Chapter 88: Madam Sofia’s Messages
"Is that all?" Luis asked, feeling that her words weren’t entirely sincere.
"I also want to traumatize him and make him afraid of me. In terms of status, we’re basically equal within the Whitemoon Family. Zane seems obedient now only because he’s still young. Once he grows up, he’ll eventually develop his own ambitions. If those ambitions get out of control, there’s a chance he’ll go against me. That’s why I need to act cruelly early on, so he develops a fear of me. In elite families in the empire, this kind of thing is very normal. Cousin relationships are fragile—siblings can even kill each other over inheritance," Isadonna explained frankly, hiding nothing from Luis.
Luis could only nod after hearing that.
He looked into her eyes, which happened to be gazing back at his, and it reminded him that they had already formed a marital bond between them.
"Have my parents gone to bed?" Luis asked.
"Yes, but I already told them that you’re marrying me and that weddings in imperial custom and tradition are very simple. They thought you wouldn’t be back tonight, so they went to bed early," Isadonna replied.
Luis was a bit dazed after realizing his parents already knew.
Now, they practically assumed Isadonna was his first lover.
With all the wonderful things he had done with Alice earlier in the day, he felt like this was wrong.
His mind wandered, unsure of what he should do.
But things were already set in motion. Isadonna had become his wife, and she seemed ready to be a devoted one as long as he treated her well.
"You haven’t had dinner, right? Do you want to eat something?" the woman asked suddenly when he remained silent.
"Yes, and make me a glass of orange juice too," Luis replied without thinking.
Isadonna nodded lightly, then stood up and went to the kitchen.
Luis couldn’t stop watching her, still finding it hard to believe that such an elite imperial woman could show such a domestic side after staying at his house.
He then stood up and followed her into the kitchen.
Dinner had already been prepared earlier. Isadonna only needed to move it to the dining table. It consisted of stir-fried vegetables mixed with diced beef and chicken.
After setting the food on the table, Isadonna began making the juice Luis had asked for.
Luis couldn’t help but approach her, prompting her to glance back at him.
"Are you getting impatient?" she asked, looking slightly uneasy as he hovered close.
Luis didn’t do anything unusual—he just stood beside her, leaning against the kitchen counter while gazing at her face.
"Isadonna, you’re a beautiful swan from the empire. Don’t you feel bad becoming the wife of a local man from a colony conquered by the empire?" Luis asked.
It probably didn’t need to be said now that they were already married, but Luis still found it hard to believe.
He remembered the first time he saw her in person—a woman he thought was completely out of his league.
"So, do you see yourself as a frog trying to eat a beautiful swan?" Isadonna retorted, stunning Luis.
He quickly replied, "Even if I was born in a small place, I wouldn’t call myself a frog. How could a frog be this powerful? I think I’m more like a dragon. It doesn’t matter where I was born—I’m destined to soar high in the sky."
"If you consider yourself a dragon, then act like one. Don’t behave like a frog," Isadonna said indifferently.
She was mocking him, but instead of getting offended, Luis chuckled.
"Even though you’re a cold woman, you do know how to make a man feel good. Yeah, even if your way of doing it is a bit unique," he said.
He genuinely felt happy. Though she was teasing him, it also felt like she was acknowledging him—as a dragon.
"Sit down. Your juice is ready," Isadonna said as she brought the glass of juice to the dining table.
Luis immediately went to the table and sat down.
Isadonna, of course, kept him company for dinner, even though she wasn’t eating.
She sat across from him and, as usual, pulled out a book.
Luis began eating, occasionally sipping the orange juice she had made.
Of course, his eyes were almost always on her face, but she was fixated on her book, which slightly annoyed him.
As his wife, shouldn’t she at least pay attention to him while they shared dinner?
On impulse, Luis took the book from her hands, making her frown immediately.
"Won’t you even give me a moment to read?" she said, not hiding her irritation.
"No," Luis replied.
