Chapter 275: Chapter 163: Three Lifetimes and Reincarnations, Meeting as Old Friends_2
```
He was clearly uncomfortable because of the retort he had just received, so he responded with a touch of sarcasm.
"That kid? Ha, he has always wanted to study abroad, and only Yu Niang is blind to his true intentions. Tomorrow, when Mr. Gu Nei from Japan arrives to take him to Japan for further study, he’ll be more eager than you to send Yu Niang over to my Luo Mansion." The man spoke in a calm voice, revealing that he had long prepared a plan for this situation.
"I will come to present the betrothal gifts the day after tomorrow, and five days later is an auspicious day. Let’s set the wedding for then. This is the betrothal money."
Upon hearing about the hastiness, the Old Temple Priest was also hesitant, "So soon? Can everything be prepared in time?"
"What’s there to prepare? Just let Yu Niang come over, and that’s enough. With her parents’ orders and the matchmaker’s words, even her own lover doesn’t want her anymore. If she doesn’t enter my Luo Mansion, there’s no place for her in the entire Qingxian Town." The man finished speaking and stood up to leave.
When they heard this commotion, the three of them swiftly hid themselves in a secluded spot.
"It’s Luo Huaisong, the richest man in town," whispered Heavenly Immortal, clearly drunk. Given that he had been investigating the Luo Family, he naturally recognized the man.
"Should we make a move and kill these two?" proposed White Cloud in his typically understated manner.
"..." Gu Shanhai was speechless. He hadn’t even said these words himself, yet the usually reserved White Cloud had already suggested it.
It was obviously the instance party ready to take action.
"Stop messing around. How do you plan to save a lovestruck fool like that? Don’t end up not only without thanks but also despised by her."
"At the very least, we have to go slow and let her see the situation clearly first."
"Besides, it’s not just these things restricting her; there’s also social etiquette, which can truly devour a person."
Gu Shanhai spoke up as a reminder. Luo Huaisong was right; once parental orders and the matchmaker’s words were invoked, Yu Niang truly had no room to resist. If she dared to defy them, she would have no place in Qingxian Town. Plus, with Fan Shi abandoning her, the best she could hope for was throwing herself into a river or hanging herself. Otherwise, the public scorn and malice alone would crush her.
To Gu Shanhai, these two were simply looking out for their own emotional satisfaction. Saving the person was one thing, but what to do afterward was another. Sticking around for the aftermath was not an appealing prospect unless they took the person away with them.
But wanting to take a native away was not an easy feat; they had to first raise Yu Niang’s favorability to the maximum before she could complete tasks as a follower, servant, or heroic spirit, and then they could take her out of this world.
Gu Shanhai could take someone directly, but he didn’t want to. Why would he bother with a useless burden? He already had enough trouble taking care of Little White, let alone another useless person. And since he wasn’t the one struggling with unsatisfied emotions, why should he pay?
"Do you guys feel like we’re being watched?" said Gu Shanhai, following the line of sight and seeing a woman under the moonlight watching them crouched in the bushes.
"Who’s that?" asked Heavenly Immortal, clearly drunk, though he also saw her without recognizing her.
"That’s Yu Niang...I think. I’m not too sure, mainly because, as I said before, she has an identical twin sister. Why don’t you take her, and then when you go home, you can play ’sister rice bowls.’" Gu Shanhai joked, completely ignoring the murderous look from White Cloud.
"Stop joking, we’ve been spotted. Should we make contact?" said Heavenly Immortal, clearly drunk, as beads of sweat dripped down his forehead, quickly changing the subject.
"Being spotted is no big deal, I have a brick that’s perfect for dealing with this kind of problem," said Gu Shanhai, pulling out a brick that hung at his waist. This very brick had been pried from the Fan Family’s wall, and Gu Shanhai had used it to help Fan Shi with a manual memory loss.
"I think it’s just some plot point," White Cloud said, knowing that outside they had to save face for Heavenly Immortal. There was always time to teach him a lesson once they got back home.
"Fine, if you guys say we should make contact, let’s do it." Gu Shanhai put the brick away, as he was quite indifferent.
