Chapter 134: Chapter 93: The Untimely Death of the Headless Knight_2
In an instant, Gu Shanhai, carrying a terrifying storm, became an unmatched stream of dreadful light and slammed directly into the center of that squadron of Heavy Armor Knights, the ferocious thunder exploding instantly.
"You’re forcing my hand! You’re forcing my hand!"
The sound of madness accompanied the thunder resounding in Duer Rahan’s ears.
"Eight Diagrams Thunder!"
The Spirit Plant sprang forth from Gu Shanhai’s body, and in that moment, a thunderous roar bellowed forth.
Crack~
The lightning created a force field, piercing into the Heavy Armor Knights. Duer Rahan fared better; although he couldn’t react in time to Gu Shanhai’s wild and swift assault, his physically strong body from Knight training managed to withstand the hit, but not without sustaining serious injury. The other Knights were instantly struck down by the lightning, charred to cinders on the spot.
The men died, but the ordeal wasn’t over. After death, from within their burned husks encased in heavy armor, a crackling sound emerged, as if burning rotting wood.
And then the fallen Heavy Armor Knights wobbled and stood up once more, seemingly under the control of Gu Shanhai.
He did not devour these charred corpses with healing magic; instead, he controlled the nine Heavy Armor Knight corpses in an utterly opposite manner and sent them to attack Duer Rahan.
"You are powerful, but this ends here," said Duer Lahan as he kicked aside a warhorse that had already died, black mist seeping from the gaps in his armor.
His battle-axe swept across without hesitation, cutting the charging Heavy Armor Knights in half at the waist.
Duer Rahan’s strength was truly substantial; even when caught off guard and badly wounded, he still retained a formidable fighting capability, and the closer a Knight came to death, the stronger they seemed to become.
This was different from blood-selling tactics; aside from their own injuries, life span and diseases were also bringing them close to death, meaning the more aged or gravely ill they were, the stronger they became.
Essentially, any negative effect Gu Shanhai gave the opponents would only make them stronger.
Boom~
"Too slow, too slow; you’re too slow," Gu Shanhai’s hands fluttered like a butterfly flitting through flowers, effortlessly dissipating that enormous force, and the ground beneath him cracked like a spiderweb.
Then, with a backhanded slap, it didn’t matter where it hit; lightning surged over the opponent’s armor, and the healing spell worked in reverse, drawing life force, spirit, and soul into the opponent’s body at that moment.
"Thundershower of Summer, give me... Damn it~"
Gu Shanhai hadn’t finished shouting his command when he saw the opponent’s armor distorted from the explosion of flesh and blood, the head swelling grotesquely and the limbs bulging with numerous marks, the armor twisted beyond recognition.
"Indeed, he lacked the protagonist’s luck; he died before I could even shout my command."
"Ptui, you think you can beat me in close combat?"
Gu Shanhai sat on the ground, cursing under his breath, as if thinking that just because he wasn’t good at close combat, that all other tactics would be ineffective, and he would need to fight desperately. In desperate moments, Gu Shanhai was at his strongest.
Normally, he might be weak, but when fully powered, he could reach the highest standards of his level, and in a desperate fight, he could exceed his limits. Right now, he was only utilizing a fraction of his power, not his full strength.
...
"I still shouldn’t fight so recklessly; if he had lasted another hour, I would have been done for," Gu Shanhai reformed the Magic Domain, protecting himself and adding all his defenses back while containing all his Spiritual Energy.
During desperate times, when you can’t spare much thought and have to command a significant amount of Mana, the Magic Domain not only wouldn’t help but would actually be a hindrance. When you’re desperate, it’s either you die or I die.
Desperation was truly that—desperation. Thankfully, he had his Spirit Root Ability as a safety net; otherwise, he wouldn’t dare push himself so hard.
Indeed, using life force combined with the Spirit Plant, he utilized the Eight Diagrams Thunder to bolster his strength; in the process, his physical condition was also being forcefully stimulated for improvement. To translate that improvement into levels, his level skyrocketed from 20 to about 50.
That wasn’t the limit; he had estimated his limit could reach around level 60, though the aftermath would be tough, leading to severe life force depletion.
Right now, he was also suffering from life force depletion, albeit mild and not by much. The main issue was Duer Lahan’s inadequacy. Should Kurus Brass confront him, he would likely face severe depletion.
"Cough, your first injury, huh? That’s a heavy loss," Gu Shanhai said as he administered a high-concentration nutrient injection directly into himself.
Life force depletion wasn’t a concern as long as it could be replenished. As his trump card, it naturally had to be reusable, but certainly, a period of recovery was needed.
"Why is it still an omen of great misfortune?" Gu Shanhai recalculated his divination and found that his divinatory hexagrams hadn’t changed, still portending great misfortune.
"Does this mean, it’s not over yet?" Gu Shanhai’s expression undeniably darkened.
"Merlin definitely can’t track down Ava by now; although he is a wizard of legendary reputation, when it comes to true strength, Mafas would outpace him by leagues."
"Ava has a Transcendent artifact made by Mafas; he couldn’t possibly be found."
Reputation didn’t equate to capability. Merlin gained his status as a Legendary Wizard not because he was especially powerful, but because he played political games as a wizard and hasn’t been executed.
While Mafas and other Druids in Deer Plain dedicated themselves to their studies undisturbed by external affairs, these contemporaries wouldn’t be much different in capabilities.
