I Became My Elf King Character In A Game-Like World
Chapter 82: A Stop Before The Mountains

Chapter 82: A Stop Before The Mountains

Back in the Elven Lands:

Renjiro thought about finding proper houses for the charming little tree spirits, but they kindly turned down his offer. As he learned, their way of living was quite different from the elves’.

With a simple gesture, one of the tree spirits waved her hand. Instantly, a magnificent, large tree sprang up before Renjiro. Its trunk was dotted with smooth, round openings.

"Your Majesty, we shall take our rest now," a spirit announced gently.

One by one, the lovely tree spirits gracefully flew into the holes in the tree. This, Renjiro realized, was their home, a unique, portable dwelling they could summon wherever they went.

Curious, Renjiro peeked into one of the openings. He saw a miniature world inside: a cozy bed woven from wood and vines, tiny wooden furniture arranged neatly, and even a small supply of fresh fruit.

"Truly an astonishing people!" Renjiro breathed, deeply impressed.

Suddenly, a tree spirit popped her head out of her doorway, her cheeks tinged with shyness. "Your Majesty," she whispered, "if it pleases you, you are welcome to come inside and see my home."

More hopeful, beautiful faces peered out from the surrounding holes, their eyes fixed on Renjiro. Having the Elf King visit their humble homes would be the greatest honor they could imagine.

Renjiro, however, gently declined.

With so many spirits eager to host him, visiting each home would simply take too long. He also had the responsibilities of the Elf King weighing on him.

As Renjiro turned to leave, a collective sigh of disappointment rippled through the tree spirits.

But their spirits lifted quickly. They soon began flitting about, cheerfully greeting one another. Ever hospitable, they didn’t miss the chance to invite any passing elves into their tree homes, warmly offering them delicious fruit.

....

Walking toward the Elven Royal Palace, Renjiro instructed Sylphie to return and rest.

As he crossed a small plaza, his eyes caught an elegant figure standing quietly beneath the towering statue erected in his own image.

"My dear Leader of the Mage Squad," Renjiro greeted her warmly. "Still awake at this late hour? Shouldn’t you be resting?"

"Your Majesty." Lorien’s breath caught as Renjiro walked closer. A soft smile graced her lips, but her voice held a hint of nervousness. "I finished my meditation and thought a short walk would be nice. Your Majesty... the Mercenary Group, have they been dealt with?"

Her question made Renjiro wonder if she had been waiting there specifically for him.

He gave her a reassuring, confident smile. "They were merely human mercenaries banded together. They have been dealt with accordingly!!"

Lorien let out a soft sigh, visible relief washing over her.

Renjiro chuckled softly. "You should get some rest now. We’ll likely be heading to the mountains in two days’ time."

"Yes, Your Majesty! Please, rest well yourself!" Lorien avoided his gaze, gave a swift, respectful salute, and quickly walked away.

Renjiro watched her retreating figure for a moment before his attention returned to the impressive, lifelike statue that loomed dozens of meters high. Lorien herself had poured her skill into carving it.

’Elves, the Elf King, the Elf Queen... tradition dictates so much,’ Renjiro mused silently. ’But traditions and rules are made by people. And anything made by people can be changed... or broken. What’s the point of coming to a whole new world if you don’t shake things up a little?’ He smiled inwardly. ’Besides, I’m not just some mindless conqueror obsessed with killing.’

....

Two Days Later:

A formidable host of elves emerged from the deep woods.

At the very front rode Renjiro, Elaria, and the three high-ranking elf Leaders, all recently advanced to the eighth stage of power. They sat atop majestic, snow-white unicorns whose presence radiated purity and strength.

Following close behind were ten towering golems, each standing over twenty meters tall, their stone forms promising immense power. Alongside them, the air shimmered with the fluttering wings of the beautiful tree spirits.

Behind the golems marched the Huntresses in perfect formation, ten thousand skilled warriors mounted on sleek, powerful black panthers. And seated behind each Huntress, sharing the ride, was an equally skilled Elven Archer.

All told, Renjiro led an army of twenty thousand elves towards the mountains.

Another twenty thousand elf warriors remained within their territory, under orders from Renjiro to defend the elven lands should any opportunistic human forces dare to attack in their absence.

....

At the Head of the Marching Column:

Elaria rode beside Renjiro, a question in her eyes. "Your Majesty, forgive my asking, but why are we marching east? The mountains lie to the southeast. Heading directly east takes us on a detour, closer to human lands and the city."

Renjiro explained, "We’re making a stop at the city first. Let’s give those humans a little reminder of our strength, and discourage any foolish ideas in their mind. And while we’re there, we can sell the magic cores we acquired from the ogre tribe."

He desperately needed the funds. With only a handful of gold coins left, Renjiro couldn’t even afford to summon basic archers. Selling the magic cores, however, could yield millions in gold, enough to bolster his forces, summon powerful new units, or fund future plans.

To Renjiro, gold represented security. The more he possessed, the safer he, and his people, felt. ’Give me more,’ he thought wryly, ’and I might just decide to conquer the human cities tomorrow, seize their lands and their precious gold mines.’

Elaria considered his words, a slight frown touching her features. "But Your Majesty, won’t marching near the city expose our strength and numbers to the humans?"

Renjiro met her gaze with a knowing smile. "Exposure is inevitable, Elaria. It’s only a matter of time. Once we resolve the situation in the mountains, I intend to formally establish the Elven Land right here in this forest. We will hold a grand ceremony and invite delegations from all races. Our existence will be known to the world then, make no mistake."

Understanding dawned on Elaria’s face, replaced by a spark of excitement. She nodded, her eyes bright with anticipation for the dawning of the new Elven City.
