Chapter 32: Chapter 32: You pull out a gun and tell me you’re not good at fighting?
After Gu Shanhai indicated that there was no problem, Magic Domain also shared his findings.
Fengtai Village and the Mountain God’s ritual indeed had a connection. The Mountain God was named Qian Fengsheng, rumored to have been a great general in ancient times. The specifics were unknown to the village chief, but after achieving fame and success, he returned to Fengtai Village and became a wealthy landlord. However, his bravery did not fade, as he once killed a fierce tiger on the mountain.
And just like that, he became the Mountain God.
But that was not the main point. The main point was that Qian Fengsheng later had a daughter who married the Emperor. Hence, their village was renamed Fengtai Village, signifying that a phoenix had once dwelled there.
Gu Shanhai was naturally aware of Qian Fengsheng, who was the direct ancestor of the village chief mentioned in the clan records and the one who had not yet been enshrined in the ancestral hall.
"The story is mostly accurate, but there’s a good chance something has been concealed or omitted," Gu Shanhai said.
"There’s no rush on this matter. Today, I saw the person intended to be the Mountain God’s bride being transferred to the village chief’s house. I suspect the village chief’s house might also have a basement," Magic Domain said.
"Then we’ll rescue her tonight," Heavenly Immortal Drunk said immediately.
"Your intentions are good, but if so, what will happen to the Mountain God’s ritual tomorrow?" Gu Shanhai understood their meaning—they intended to rescue her.
It was a sound idea, but without a sacrifice, they would immediately come under suspicion, especially since they were the only three outsiders in the entire village.
"We can simply kill them and then blow the place up," Heavenly Immortal Drunk suggested.
Among the players, Heavenly Immortal Drunk was indeed considered a good person, but it was undeniable that he also viewed this as a game. The actions of the NPCs in Fengtai Village had irked the players, naturally making them ready to go on a killing spree.
Majority rule as a justification? Not in this game—killing was all part of the thrilling experience for the players.
"Ah, well... okay, but if we’re going to go on a massacre, we might have to take action tonight, not tomorrow," Gu Shanhai said somewhat helplessly.
He had prepared himself and was actually quite in favor of Heavenly Immortal Drunk’s idea.
The village chief certainly knew a lot, and Gu Shanhai didn’t want to investigate any further. The research was tiring him out; he just wanted to find a place to conduct experiments, practice Qi Refinement, and cultivate Spirit Plants.
"Let’s do it tonight, but just so you know in advance, I’m not good at fighting and have limited means."
Magic Domain said, simultaneously pulling out a pistol, a submachine gun, grenades, and various other weapons from his inventory.
"???"×2
"You call this not being able to fight? These things seem even more effective than my explosives," Gu Shanhai was speechless. While using his halo as a bomb drained his mana, the weapons Magic Domain had were extraordinary.
In fact, Gu Shanhai was also intrigued; he wanted to study the structure of these firearms, as his high-pressure water gun was no match for them.
He knew about them in his past life, but he hadn’t brought any with him to this one.
However, he quickly noticed something off about the firearms and ammunition Magic Domain held—they were magical items encased in firearm shells.
Right, they couldn’t be dismantled. Taking them apart would cause damage, and it was unclear from what odd modernized magical world they had been acquired.
As for observation, that was also not practical, because he lacked Divine Sense or any sort of psychic scanning ability. In the End of Dharma era, where the cap was the first tier of Qi Refinement and where emphasis was on Refinement of Qi, it would be impossible to have such abilities. In terms of martial arts, it was even more absurd; in a world where becoming a top expert meant developing Inner Strength, there was no mental or spiritual power to speak of.
So Gu Shanhai declined the offer—borrowing and then breaking someone’s gear was inconsiderate, and he would not appreciate if it were done to his own equipment.
"The supply is limited; when they’re gone, they’re gone. If it wasn’t for facing overwhelming numbers this time, I might not have considered using them. Usually, I use them for exorcisms," Magic Domain explained.
Since most of Magic Domain’s instances were puzzle-based, and mostly involved various types of spiritual beings, regular firearms were ineffective against them. Only these blessed, enchanted weapons could do any harm, so using them against non-spiritual enemies was quite wasteful.
"Cough, your bullets are enchanted with elemental magic and blessed with Holy Light, right?" Gu Shanhai knew that asking for the firearms wouldn’t fly, but perhaps requesting some bullets for research would be fine.
"Do you have a plan?" Magic Domain thought Gu Shanhai had some clever scheme in mind.
"Could you give me one of each kind? I have a use for them," Gu Shanhai shamelessly asked.
"Just one... Is that enough?" Magic Domain was puzzled. One bullet seemed too little. He had indeed fewer things like grenades, but he had enough bullets.
He had purchased ten sets of each kind to brute force his way through spiritual beings when puzzle-solving failed.
"It’ll do. I have certain skills that can be combined with elemental items," Gu Shanhai improvised.
"However, these bullets are designed for specific weapons and skills; without them, they’re not likely to be very powerful," Magic Domain added.
"No worries, they’ll primarily be used as a trump card. The more elemental props these skills consume, the higher the damage they can deal," Gu Shanhai continued to fabricate.
Magic Domain wasn’t suspicious and quickly handed over five bullets, representing five different elements: fire, frost, Holy Light, corrosion, and poison. To Gu Shanhai, this combination was excellent—offensive, deceleration, purification, armor-breaking, and damage over time. This set could instantly take down most spirit-type monsters in beginner instances. For intermediate areas, they were still very useful, just less effective unless meeting boss-level creatures.
The only drawback was that they were highly damaging only to spirit-type monsters. Against other life forms, not only would the damage decrease, but the effects would be significantly reduced.
But for Gu Shanhai, it was enough. He was researching elemental attributes, not interested in the damage itself.
Once he mastered it, his Magic Domain would gain many more tricks.
"Wait a moment... Is there a disturbance outside?" Gu Shanhai faintly heard some noise. Although in the range of human capability, as his physical traits surpassed theirs, he had better attributes.
"It seems the whole village is looking for Qian Tiezhu?" Gu Shanhai quickly discerned from the villagers’ shouts.
"Let’s go check it out," Magic Domain said, stowing away his arsenal, ready to gather information. It was best to avoid complications before their planned night action, lest there be unexpected problems.
