Chapter 437: Chapter 244: The Second Hero Hangs on the City Gate_2
"No, no, this isn’t right. Even the arrogant wouldn’t dare to do this," Gu Shanhai quickly noticed something amiss.
"The City Guard close to Chu Zhen have been infected by Demonic Qi!"
As he delved deeper into his investigation, Gu Shanhai detected an inexplicable change in the emotions of the City Guard.
Originally, the City Guard Commander had intercepted Chu Zhen due to Demonic Qi, but upon coming into contact with the Demonic Qi emanating from Chu Zhen, it affected their emotions and spirit, amplifying them.
The amplification seemed to be arrogance, giving rise to the idea of humiliation, which they then carried out.
Under normal circumstances, Demonic Qi wouldn’t cause such a situation, but the Demonic Qi from Chu Zhen was not ordinary; it was the purest negativity of the world, not the failed experimental Demonic Qi found within members of the Demon King Army.
This pure Demonic Qi is only present within the Demon King and typically would not leak out. It only disperses upon the Demon King’s death and is promptly purified by the Hero’s mechanism, akin to a garbage incineration process.
Now, it was different. The Demonic Qi within Chu Zhen was that of an entire Demon King. There was supposed to be no issue when he used members of the Demon King Army as training fodder, slaughtering demon slimes. Inevitably, he absorbed Demonic Qi, which was a part of the experience.
As a result, the already brimming Demonic Qi... spilled out.
Luckily, his level wasn’t high, so the impact was limited. Had he been level 100, the entire Royal Capital would have been unavoidable chaos.
At this moment, Gu Shanhai was also deep in thought, wondering if he had been short-changed back then. Had he only plundered wealth without personally slaughtering the entire Demon King Army?
The part of the Hero Continent he now found himself in had long since been laid bare. Those Demon King Army and the allied foreign races had been dealt with by bee-like genetically modified creatures after Gu Shanhai had extracted all their value.
As a gallant champion of justice, one must distinguish clearly between gratitude and grudges. Since these people were his enemies, how could Gu Shanhai possibly let them go? He’d have to take them down with him upon leaving, otherwise, he would not rest easy.
"Alright, we’ll talk about these matters later. Should I rescue him first? Now I am truly exposed. What if these people have another brain spasm and arrange some novel performance?" Gu Shanhai commented sarcastically but still decided to save the day.
Just in time to throw a lifeline.
He didn’t even need to act personally. From a distance, with a flick of his sleeve, he drew the person into his sleeve. After casually clothing him, Gu Shanhai then released the person.
"What’s going on with you? How long have I been gone, and you’re already strung up..." Gu Shanhai feigned ignorance.
At that moment, Chu Zhen’s eyes were filled with hatred: "Those bastards, they stopped me at the city gates, attacked without reason, they are clearly targeting me."
"Calm down first. It’s normal for them to target a hero. I’ve been backstabbed and nearly lost my life. If not for merging with the Demon King, I would have died. Your situation is trivial in comparison."
"But speaking of it, these people really are audacious. At least in the early stages, the nobility of the Hero Continent I was on would at least show respect on the surface. The nobility of this Hero Continent really doesn’t hold back in offending you to death."
Gu Shanhai spoke calmly, but in reality, he was furiously stoking the fire, fearful that Chu Zhen had not understood he had been deceived.
"Uncle, I want to take revenge!" Chu Zhen’s tone was filled with anger. After all, Chu Zhen was only eighteen or nineteen years old at most, just at university age. In most people’s eyes, he was still just a big kid.
"I’ll help you. They’ve gone too far this time. I had you train by yourself previously not only because I was genuinely busy but also because I wanted to enhance your combat abilities. After all, slimes couldn’t pose much of a threat to you. I just didn’t expect something like this to happen, and much less so soon that I couldn’t make it back in time," Gu Shanhai said with a sigh.
He shirked the responsibility completely, posing as a nice person, unlike a moment earlier when he nearly laughed out loud watching Chu Zhen get stripped in the corner.
"However, I’ve noticed that your attributes seem to be higher than mine; strange, isn’t it?" Gu Shanhai said, feigning confusion.
"What?" Chu Zhen also suppressed his rage. His values were relatively upright, and he knew who to take his issues up with.
He wasn’t affected because he had the protection of the Hero Panel, which prevented his spirit and soul from being attacked by the Demonic Qi. Hence, there was no amplification of his own negative emotions.
As for anger, that was normal. Any normal person who was stripped and hung up on the city gate would feel rage. If they didn’t, Gu Shanhai would have suspected that they had some peculiar fetish.
"If you don’t mind, show me your attribute panel," Gu Shanhai said.
Without any objection, Chu Zhen projected his Hero Panel.
"Indeed, your attributes at LV3 are fifteen points higher than mine were at LV3. That means each of your attributes is three points higher than mine," Gu Shanhai said gravely.
"Could there be some problem?" Seeing Gu Shanhai’s serious expression, Chu Zhen got a bit anxious. Shouldn’t this be a good thing?
"Do you think there’s any other difference between you and me besides our levels and abilities?" asked Gu Shanhai.
Hearing this, Chu Zhen felt puzzled and tentatively replied, "Are we from different parts of the Hero Continent?"
"How could that be? I’m talking about the leveling process. I was already at the max level when I fused with the Demon King. I had eradicated the Demon King City and the Demon King Army."
"While you fused with the Demon King at LV1 and when you fight monsters, you mostly encounter demonic creatures."
"So, I’m guessing that if your leveling targets are the Demon King Army, then it might imply you can gain extra attribute points through the Demon King template. When you reach max level, your attributes might triple instead of just doubling."
Gu Shanhai offered his plausible hypothesis.
"Uncle, do you mean I’m reclaiming the power the Demon King left scattered outside?" Chu Zhen quickly grasped Gu Shanhai’s point.
"Exactly. So if you want revenge, you could wait until you’ve reached max level before coming back. Wouldn’t it feel even better to take revenge personally?" Gu Shanhai suggested enticingly.
"I understand. I won’t act rashly," Chu Zhen acknowledged. He realized that Gu Shanhai was advising him to focus on leveling up against the Demon King Army. With tripled attributes, he could take revenge on whoever he wanted.
Having experienced the recent humiliation, Chu Zhen fully understood the malice of this other world towards him. Just for some inexplicable reason, others could do whatever they wanted to him without the power to strike back, which was just idle talk.
No wonder Gu Shanhai chose to form the Reincarnator Alliance. Despite his current strength, he couldn’t oppose the Goddess that reincarnated them. Therefore, he needed to unite all the unfortunate reincarnated heroes to have enough power to resist.
"It’s good that you understand. I’ll take you monster slaying, the old rule applies. I won’t help you. I’m here to develop your combat skills because I can’t protect you forever. You can’t depend on strength alone without the corresponding skills. It might be painful now, but you’ll thank me later."
"Don’t worry, my specialty is healing, and with the Demon King template, as long as I’m not dead, I can recover."
Gu Shanhai said this with a face full of satisfaction, indicating he was finally getting through to the young man.
"So, Uncle, were you fooling me before?" Chu Zhen’s mood had lightened considerably, prompting him to tease.
"I intended to, but surprisingly, you didn’t get into trouble with monsters but with nobles instead. You should reflect on that," Gu Shanhai quipped.
This caused Chu Zhen’s face to darken as he retorted in a hollow voice, "I will reflect."
"Enough, don’t reflect on it now. When the time comes to slaughter them, you can reflect after making them pay. After all, it’s their fault. Reflecting without retribution would be too frustrating," Gu Shanhai said, rounding off the conversation.
