Chapter 441: Chapter 246: Hero Number Three in the Basement_2
"Maybe there’s something else hidden, we’ll know if we go check it out," Gu Shanhai was also curious about the developments of this world. Most of the information he had gathered was likely beautified by the Queen of the Holy Kingdom. The mainstream idea now is that the heroes are the true culprits, and the Demon King is the embodiment of true kindness and beauty.
But then again, the idea of "looks defining beliefs" isn’t uncommon, Gu Shanhai had noticed. In ordinary people’s eyes, the Demon King and the Witch indeed looked impressive, and they were really bold in dispensing benefits.
Gu Shanhai even suspected that the entire race of the Demon King Army might be succubi, they really knew how to play the game.
The two quickly arrived at the place where the hero was confined, a highly secure underground prison with an abundance of magical equipment to seal it and ensure the hero could not escape.
Unfortunately, such measures were practically non-existent for Gu Shanhai and Chu Zhen.
Before they even approached the room where the hero was confined, they heard moans of pleasure mixed with weak curses.
"Is something wrong?" Chu Zhen asked, slightly exhilarated.
"Yeah, don’t play dumb, let’s just go see," Gu Shanhai said a bit exasperatedly, this young guy surely hadn’t experienced things like this before.
So, the two found a spot to peep through and witnessed a shocking scene.
"Holy shit, how is that hero only level 1?" Chu Zhen exclaimed with disbelief, forgetting the scenes capable of causing error 404 due to shock.
"He’s been turned into a human battery, drained every day, it’s really sad," Gu Shanhai observed the scene and was slightly surprised but also confirmed that indeed they were similar to succubi.
They first let the hero gain experience and level up, then through certain 404-like methods, they extracted power from the hero to enhance their own strength.
Though the process was slow, it allowed them to break through existing limits.
Heroes, unlike the native residents, who could level up just by fighting monsters, became an almost infinite energy source for these succubi.
Soon, the succubi left thoroughly satisfied, glowing with a red aura.
Leaving behind only the extremely weak hero, waiting to recover.
Then the dungeon was shut once again.
"Hello, we’re from the Reincarnator Alliance, and we want to ask what exactly happened in Hero Continent, how did a hero end up like this," Gu Shanhai approached with Chu Zhen, first casting a healing spell to prevent the hero from being too weak to speak.
After receiving the healing, the hero barely lifted his eyelids to look at the two figures.
"Are you... also heroes?" The hero asked hoarsely after seeing that Gu Shanhai and the other person were men.
"Yes, we came from another Hero Continent, originally thinking of helping you, but instead we found you like this. Would you mind telling us what happened?" Gu Shanhai didn’t beat around the bush and asked directly.
Chu Zhen helped by undoing the restraints and casting a healing spell to aid recovery.
The hero started to introduce himself, his name was Liu Lai, and he had reincarnated here due to electrocution while playing a game.
Compared to Chu Zhen, Liu Lai was more self-deprecating and kinder. He came with the intent of saving the world, then got betrayed by the nobles, tricked by civilians, all of which he took without complaints, until the princess trapped him in this dungeon to be ’juiced.’
The current Queen, formerly the princess, wasn’t actually the true Demon King. The real Demon King had already been defeated by him, and the Queen had only inherited a fraction of the Demon King’s powers, and now her race wasn’t human but among the Demon Clan, specifically a succubus.
Liu Lai thought if he had just died, it would all be over, but the problem was that he hadn’t died. Ironically, it was Liu Lai who had captured her alive, therefore, given the noble lineage and legitimacy considerations, the so-called public trial was merely a formality, and to settle the matter of such a powerful foreign hero, a consensus was reached.
At the public trial, the troubled ones turned into heroes.
Liu Lai wanted to resist, but under the double scheming of succubi and nobles, he was drained back to level 1, without any strength to resist further, and was thrown into a dungeon to be drained again.
He had been drained for over three years, originally a chubby young boy, now turned into skin and bones.
Hearing this, Gu Shanhai and Chu Zhen also fell silent.
"Brother, you’ve had a rough time," Chu Zhen could only console, "But we are not much different..."
Chu Zhen brief Liu Lai on the treatment he and Gu Shanhai received.
Hearing that everyone as heroes received the same treatment, Liu Lai’s eyes sparkled with ferocity, "If it were me, not a single person on the Hero Continent would be left alive!"
After these experiences, Liu Lai had long turned dark.
"Your personality is too extreme, I’m hesitant whether to recruit you into the Reincarnator Alliance," Gu Shanhai suddenly spoke; though he said this, his heart was brimming with joy.
"Uncle Gu, Liu..." Chu Zhen tried to speak but was interrupted by Gu Shanhai.
"I need your assurance that you won’t harm other Reincarnators who mean you no harm. Can you manage that?" Gu Shanhai spoke, and then added, "As for the Hero Continent, we do not care about it."
Liu Lai revealed a fierce smile, "Of course there’s no problem. I will fulfill my duties to help other Reincarnators. After all, without you, I’d still be suffering!"
His words were heartfelt; Liu Lai hated the Holy Kingdom and the Hero Continent, not the Reincarnator Alliance that came to save him. He knew the grudge and was grateful for the sliver of light in the darkness.
"Uncle, what if the Demon King is dead? How will Liu Lai merge with the Demon King then? Do we still have to wait?" Chu Zhen asked somewhat anxiously.
Liu Lai was already aware of the predicaments of Gu Shanhai and others, having discussed it before, the necessity to merge with the Demon King to advance to other Hero Continents.
The Demon King of this Hero Continent had not yet reincarnated, so he was nowhere to be found.
"It’s indeed a bit troublesome, but there are still solutions," Gu Shanhai stroked his chin, pondering. The Demon King always existed after all, since the Demonic Qi, which is the Demon King, was continuously transported from the main world to the sub-worlds. So, with a little finesse, it could be gathered faster.
"Do you want revenge on those succubi?" Gu Shanhai asked.
"Yes, of course, I dream of it," Liu Lai’s hatred was nearly palpable.
"Do you remember how many succubi there were?" Gu Shanhai continued.
"With Bi-chi included, there were thirteen in total. These thirteen succubi were either princesses or daughters of noble families, that’s why I captured them alive; otherwise, I would have killed them long ago," Liu Lai responded without hesitation.
"I can lock them inside your body, using the succubi as a conduit to attract Demonic Qi, thus remaking the Demon King. Then, you can merge with the Demon King and ensure the thirteen succubi remain alive. As for what comes after..." Gu Shanhai didn’t finish, leaving the implication hanging.
This was also a way for Gu Shanhai to win hearts.
"Thank you, Uncle Gu. Once I recover, any command from you, Uncle Gu, and I, Liu Lai, will face it without flinching even if it means climbing mountains of swords or plunging into seas of fire!" Hearing this, Liu Lai’s face was filled with excitement.
Though darkened, his experiences and handling of affairs had not improved much; such mettle must be tempered with experience. Once betrayed, Liu Lai had been confined to the dungeon, utterly deprived of any chance to gain such experience.
"No need for commands, just remember to help more Reincarnators in the future. You know, the enemies we have to face are incredibly powerful. We must unite, otherwise, encounters with the Goddess one day might see us back in our weaker days." Gu Shanhai was not foolish, knowing when to motivate and invigorate, speaking of higher virtues.
