I Became My Elf King Character In A Game-Like World -
Chapter 85: People Reaction
Chapter 85: People Reaction
"Ah, yes! Sir Garrick is blessed!"
"He has attained God’s realm before us. We should feel not sorrow, but envy!"
The priests nodded sagely, finding comfort and even a strange pride in this interpretation of the Dragonslayer’s likely demise.
It was then that the chaotic news of the approaching elf army reached them.
Instantly, the pious calm vanished. "Elves!" spat a priest, his face contorted in disgust. "Those pagan wood-huggers, who stubbornly deny the Light! Audacious! To approach a city consecrated to His glory! They should all face the holy Inquisition, their tainted bodies and souls cleansed by sacred fire!"
"Indeed! They must be brought before the Light and forced to confess their heresy!"
"That mercenary band... they must have fallen prey to these heathens!"
"Then... shall we arm ourselves and meet them?" one asked tentatively.
The senior priest shook his head firmly. "Certainly not. We are the spiritual shepherds, the keepers of faith. Combat is for the Knights of Retribution, the sword-arm of the Temple."
"But... the Knights of Retribution are garrisoned far from here."
"Bah!" The senior priest waved a hand. "The Empire’s soldiers, bolstered by those common sellswords and meddling mages, will suffice to hold the walls. Many among them are sinners destined for the pyre themselves, of course, but their... earthly sacrifice in defending His city might earn them a sliver of posthumous grace. Their service, in this instance, is... acceptable."
"A wise perspective, indeed."
The other priests murmured their agreement, content in their perceived holiness and detachment.
Hardly anyone noticed the few quiet sighs.
....
Outside the City Walls.
A massive crowd of humans had gathered very quickly. Knights, mages, nobles, and common folk, they were all packed together.
Almost everyone who was curious, wanting to see if the stories were true, if Elves really were the picture of beauty, nobility, and holiness the bards sang about, had gathered to witness the spectacle.
Some were especially eager for a glimpse of the giant golems and the rare, holy unicorns rumored to be with them.
Everyone stretched their necks, staring into the distance, buzzing with anticipation.
"Elves! The amazing race that lives for thousands of years and was once the strongest race in the continent long ago."
"I’m finally going to see the beautiful Elves! I can barely stand the wait!"
"I just wonder if the stories are actually true..."
"If this turns out to be fake, I’ll skin those mercenaries alive! Let them learn that even strong fighters can’t just disrespect a noble!"
Hearing this loud boast, a few mercenaries nearby scowled. But they kept quiet and chose to step back.
In human society, people were sorted into four main levels: Nobles, Professionals (like knights and mages), Commoners, and Slaves.
Nobles were always at the very top, looking down even on Professionals. A Professional’s standing was only slightly better than a commoner’s.
Just then, a huge cheer erupted from the crowd. Countless people shouted at once. Because far off, against the sky, a massive army had suddenly materialized.
They moved in perfect lines, an almost spooky silence covering the entire force, broken only by the steady rhythm of their advance.
A wave of excitement surged through the enormous crowd.
"Oh God! They really are the legendary Elves!"
"They’re here! They’re actually here!"
Watched by thousands of eyes. The great Elven army slowly approached the city. They moved with smooth discipline, fast and quiet like the wind.
Even the fierce-looking Warcraft Pandas they rode were silent, only their intense eyes, maybe even a little bloodthirsty, were locked onto the city ahead.
As the Elves got closer, a heavy sense of seriousness, almost tension, settled over the scene.
But the humans packed below the city walls didn’t seem to feel it. Instead, they stared with wide-eyed excitement at the Elves riding the Warcraft Pandas.
"I’m actually seeing the legendary Elves with my own eyes!"
"It’s true! They look just like the stories said—the perfect image of beauty, holiness, and nobility. Even Lady Lyanna is nothing compared to them!"
"No wonder the nobles are so crazy about Elves! They really are gorgeous!"
"I swore I’d spend my whole life studying magic, but seeing these beautiful Elves... my vow feels like dust compared to this!"
"And look! Besides the Elves, there are giant golems and unicorns! Good heavens! Did they all come out of the Forest? How come nobody’s ever seen them before?"
"What are those things flying up there? Are those Elves too?"
"I don’t know, but they have
to be Elves! Only Elves could look that beautiful! They’ve got wings and flowers in their hair... They’re just stunning!"....
A ripple of pure shock went through every human there.
Everyone watched, completely hooked, as the Elven army drew near. Even the young women and noble ladies in the crowd were totally lost in the Elves’ beauty.
At that exact moment. Countless gasps and dreamy sighs came from the human women.
It didn’t matter if they were commoner girls or highborn ladies; they all stared, completely captivated, at the Elf King riding a stunning unicorn at the very front of the army.
Elf King Renjiro, wearing his crown, with his handsome face and noble air, perfectly embodied what people called ’infinite charm’.
"That Elf... he’s so handsome~"
"Oh my... I think I’m falling in love."
"I swear to the great God, not a single nobleman in City is even half as good-looking as him!"
"He must be one of the legendary Elves too, right?"
"Not just an Elf—he must be royalty! I bet he’s the Elf King!"
"Of course! He shines like the sun in the sky, so bright and amazing!"
"Ooooh~ Your Majesty the Elf King... how can anyone possibly be that handsome?"
"I really, really want to marry His Majesty the Elf King!"
"If I could just be near His Majesty, I’d happily wash his clothes and cook for him every single day!"
"Just look at His Majesty the Elf King... and then look at the smelly men standing around us. Ugh, it makes me sick!"
Suddenly, angry looks came from the men nearby. ’These girls... aren’t they scared they’d get smacked for insulting guys like that right out in public and that too on their faces?’
