Chapter 145: Chapter 98: So He Really Plans to Become the Red Dragon King_2
This is all nonsense to him, asking him to become a Minister of State as if he was fretting over the kingdom’s excessive longevity. He hasn’t much dabbled in management or politics, which are areas of weakness for him.
His past self relied more on strength to crush others than on using his intellect.
Why use your brain when a fist can solve the problem? It’s only now, when his fists aren’t enough, that Gu Shanhai starts beating around the bush. Otherwise, he would normally just forcefully take what he wants.
Atilis didn’t expect Gu Shanhai to refuse and now found it hard to understand his thoughts.
"Alright then, I will keep a position for you, Mr. Shanhai, waiting for your arrival," Atilis said without insisting further, sensing that Gu Shanhai’s refusal indicated he probably never coveted Atilis’s position and simply did it for the prophecy; otherwise, he wouldn’t be so indifferent.
"If it’s possible, the role of the Royal Library’s librarian suits me. I enjoy reading," Gu Shanhai quipped.
Morico cast an odd glance at Gu Shanhai, then looked towards Mafas as if to say, "Is there something wrong with this new member of your sect?"
Mafas responded with a look that said, "You’re the one with problems."
After some more discussion, Atilis took his leave, preparing to follow Kurus Brass and head back to Giant Dragon Valley to undergo the trials to become a Dragon Vein Druid.
Morico Polaris also left, as he had people to contact.
Then the group planned to meet again at the Royal Capital. This time, it wasn’t for dine and wine but for a major power struggle.
They weren’t the only ones leaving Deer Plain; Mafas and others were headed to other Druid Sects.
This was a rare opportunity that no one wanted to miss.
As for Gu Shanhai, he had no plans to leave Deer Plain. He at least wanted to wait until he had successfully condensed the second tier of the natural mark and permanently fixed the second and third circle of the "prophecy" spells onto himself.
Indeed, the second tier of the natural mark meant two could cast second circle, and fully condensing four meant third circle spells.
However, during this process, Gu Shanhai estimated that he would need to upgrade all the Spirit Plants to level 2 to bear the strain, focusing on transformative quality as the threshold for level 2 Spirit Plants.
Of course, these were just foundational tasks. He needed to cultivate new Spirit Plants and perfect the "Green Emperor Longevity Scripture," which meant gradually integrating the Druid system into it, which was the most critical part.
Only then could his strength undergo a substantive transformation.
By the time he completed these tasks, Atilis would likely have ascended to the throne.
The mission should then be deemed complete for him, and he could look forward to reaping the benefits. As one of the major contributors, Gu Shanhai was sure to gain something.
For instance, he might gain access to the inheritance knowledge from various Druid Sects or the knowledge within the Camelot Kingdom Library. He might even gain a vast network to protect himself, at least until he had acquired everything of value in this world, there was no need to worry about his safety.
After bidding farewell to the group, Mafas began packing up, ready to take the remaining four Druid Elders and leave.
"Shanhai, I am entrusting Deer Plain to your care for now. If you need to leave, you can temporarily seal the barrier. We won’t be back for a while."
"Don’t worry. Once we are successful at the Royal Capital, I will write to you," Mafas assured, clearly planning not to return.
"Understood. I will take good care of Deer Plain," Gu Shanhai nodded in response.
"And about the Rahan Family and the Esoeron family, I will make sure they give you a satisfactory explanation," Mafas said emphatically.
It wasn’t just their mark line, but also the Dragon Vein line, the returnees, and other Druids who would help. If Gu Shanhai had died, none of this would be relevant, but since he not only survived but also brought back Atilis, they needed to properly negotiate. They were close to having the Druid King replaced by a Knight King.
Without this opportunity, the Druids would simply fade away with the old era.
"There’s no need for that; I’ll handle it myself," Gu Shanhai said, his eyelids lowered, indifferently refusing the offer.
He was the vindictive type; what explanation could he possibly offer? It would have been nothing more than an apology and offering up some resources, but could that really settle the score?
Gu Shanhai had killed Du’er Lahan and Sethanda Esohon, ensuring that reconciliation between them was impossible. How could he expect the bereaved to make amends, even if they were at fault? Who could swallow their pride in such a scenario?
So he still planned to exact revenge in his own way, which, of course, meant sending their entire families packing.
Hoping for reconciliation after such a feud was hopelessly naive.
Mafas saw through Gu Shanhai’s intentions and finally said, "In that case, you might never succeed in your lifetime."
"Who knows," Gu Shanhai smiled. In the eyes of the opposition, he certainly couldn’t stand against two noble families alone. But why did revenge have to be honorable? Poison, surprise attacks, targeted explosions, and more were all fair game to him.
He was never a gentleman; his alignment was chaotic neutral, leaning toward chaos, and he might shift toward neutral evil if needed, acting without scruples.
But chaotic evil? That was impossible for a lifetime. As long as he was rational and could weigh pros and cons, he wouldn’t become a destructive maniac concerned only with ruin.
"This is your choice, and I respect it," Mafas didn’t press any further, though he had his own calculations.
Atilis might not let these two families off the hook either. They had been pursuing not just Gu Shanhai but Atilis as well. Perhaps they couldn’t exterminate the clans, but they could gradually diminish their influence—especially since those families belonged to other kingdoms.
After Mafas had given some further instructions, he left Deer Plain with the others.
"Well, they’re gone. Now, what’s next..." Gu Shanhai was about to start practicing when he heard a terrible wailing.
"Can you freaking not sob in front of my window..."
Faced with the ugly visage poking out, Gu Shanhai was dumbfounded. The wailing of the banshee at his window was an extremely bad omen.
He hastily did a divination for himself, Little Ji. He expected something worse, like a great or minor misfortune.
It seemed she must have something to tell him.
"Spill it, what’s the matter..." Gu Shanhai asked.
The banshee stood up and then pointed at the three-story-tall Water Seeking Beast Akfan heading toward his house.
"Holy shit, stop!!!" Seeing this, Gu Shanhai immediately yelled, while the banshee vanished.
Boom~
The wooden hut collapsed, and then the Water Seeking Beast splashed water all over Gu Shanhai’s face before turning and running away.
"How can this creature be more petty than me..." grumbled Gu Shanhai.
The banshee and the Water Seeking Beast had become part of Deer Plain after being ’persuaded’ by three different Druid Elders—Mafas Wolf Teeth, Kurus Brass, and Morico Polaris—in turn.
The banshee wandered daily, busy delivering news of demise to other magical creatures, while the Water Seeking Beast was thoroughly enjoying itself soaking in the water all day long.
Gu Shanhai thought the matter was over, not expecting the Water Seeking Beast to still seek revenge. After Mafas and the others left, it not only knocked down his wooden hut but also deliberately splashed him in the face with water.
Collapsing the hut was probably an accident due to not braking in time, but the splashing was intentional.
Probably fearing a scolding after Gu Shanhai’s complaint, it chose a quick splash and run instead of regurgitating all its stomach contents onto him for true satisfaction.
"If you dare come back, I’ll report it directly to Elder Mafas, and he has his ways to handle you!!!" Gu Shanhai warned loudly, watching the Water Seeking Beast’s retreating figure.
Hearing this, the beast shivered and sped up by a fraction, evidently taking the warning to heart.
