Chapter 87: Chapter 77: Who Would Take on Such a Meager Bounty?
The building collapsed, dust and debris billowing forth, chaos erupting everywhere.
But Gu Shanhai remained utterly unaffected, strolling leisurely through the ruins.
"Ptui! Where the hell did this ruthless bastard come from, blowing up the building like that? Where’d he get so many explosives? It can’t be a life skill... right... bro, let’s talk this out," Man Yue crawled out from the rubble, cursing as he emerged, then saw a shadow blocking the light and could only speak with resignation.
"You want to kill me, yet expect me to talk nicely with you, don’t you think that’s a bit much?" Gu Shanhai looked at the other’s game ID, then yanked him out of the mess.
"Cough, well, Fengxue Pavilion put a bounty on your head in the forum. Killing you and showing a screenshot can earn one hundred yuan," Man Yue said somewhat grudgingly.
"Did they mention that I could disable someone’s ID?" Gu Shanhai’s tone was calm, but his words made Man Yue shudder.
"Bro, it’s just dying once, no big deal, I’ll split it with you, we can both profit from Fengxue Pavilion’s money," Man Yue hurriedly added.
"The First Epoch" was not a game where you could delete your account and start over; if your ID was disabled, you really had no choice but to quit the game, and he had seen how the people from Fengxue Pavilion ended up.
Usually, disbanding an account wouldn’t be an issue, but their outward appearances had changed, and NPCs wouldn’t even bother with them anymore.
Moreover, it was rumored that Fengxue Pavilion had been abandoned by their financial backers because of this incident, leaving the Fengxue Pavilion gaming club on the brink of bankruptcy and even in significant debt—all of which was too much to swallow for anyone.
"Half? Heh, didn’t Fengxue Pavilion reveal that I’m a rich second-gen? I’m not lacking money, nor do I start trouble, but you’ve crossed the line with me. How do you think I should disable your ID?" Gu Shanhai didn’t care for these matters; if you wanted to kill me, the NPCs are killed, the players’ IDs are disabled.
"F*ck, that’s not necessary, let’s just agree that Fengxue Pavilion is the root cause. We’re all just here to play the game, no need to make mortal enemies," Man Yue complained, wishing he could leave right away if not for Gu Shanhai holding him back.
"That’s right, there indeed is no need to make mortal enemies. Hand over all the items and equipment in your inventory, I’ll pick a few, and then we can consider this matter settled," Gu Shanhai seemed willing to let it go.
Hmm, seemed only, because actually killing him wasn’t really nice; better to take all his belongings first, then disable his account and kill him.
You come to kill me, why shouldn’t I retaliate?
"That’s too much, I... fine..." Man Yue wanted to say something to refuse, but upon seeing Gu Shanhai pull out a syringe, he recognized it—there were screenshots on the forums, one prick was enough to disable.
Between his in-game inventory and his account, he knew which to choose.
So, he unwillingly brought out a few guns, bullets, and other equipment and items.
"Is this all? Are you messing with me? Based on the shot you took earlier, you obviously have a sniper rifle, and you’re trying to fool me with a pistol? Also, this little stuff is not worth the power you showed with that shot."
"I gave you a chance, but if you’re playing dumb, there’s nothing I can do."
Gu Shanhai could tell at a glance that these items looked abundant, but they barely had any weight and weren’t worth much; a bunch could be bought with some in-game currency.
"Wait, there’s more, there’s more," Man Yue started to panic. He had indeed brought out a bunch of junk, mainly to show goodwill and then call it even.
He hadn’t expected Gu Shanhai to be so relentless, which made him regret acting in the first place. He didn’t earn Fengxue Pavilion’s hundred yuan, and now he had to pay out instead.
If Gu Shanhai wasn’t satisfied, his ID would truly be wasted.
So, he had no choice but to painfully bring out some quality goods.
Gu Shanhai, however, didn’t say a word, and the other party realizing this also knew it wasn’t enough.
But to give more would really hurt, so he could only look at Gu Shanhai with resignation.
"Is that it? Can’t you take this more seriously? I’m extorting you right now, and you’re trying to bargain with me, is that really okay?" Gu Shanhai was finding it hard to hold back.
Because this was all happening in the game, most players lacked much awe of others; it was just that Gu Shanhai could disable IDs. Otherwise, who knows how they would have cursed at Gu Shanhai.
Those who came to kill for the bounty certainly weren’t the lawful good sort.
"I’ve already given a lot, why are you still so aggressive? Fengxue Pavilion is the one who put up the bounty, why are you making it hard for me, a regular player?" Man Yue grew indignant: "If you dare, go after Fengxue Pavilion. Bullying me, what does that solve?"
"Have you ever considered one thing? If you hadn’t come to kill me, this wouldn’t have happened," Gu Shanhai responded exasperatedly—this guy really had no shame.
"So what if I killed you? You’re so rich, just think of dying once as a charitable deed," Man Yue got choked by Gu Shanhai’s words but still stubbornly argued on.
"That makes a lot of sense, so you donate everything in your inventory to me, and then I’ll die once so you can claim Fengxue Pavilion’s bounty. That would be your good deed, right? We should help each other out; it can’t always be just me giving, unless—you wouldn’t happen to be the legendary ’double-standards social justice warrior,’ would you?" Gu Shanhai struck back fiercely.
"..." Man Yue was speechless; Gu Shanhai was clearly a high-level player, yet he was being so stingy.