The three of them approached stealthily, and upon meeting, the woman immediately asked, "Who are you?"
"And who are you? I’ve done my investigation already, and Yu Niang doesn’t have a twin sister. Don’t try to fool me," Gu Shanhai countered preemptively.
```
"I’m called Yue Niang, and I’m Yu Niang’s sister." Yue Niang began to speak.
When Gu Shanhai heard this, veins almost burst from his forehead, as she completely ignored what he had said.
"So, who are you, and why have you snuck into Yun Niang Temple in the dead of night?" Yue Niang repeated his question.
"Oh, we’re astronomers, here to observe the stars." Since she was playing dumb with Gu Shanhai, he decided to spout nonsense as well.
Yue Niang looked as if she thought they were fools, wondering who in the world would squat in a corner to stargaze.
"We overheard the Old Temple Priest saying that your sister was sold to the Luo Family’s idiot son to be his wife and that Fan Shi himself was preparing to send her over," Heavenly Immortal drunkenly blurted out, obviously trying to gain her trust.
Seeing this, Gu Shanhai facepalmed; they just spilled the beans. Fine then, since she had a plan in mind, Gu Shanhai decided not to meddle anymore.
The good Samaritan syndrome kicked in, and the plot-driven party officially logged on. From here on out, he just had to blend in.
The couple’s communication with Yue Niang went smoothly; they definitely had skills for communication or for increasing charisma on them.
He did have a charisma-boosting Imperial Seal, but the charm from this natural mark didn’t seem to have been used much... oh, no, that’s not right, it had been used when he was called Master Lu, with his dignified and stylish presence benefiting from the charm bonus.
"What’s wrong with him?" Yue Niang and Heavenly Immortal were chatting and laughing when they suddenly noticed Gu Shanhai looking listlessly at Yun Niang Temple, as if assessing something, his initially active demeanor shifting to one of apparent indifference, which was clearly problematic.
"Don’t worry about him; it’s his old habit flaring up." Heavenly Immortal stepped in to smooth things over, suspecting Gu Shanhai was planning to blow up Yun Niang Temple, as that would be the only reason for such behaviour, though he couldn’t say it outright. They had just started to gain some favor and didn’t want Gu Shanhai to ruin it.
"Are you done yet? Little White is still waiting for his night snack, have you finished talking?" Gu Shanhai asked, somewhat helplessly.
"All done, all done, don’t rush." Heavenly Immortal casually replied to Gu Shanhai, and then turned back to Yue Niang, "We hope you can introduce us to Yu Niang tomorrow. We plan to help her."
"Thank you, I will definitely find a way," Yue Niang expressed her gratitude.
After a few more exchanges, the trio finally made their way down the mountain.
Watching the departing figures, Yue Niang’s expression was complex: "This cycle of reincarnation is actually facing an anomaly. Where did these three come from... can they really succeed?"
Gu Shanhai thought he had overheard something extraordinary.
With the hearing ability of Heavenly Immortal and White Cloud, they would indeed not hear if they were too far away and the other person’s voice was soft, because they didn’t have the corresponding talent or skill. However, Gu Shanhai was different; his physical conditioning was impressive, perception especially being his strong suit, which naturally included auditory perception as well. So even though he was far away, he heard Yue Niang’s muttering quite clearly.
Looking up, text appeared in the sky that only he could see.
[Quest: Break the Cycle of Three Lifetimes]
"The main quest has suddenly activated; what about you?" Heavenly Immortal asked.
"Mine too, it seems we’ve indeed found the right direction. Now we just have to prevent the tragedy of Yu Niang being married into the Luo Mansion to break the cycle," White Cloud surmised the situation while analyzing.
Gu Shanhai rubbed his temples, his interest piqued; an instance involving a cycle of reincarnation seemed to finally offer some benefits.
"It won’t be that easy. Haven’t you noticed that from start to finish, there hasn’t been any danger related to combat? So, what’s coming next is going to be tough," Gu Shanhai said, knowing that it couldn’t be that simple—it didn’t match their level at all.
Did they really think they would get by on puzzle-solving? With just the three of them and their half-baked skills? Surely not. There must be a fight coming up.
