen brother, how about we have a competition today? Let’s see who catches more, and the loser treats."
Ye Chen rubbed his nose, laughing, "Sure, no problem."
"Hehe, if I win, don’t think I’ll let you call me ’Dad’," Liao Xuexue said playfully, winking.
Ye Chen rolled his eyes, replied irritably, "You’d have to win to say that."
"Hehe, just you wait."
Liao Xuexue said, casting the fishing hook into the water.
Ye Chen gave a faint smile, quietly watching Liao Xuexue fish.
Liao Xuexue fished for a long time without catching even a hair, her forehead beading with sweat, looking quite dejected.
After another half hour, lacking the strength to continue, she flung the hook back into the water and huffed, "No more fishing, it’s killing me."
Ye Chen shook his head subtly, took out a tissue to wipe Liao Xuexue’s sweat, and gently said, "Your constitution is weak; it’s not suitable for you to fish for long periods. How about this, you go rest for a while, and I’ll take over the fishing."
"Really?" Upon hearing this, Liao Xuexue was overjoyed, hugging Ye Chen like a child, kissed his handsome cheek, and cooed, "Ye Chen brother, thank you."
"Heh, no need to be formal with me," Ye Chen said indulgently, patting Liao Xuexue’s head, then sat on the stone bench by the lake, quietly gazing at the water’s surface.
"Wow, Ye Chen brother, the environment here is too good, the air is fresh and clear, it’s my favorite." Looking at the azure lake, Liao Xuexue enjoyed it with a beaming face and couldn’t help but exclaim.
Ye Chen smiled, not minding Liao Xuexue, his gaze never left the lake.
"Ye Chen brother, what are you looking at?" Seeing Ye Chen staring at the lake, Liao Xuexue approached and asked curiously.
Ye Chen remained silent, squinting his eyes slightly, a hint of worry lurking in his brow, because he noticed that the placid lake had started rippling, the ripples growing bigger and eventually turning into waves that swept across the whole lake.
"Eh? This lake... why is it so unusual?" Liao Xuexue’s brows furrowed into a frown, and before she could finish her sentence, she suddenly covered her mouth because she sensed something was off.
Plop!
Sure enough, as soon as her words fell, the lake water violently rippled, and with a splashing sound, a huge shadow surged up from the bottom of the lake.
On closer inspection, it was a big carp, about fifty to sixty centimeters long, pitch black and radiating a chilling glint. It broke the water’s surface and flapped continuously.
Bang!
In a flash, Ye Chen leaped forward, positioning himself in front of Liao Xuexue.
The black carp, in pain, screamed pitifully and struggled in the water.
Ye Chen sneered in disdain, grabbing the black carp with one hand and returned to the shore.
On this outing, Ye Chen and Liao Xuexue had caught plenty of fish, which could be said to be a bountiful harvest.
After the two had gathered the fish, Liao Xuexue said to Ye Chen: "Ye Chen bro, let’s head back. You can stay at my place today, I’ll treat you well."
Ye Chen nodded and replied, "Alright, I was just about to visit your grandfather and have a couple of drinks with him."
Ye Chen had made plans to drink with old Liao during yesterday’s fishing competition, so now was the perfect time to find him.
Hearing this, a sweet smile appeared on Liao Xuexue’s face as she said, "Mm. Let’s go then!"
And so, the two of them took a car back.
...
After returning to the village, old Liao was holding a small bucket, filling it with water.
"Ye Chen, you’re finally here! Come over and have a drink," old Liao hurriedly called as soon as he saw Ye Chen.
Ye Chen glanced at the small bucket in old Liao’s hand, his eyes slightly squinting.
Because he felt something extraordinary from the small bucket in old Liao’s hand, it clearly contained many fine things.
"Grandpa Liao, you’re really willing to part with such good things to treat me?" Ye Chen asked with a smiling tone.
Hearing this, old Liao laughed heartily and said, "Ye Chen, as long as you’re happy, everything is worth it!"
"Haha! Grandpa Liao is truly generous! Then I’ll accept with great respect!" Ye Chen laughed loudly and then walked toward the house.
After entering the room, Ye Chen was surprised to see the delicious dishes already prepared on the table.
Although he was used to eating exotic delicacies, the dishes on the table were very exquisite and tasty.
Moreover, every ingredient was exceptionally aged, even of state banquet level.
"Grandpa Liao, how were these dishes prepared? I haven’t seen them in ordinary times?" Ye Chen asked in confusion.
Liao Xuexue chuckled and then pointed to the wooden bucket next to her and said, "The soup here is made by me."
