Chapter 114: Chapter 86: I Just Want to Grow a Piece of Sky_3
"Merlin thinks that no one knows, but actually, we all do. It’s just that we choose to ignore it."
"His actions are quite ridiculous, trying to fight destiny with destiny, not realizing that this is his very destiny."
Mafasi rarely showed a mocking demeanor; before this, he had always been amiable and agreeable.
Upon hearing this, Gu Shanhai had a realization: Merlin’s fate was to be blinded by love and ultimately trapped within a tomb crafted from giant stones by his lover—echoing the tale of Oedipus.
"Destiny..." Gu Shanhai murmured quietly. Indeed, this world was governed by destiny enveloping all its inhabitants.
This destiny was a master, the will of nature, one of the laws of its workings.
Neither Atilis, the Red Dragon King, nor Merlin, the great sage, could escape this predestined outcome, unlike He Lingyun, who had become another King of Men.
"Wait a minute... are you planning to use me to break this destiny by helping Atilis ascend to the throne?"
This task was actually redundant because even without Gu Shanhai’s help, Atilis ascension as King was certain. As the son of the former King, carrying the royal bloodline, and with Merlin to prove his legitimacy and not a bastard, coupled with his foster father’s aid, the nobles couldn’t oppose this lineage.
The nobles used their own bloodlines as reason to govern their lands, and they might oppose Atilis’ capabilities, but never his bloodline. Once the bloodline became an excuse, it meant the collapse of the entire noble hierarchy.
Moreover, destiny aided this process; failure seemed impossible.
However, adding Gu Shanhai, a potentially calamitous element, to the equation could complicate matters.
"So, do you want to witness it?" Mafasi asked again.
Gu Shanhai hesitated momentarily, wanting to go but fearing complications.
"Then let’s just go and see what happens," Gu Shanhai finally decided, thinking that, should any issues arise, it was none of his concern.
Wherever players went, problems ensued; better he mess things up than someone else.
"You’re still young; you can see more. This will be a rare grand occasion, and Camelot will have the most powerful King ever," Mafasi remarked.
Of course, Gu Shanhai already knew this without needing a reminder from Mafasi.
"Therefore, you need to prepare quickly. For instance, Divine Arts, you should get more familiar with them or quickly increase the number of your nature’s marks," Mafasi suggested.
"..." Gu Shanhai felt a headache coming on. How did it end up on Divine Arts and nature’s marks again? He was just going as a spectator, yet it felt as though he was gearing up for battle.
"Elder Mafasi, you haven’t foreseen something, have you?" Gu Shanhai asked in return.
Mafasi looked slightly embarrassed and then said, "Through the Internal Organ Divination Skill, it seems I saw you confronting some people..."
"Oh, so there’s danger, then? No, I won’t go," Gu Shanhai immediately withdrew upon hearing this. He intended to reap benefits; if there were danger, he wouldn’t bother. He could just live off his inheritance on Deer Plain, changing his mind as usual.
"???" Mafasi was speechless. Isn’t this the point where you should insist on facing the danger?
"I think you should go. There might not be much danger," Mafasi earnestly pressed on, realizing that if this continued, Gu Shanhai might really be led astray.
A prodigy, keen on learning, that was good, but he didn’t act the part of a Druid at all, cooped up reading books all day, unlike even the Royal Scholars.
"There being not much danger means there is some danger. Look at my current strength; going now doesn’t seem wise. How about this—let me first secure the Tier 1 Spells, no, add some Tier 2 Divination Spells to my repertoire, and then I’ll go," Gu Shanhai reasoned. Not going didn’t seem entirely proper, so it was better to be thoroughly prepared before making the journey.
Mafasi felt his veins bulging. There were twenty-six Tier 1 Divination Spells, aside from the ones like Language Understanding, Detect Secret Door, Detect Unfamiliar Creatures, Identification, and First Strike which Gu Shanhai had already mastered, leaving Test Bloodline, City Geo-location, Scholar’s Touch, Merchant’s Touch, The Way of the Bow, Deadly Strikes, Antagonizing Sentinels, Directed Shot, Pure Feint, Instant Sleight of Hand, Intuitive Search, Master’s Touch, Sniper’s Bolts, Self-propelled Search, Targeted Beam, Detect Dragon Blood, Magic Power Fabrication, Precise Spell Casting, Vigilant Sleep, Locate Water Body, and Quick Preparation.
The spells covered long-range, close-combat, defense, and searching among other effects, requiring not just learning but corresponding skills.
For example, Master’s Touch needed corresponding weapon proficiency and expertise, and Deadly Strikes needed Mastery of Critical Hits. So, it’s not just about mastering them; even acquiring a full set would take a considerable amount of time, and even Mafasi himself learned the skills before studying the corresponding spells.
So, if they really had to wait for Gu Shanhai to master Tier 1 and Tier 2, it would probably be several years after everything had already concluded.
"If you’re not planning to go, just say it!" Mafasi said through clenched teeth.
"Was that too much? Then just Tier 1. Look, I have already completed five, only twenty-one left. As long as I’m fast enough, it should be no problem."
Once all were learned, he wouldn’t have to worry about sneak attacks, poisoning, or other deceitful tricks, and he could even ensure his own sneak attacks were effective: Master’s Touch would enhance his bow or hidden weapon capabilities, Magic Power Fabrication would add extra damage, then adding The Way of the Bow would decrease the alertness of the target, followed by attaching Deadly Strikes, and with the guidance of Directed Shot, the distance bonus of Sniper’s Bolts, and the precision of Targeted Beam.
This combination, even without poisons or adding elemental damages, would allow even a common long-range attack to kill silently.
Moreover, with the corresponding skills practiced, Gu Shanhai could be more secure.
He estimated that mastering all Tier 1 Divination Spells could be done within a month, ensuring he wouldn’t miss out.
Hearing this, Mafasi could only sigh; he knew this was Gu Shanhai’s bottom line. If this didn’t work, he truly might not go.
"One month then, you must set out after one month," Mafasi stated.
"Alright, but I’m curious, Elder Mafasi, why do you insist on me going?" Gu Shanhai asked.
"Destiny cannot be defied; even if I don’t send you, you’ll end up going due to other reasons. Thus, it’s better to act proactively rather than passively," Mafasi advised.
"..." Gu Shanhai cursed inwardly; this was essentially him digging his own grave. After all, his initial plan was to go, and now it ended up like this misunderstanding.
