Chapter 180 - 116: The Holy Knight Order, Gerry Swallward’s Charge
Chapter 180: Chapter 116: The Holy Knight Order, Gerry Swallward’s Charge
"Gerry Swallward, the first Holy Knight," Gu Shanhai said in a deep voice.
On his way here, he had killed quite a few Knights and Priests who stood in his way; none of them were a match for him, Little White could crush them with a single charge.
By now, he had reached his destination. It was within expectations that the church would send this Holy Knight. Most of the church’s forces were tied down on the distant battlefields and were not able to extricate themselves.
A Priest’s prerequisite was nobility, and nobles were required to answer the call of the King. Should they dare to withdraw from the battlefield, they would certainly be stripped of their noble status by Atilis. At that time, what they would lose was not just their noble status but also their Priesthood.
Thus sending a somewhat special Holy Knight was quite an awkward position within the church. Their strength was undeniable, but their official position was uncertain, compounded by the fact that their heritage and power were inconsistent.
"A commoner, you have committed a grave sin, desecrated the church, and stolen the Lord’s offerings. Should you surrender, I will grant you an honorable death," Gerry said, not caring that the other party was aware of his situation, and rebuked Gu Shanhai upon seeing him.
This made Gu Shanhai feel rather uncomfortable; surrendering still meant death, an absurd notion, comparable to the equally odd premise of handing over treasures in exchange for sparing one’s life.
"That being said, I’d like to ask, if I’m going to die anyway, why should I surrender?" Gu Shanhai asked curiously, not for any other reason but specifically to understand why the other could make such a statement.
"The Lord can forgive your sins after death. However, if you resist, even in death, you shall suffer the Lord’s punishment!" Gerry explained earnestly to Gu Shanhai, "You are a commoner, unable to bathe in the glory of the Lord, yet you can crawl at His feet and become one of His slaves."
"...," For a moment, Gu Shanhai didn’t know what to say, so it’s just the nobles who can enjoy these privileges.
"But I am a Druid, I don’t believe in your Lord," Gu Shanhai spread his hands, indicating that what they said was right, but it was irrelevant to him.
In that instant, Gerry’s gaze sharpened, and his spear was enveloped in blazing Holy Flame.
"Heresy Druid! Since that is the case, I will cleanse your sins with Holy Flame," Gerry declared, and the Holy Knights around him also erupted with blazing Holy Flame. Their sizes and intensities varied, however.
"Holy Knights, charge!"
With a low roar, Gerry led the entire Holy Knight Order in a charge towards Gu Shanhai.
The Holy Knights were all heavily armored, including their mounts, which also wore heavy armor. Coupled with their stackable aura skills, the charge was naturally phenomenally powerful.
The opponent was coming to kill him, so naturally, they would exert their full strength, not just one person, but the whole Holy Knight Order.
’No wonder the Holy Knight Order would become the church’s trump card in the previous life. Even though they are still considered young, their power cannot be underestimated.’
What Gu Shanhai referred to as ’young’ actually meant they had existed for over fifty years. Indeed, Gerry Swallward was already in his seventies, an old-timer by now. However, after becoming a Holy Knight, his prime years were significantly extended. Though he was older now, his strength far surpassed his younger self.
"This tactic is so outdated. Knights have nothing but the charge," Gu Shanhai shook his head, finding too many uncertainties and exploitable weaknesses in the charge.
"Too bad, I can’t kill you, or else it would be much easier."
Watching the Holy Knight Order’s charge, Gu Shanhai sighed. A charge by a Low Magic Era Holy Knight Order barely caught his attention, whereas a High Magic Era Holy Knight Order’s charge was truly fearsome. The Holy Flame’s radiance could pierce through half of the sky, and the horses’ hooves could cause mountains to tremble.
Now, at most, it just kicked up some dust.
"Azure Dragon·Thunderclap·Entanglement Technique."
The Azure Dragon coiling around Gu Shanhai let out a dragon’s cry, and the surrounding weeds, shrubs, and branches began to twist and entangle, instantly forming a vast area of entanglement. Gerry and his Holy Knight Order, caught in the charge, had no time to turn or stop, because doing so would harm their mounts.
Yet to Gerry, it was just a mere Entanglement Technique. Given the Knight Order’s power, they were undaunted by the entangles.
But once he truly entered, he noticed something was amiss. This wasn’t the Entanglement from the first ring of Druid Divine Skill, but some more sinister power.
The normal Entanglement only had binding and coiling functions, yet here, the plants were like living things, probing into the crevices of the horses’ armor, voraciously sucking the blood and flesh of the warhorses. Before they could break out of the entanglement, large amounts of blood flowed from the armor, and pieces of flesh fell off.
In an instant, the area descended into great chaos, and the mighty warhorses became mere skeletal remains. The fallen Knights, amidst the carnivorous plants, were somewhat panicked.
"At the peak from the start... So, have you never experienced a harsh beating?" Gu Shanhai noticed something interesting.
As favored sons of the church, the Holy Knights possessed the finest equipment and had undergone the most comprehensive training, rendering them invincible all along and never having faced failure or a formidable foe.
Of course, what Gu Shanhai released wasn’t the proper Entanglement Technique at all. He didn’t know that Divine Skill in the first place, it was merely a namesake ability, meant as a distraction.