"That’s not a proper way to treat a woman," Isadonna said, narrowing her eyes.
"Unless you want to treat me as a prisoner and make me your toy," she added.
"That’s not my style," Luis answered. "If I see you as a prisoner, then you’ll only be a prisoner. I wouldn’t make a prisoner my toy. If I start something with a woman, it’s out of genuine love and romance."
"That’s just your nonsense. A decent man wouldn’t stop a woman from reading. We’re at the dining table, and I’ve already prepared everything for you. I have the right to relax for a bit until we’re somewhere else," Isadonna responded, raising her voice slightly.
She looked angry but was firm in her view.
In other words, if he didn’t return the book, she’d keep arguing with him.
Luis smiled wryly, realizing that a woman would always insist on her way.
If he forced the issue, their quarrel might wake his parents.
"Give it back," the woman said, reaching her hand out toward him.
"You won’t keep reading in the bedroom, right?" Luis asked.
"I know my responsibilities. You don’t have to worry about that," Isadonna replied indifferently.
Hearing that, Luis finally returned the book to her.
"Seems like you’re all set to be a good wife," he said, chuckling.
Now that she had her book back, she didn’t respond. Her eyes returned to its pages.
Luis refocused on his meal, trying to finish quickly.
But suddenly, he received a message—from Madam Sofia.
It surprised him that she would message this late at night.
Of course, he opened it.
(Are you interested in doing something big?)
It was a question.
Luis wasn’t sure what she meant, but he didn’t think it was anything weird.
(What is it, Madam?)
Curious, he replied.
Isadonna glanced at him when she noticed his sudden focus on his phone.
But she pretended not to care.
(There’s a chance to steal an artifact owned by Zarion. It’s the one he uses to gather information in Apocalypse World. Even though the artifact requires high-level conditions and you wouldn’t be able to use it right now, wouldn’t it be great to own it?)
(Of course, this is very dangerous. If we fail, we won’t die—but we might have to leave Planet Velos.) she sent another message before Luis could finish reading the first one.
His eyes twitched slightly as he read the messages.
Then, his heart began to pound.
(Where are you, Madam?) Luis replied.
(I’m at a restaurant. Here’s the location. Come if you’re interested—we can talk about it first!)
(Wait for me there!)
Luis was definitely interested and felt no fear.
Why would he be afraid if the risk wasn’t death?
If it came to that, he could run with Madam Sofia and bring his family along.
He wasn’t sure what life on another planet would be like, but with his current strength, he should be able to live comfortably.
They wouldn’t have to go to the imperial regions. There were plenty of other planets—colonies or even those owned by other empires if needed.
As long as he had money, the journey could be made.
Of course, that was a worst-case scenario. Things might not get that bad. If Madam Sofia was daring enough to propose it, she must be confident it would work.
Luis stopped eating and stood up, prompting Isadonna to look at him with a furrowed brow.
"Looks like you’ll get a chance to relax tonight. I’ve got something important to do," Luis told her.
"Where are you going? Are you not aware that we just got married?" the woman responded, looking visibly upset—which surprised Luis.
It sounded like she was objecting to them missing their first night together, or maybe she was just using the opportunity to blame him.
Luis was sure it was the latter.
There was no way she suddenly wanted to sleep with him just because they were married.
Luis didn’t answer and instead took her hand.
It was soft and warm, too comfortable to touch.
But she furrowed her brow even more deeply at his touch.
Luis then pulled her up to stand.
"It’s unfortunate, but you’re already my wife—at the very least, I want to hold you," Luis said.
After saying that, he wrapped his arms around her slim waist—just as slim as Alice’s.
Their body types were nearly identical, fitting the highest standards of beauty.
Of course, there were always differences—especially in texture, something hard to describe.
Luis pulled her close until her body pressed against his.
The woman looked surprised but quickly composed herself.
She placed her hands on his chest to separate their chests, seemingly unprepared for her two beautiful mounds to meet his chest.
