Chapter 58: Negotiations?! Nah! Its Denand!
Elaria’s gaze was unwavering. "We do not risk our lives on unverified things."
A tense silence filled the hall.
Lyanna took a breath and changed the subject. "In any case, Your Majesty, I hope you’ll allow our guild a few days to gather more gold coins." She had no intention of letting another merchant group steal this opportunity. She had to acquire Renjiro’s treasures—especially the magical beast’s corpse which was stronger than the ninth-circle beast.
Renjiro chuckled, his expression unreadable. "No rush."
He lifted his right hand, and in an instant, over twenty wooden crates materialized in the hall. Goods and silver artifacts gleamed under the light, while magic cores sparkled like captured starlight.
Lyanna, Gorren, and Lyra froze. Their eyes widened in disbelief.
The sheer wealth before them was staggering.
Lyanna swallowed. "Your Majesty... what exactly do you mean by this?"
Renjiro smiled. "Lady Lyanna, first, count the value of everything here in gold coins. Then we’ll discuss the rest."
Lyanna hesitated, then nodded. "Understood."
She and Gorren immediately set to work.
Meanwhile, Renjiro turned to Elaria. With a subtle gesture, he motioned for her to follow him into a chamber behind the hall.
Once they were alone, he spoke in a low voice. "Elaria, now that we know the gold mine is in the Mountains, can we find it on our own?"
Elaria quickly grasped Renjiro’s plan.
He intended to bypass the Ironcrest Merchant Guild entirely, journey straight to the Mountains, locate the rumored gold mine, and begin mining it himself.
Concern flickered across Elaria’s face. "Your Majesty, the Mountains lie dangerously close to the beast tribe’s border. There are rumors of a dragon spirit dwelling there. It’s extremely risky. Besides, our elves have no experience in gold mining."
Renjiro, unfazed, waved a hand dismissively. "You worry too much. Sooner or later, we’ll have to face the beast tribe anyway. As for the dragon spirit..." He smirked. "I have a artifact that can turn it into a sheep... did you forget?!."
Elaria blinked. Did she hear that right?
Ignoring her reaction, Renjiro continued, "And about mining the gold..." He paused, letting suspense build, then smiled mischievously. "Elves are the perfect miners."
"Huh?" Elaria echoed, confusion clear in her voice.
She had grown from a small elf into the adult elf she was today, but never once had she heard that elves were natural miners. What was he talking about?
Renjiro leaned forward, his tone light yet confident. "I’ve been paying attention. The elves born from the Eternal Tree have changed. They’ve developed two unique talents: one is collecting gold, the other is... well, self-destruction." He chuckled. "We’ll ignore the exploding part for now. Their gold-collecting ability is incredible. They can wrap their power around raw gold ore and refine it into perfect coins—no smelting or forging required."
Elaria was stunned.
That wasn’t just impressive—it was outright bizarre.
’Elves as miners?’ She struggled to wrap her mind around the idea. ’But if his majesty said it, it had to be true.’
Still, a bigger problem remained. She furrowed her brows, thinking back to the crucial point. "Your Majesty, the Mountains are vast, and we’ve never explored them. Finding a hidden gold mine in unfamiliar territory would be incredibly... difficult."
Renjiro frowned, considering her words. "In that case, we might have to negotiate with the Ironcrest Merchant Guild after all."
Elaria hesitated before asking, "But why do you want that gold mine so badly? We can sell our goods and demand payment in gold coins. If Ironcrest can’t afford it, we can work with other guilds in the city. Besides, we don’t need their fresh fruit or honey anymore."
These days, elves thrived on the Water of Life. Fresh fruit and honey were mere luxuries—pleasant but far from essential.
Yet Renjiro shook his head. "No. We must secure that gold mine."
His voice was firm, leaving no room for doubt.
Elaria studied him carefully. She was his future elf queen, but even she wasn’t known to all his secrets. Renjiro couldn’t reveal the truth—that this was a direct mission from his System, one that only he could see.
Determined, Elaria grabbed his wrist. "Then let’s lower its market value. Lyanna claims it’s worth over ten million gold coins, but I think we can push it down to eight million—or even less."
Renjiro laughed, his admiration for her growing. "That’s my elf queen!"
....
Lyanna and Gorren, the mage, were meticulously counting the value of the goods, silver artifacts, and magic cores. Meanwhile, Lyra was nowhere to be seen—likely wandering somewhere outside.
Renjiro wasn’t concerned. The elves stationed around the area would keep an eye on her, ensuring she didn’t go into restricted zones.
Truth be told, he found Lyra rather amusing. Not in a romantic sense, of course—he simply enjoyed her personality. Unlike her sister Lyanna, who was a sharp and calculating merchant, Lyra was a free spirit: innocent, lively, and utterly devoid of scheming.
In terms of appearance, both sisters were undeniably beautiful. But among the elves, beauty was a given. Every elf in their land possessed grace and elegance that could rival them.
After nearly two hours, the tally was complete. Lyanna and Gorren wiped sweat from their brows, exhaustion visible on their faces, but the satisfaction of a completed task shone through.
Renjiro, now seated on his throne, looked at Lyanna. "Lady Lyanna, all done?"
Lyanna nodded. "Yes, Your Majesty. We’ve appraised everything—the goods and silver items, the magic cores, and a handful of rare gems. The total value comes to around six million gold coins. Since you’ve agreed to sell at ninety percent of the market price, that brings our cost to five million four hundred thousand gold coins."
Renjiro leaned forward slightly. "Throw in the body of that beast, and let’s round it up to six million gold coins."
Lyanna hesitated briefly before nodding.
A strong beast than the ninth-circle beast’s corpse was a treasure trove of rare materials, and with her guild’s expertise, they could extract its full worth. Six hundred thousand gold coins to cover it? It wasn’t a bad deal.
But just as she agreed, Renjiro dropped a bombshell.
"You don’t need to gather the gold coins." His voice was calm, almost casual. "Take all the goods and silver artifacts, magic cores, and gems right now. Just hand over the map to that gold mine."
Silence. Lyanna froze, certain she had misheard.
Her mind reeled. According to the Ironcrest Merchant Guild’s detailed assessments, that gold mine was worth at least ten million gold coins. And here was this elf king, demanding it in exchange for six million?
That was greedier than a dragon hoarding treasure!
For all his charm, his striking presence—being handsome didn’t excuse robbery!
