Chapter 57: Multiple Superpowers Awakening Plan

Chapter 57: Chapter 57: Multiple Superpowers Awakening Plan

"What’s going on?" Gu Shanhai, who was practicing, heard the sound of an ambulance outside, which puzzled him.

He stuck his head out for a look and it seemed that something had happened on the street corner.

Eyeing the location, it was the area where he had sensed malice earlier in the day. Living on the eighteenth floor, he could just about make out some of what was happening.

The ambulance quickly drove past, dispersed the crowd, and then took someone away. Gu Shanhai was not clear on the specifics.

However, he was sure that it must have been an outbreak of malice.

"I’ll have to take a different route tomorrow," Gu Shanhai thought to himself. He wasn’t one to provoke conflicts, and there were other routes to the library, so there was no need to clash with the other party.

In the absence of any benefits, he did not intend to engage in fighting with anyone. It wasn’t worth it.

After completing his practice for the day, Gu Shanhai stretched his body. Now he could only enhance his mana and perception since his physical condition had ceased to improve because his Golden Bell Shield Iron Cloth Shirt and Child Skill had reached their maximum levels.

"Ah, there hasn’t been much progress with the ability core fragments. It’s really headache-inducing," Gu Shanhai, initially confident, now felt disheartened.

He had experimented many times, and most ended in genetic collapse, but he was certain it could be achieved. In his previous life, he had successfully guided an un-digitized test subject to acquire abilities, which indicated there were solutions available.

Of course, it might be because he was too greedy.

After obtaining the ability core fragments, his experiments were not merely about awakening a single life-enhancing ability but multiple abilities. Perhaps this explained his continuous failures.

He was now continuously reducing the number of abilities. At first, he had been ambitious, wanting to awaken all the fundamental abilities and some personal assistive abilities, but he soon realized this was impossible.

He took out his experimental records and began to reassess, crossing off a large number of fundamental abilities. Eventually, only four fundamental abilities and one affinity ability remained on the experiment record.

"Life enhancement, Physique enhancement, Energy enhancement, Perception enhancement."

"And Plant Affinity."

These were the five abilities he was interested in. From the data calculations, even without conducting experiments, he knew it was impossible to succeed.

After hesitating for a while, he crossed off Plant Affinity as well. Although it was regrettable, he knew that in the upcoming higher-tier world, he could acquire similar or even superior corresponding abilities. While having Plant Affinity would be icing on the cake, he preferred to provide more substantial help.

He then emphasized Life Enhancement, implying if the multi-ability approach failed, the remaining three fundamental abilities would have to be abandoned.

After all, this ability was crucial for his further strategies.

"Let’s carry out the experiment with the four fundamental abilities first; if it still fails, I’ll have to reduce them further."

"And... I’m running low on materials."

Gu Shanhai frowned. These experiments were very resource-intensive, requiring not only the ability core fragments and his own blood genetics but also substantial materials. Otherwise, conducting the experiments would seem too easy.

He was crafting an ability awakening potion, which naturally required a large amount of neutralizing and mediating materials. These materials were expensive, and although he could afford them, the sources were somewhat problematic.

Gu Shanhai, without an identity and considered unregistered, would have had to ’borrow’ laboratories from universities or hospitals if not for the resources from his past life and the materials in his portable laboratory.

"After a potential failure of the four-ability experiment, I’ll pause the experiments and then capture some ability bearers as reference standards," Gu Shanhai decided to pause for the time being.

And indeed, choosing among three abilities would be a challenging decision.

He wasn’t very confident about any of the three abilities. Without the digitization and revival from "The First Epoch," he dared not act recklessly.

All materials and procedures were ready. As the experiment started, Gu Shanhai felt a bit nervous.

After witnessing the collapse of the flesh, Gu Shanhai’s heart sank; the four-ability experiment had failed.

"If the Shugges Lord were still around, perhaps he could have offered a solution. My amateur flesh technology is far too inferior." Gu Shanhai sighed and began to clean up the aftermath.

For him, it was a tremendous challenge, partly due to technological bottlenecks and partly because his knowledge storage was insufficient.

If it were him from the latter part of "The First Epoch" version three, he could have easily passed the experiment, possibly even awakening all abilities.

But for him now, without inherited knowledge, such abilities were out of reach.

As for bringing back corresponding data to directly create, that was impossible; the sheer volume of data would overwhelm the various pieces of information and knowledge he had brought back.

Creating abilities, although challenging, wasn’t unsolvable, and there was no need to waste his resources for a shortcut in time.

For him, this process was as much about understanding his own abilities as understanding himself. If he solely relied on direct data transfer for convenience and skipped the process, he would still need to spend time understanding and adapting later, which wouldn’t save much time.

Moreover, he had a safety net. As long as he wasn’t greedy, he could probably awaken the Life Enhancement ability potion now, but now that he had obtained the ability core fragment, he felt somewhat reluctant. In his past life, he had never imagined he would acquire such an item.

It was a pleasant surprise induced by the butterfly effect.

In the first version of "The First Epoch," no one would have refused the action of digitization, which naturally led to changes.

After cleaning up, Gu Shanhai left his portable laboratory, ready to rest properly.

His energy was indeed more vigorous than average, but even his brain couldn’t handle constant high-level activity without rest; otherwise, he wouldn’t be spirited enough to read in the library the next day.

"I wonder when I’ll be able to operate 24/7."

For such intensive study and work, to operate around the clock, he would at least need to reach around grade A with life enhancement, or become even stronger.

Otherwise, he shouldn’t think about running non-stop for now, because it truly could be fatal. He had a high degree of control over his body; with the perception from Qi Refining Second Level, he had already achieved abilities like introspection, night vision, and thermal sensing, just the precision needed further improvement.
