Chapter 53: A Knight’s Baa-d Decision

Chapter 53: A Knight’s Baa-d Decision

Selena’s eyes burned with anger as she addressed Renjiro. "Your Majesty, these human mercenaries were hiding during our battle with the Dark Wolves, using a spell to hide themselves. They were spying on us. Clearly, they had ulterior motives."

One of the mercenaries, a rugged-looking man with a scar across his cheek, quickly shook his head. "No, we were just passing by!"

Renjiro wasn’t convinced. His gaze swept over the group, noting their ragged state and the nervous way they avoided looking directly at him. He had a good idea of what they were after. Just like the Dark Wolf Leader, their target had likely been the unicorns or them or to be exact Elf Girls.

"I’ve heard that in the human world, a single unicorn can sell for over hundreds of thousands gold coins," Renjiro said, his voice cool. "Even then, they’re nearly impossible to find. If you managed to catch even one, you’d be set for life."

The mercenaries’ faces paled.

"Your Majesty, you misunderstand!" one of them stammered. "We came here to hunt magical beasts and sell their cores. Everyone knows that unicorns are just like myths and legend, we didn’t even know they were here and even if we did we wouldn’t dare try to capture one!"

Another, a middle-aged mage with streaks of gray in his hair, stepped forward. He radiated the power of a ninth-Circle mage, a level of strength that could make him a major figure in human cities. But right now, even a mage was nothing more than a desperate man begging for his life.

"Your majesty," the mage said carefully, "if you let us go, I’ll tell you a secret—one that will be of great value to you."

Renjiro’s eyes flicked to him. "A secret?"

The mage nodded eagerly. "Yes. In the city, I’ve heard rumors that a some of greedy nobles has hired the a Mercenary Group—an elite force—to capture elves as slaves. Everyone knows how valuable elves are. Their beauty alone makes them worth a fortune, and certain nobles are willing to spend mountains of gold to get their hand on them."

Renjiro’s expression didn’t change. "If that’s your so-called secret, then I’ll send you to meet the goddess or god you worship."

The mage flinched, realizing his information wasn’t impressive enough to buy his life. Desperate, he quickly added, "The leader of the that Mercenary Group is a strong knight! He and his warriors hail from the capital. It’s said that his knight’s greatsword once cut off the head of a young fire type dragon!"

Renjiro let out a quiet chuckle, the corner of his mouth lifting in amusement.

"A dragon slayer?" His tone held a trace of mockery.

In human society, the title of dragon slayer carried immense prestige, but to him, it meant little. A strong knight was strong—capable of single-handedly destroying a city—but in Renjiro’s eyes, they weren’t worth fearing at least not too much.

After all, even a their strong knight would be nothing in front of his system artifact.

Because his dagger was a cheat-level weapon. If he wished, he could turn even the strongest of knights into a helpless sheep with a single swing. A strong knight? Even an entire battalion of them wouldn’t be enough to threaten him.

Selena spoke, her voice cold. "Your Majesty, we lost several of our people capturing these men."

The middle-aged mage hurriedly defended himself. "Your majesty, our mercenary group has already lost over a dozen men to your archers! And besides, neither I nor others, our great knight, fought with our full strength. We were just trying to escape! If we had gone all out, those elves wouldn’t just be wounded—they’d be dead!"

Renjiro raised an eyebrow. "So, you’re saying I should thank you for holding back?"

The mage paled, realizing too late how foolish his words sounded. "Your Majesty, I—" Before he could finish, the knight suddenly lunged forward.

He moved with explosive speed, aiming straight for Renjiro. His plan was obvious—grab Renjiro and use him as a hostage to force the elves into letting them go.

Elaria reacted instantly, ready to unleash the Protection spell, a powerful defensive spell. But she didn’t need to. Renjiro had already drawn his dagger.

The dagger shimmered in his hand as he casually swung it through the air.

The knight hadn’t even closed half the distance between them before he was transformed into a sheep, frozen mid-charge. He hit the ground with a soft thud, blinking in confusion, his powerful aura vanishing in an instant.

The middle-aged mage gasped.

"It’s that Fucking move again!"

The mercenaries had witnessed this terrifying power earlier—when Renjiro had used it on the Dark Wolf Leader, reducing the once-feared beast to nothing more than a helpless animal. That poor wolf had nearly been torn apart by its own starving pack.

The mage’s breath hitched. Could it be?

"It must be the Transformation magic!" he whispered. Those were his final words as a human.

Renjiro swung the dagger once more, and in the next instant, the middle-aged mage and the other three mercenaries transformed into sheep, their terrified expressions still visible on their fuzzy faces.

"Baaaah!!"

The middle-aged mage—now a trembling, wool-covered creature—stared at Renjiro in utter terror.

He couldn’t understand. He had given up valuable information. He hadn’t fought back. He hadn’t killed a single elf. And yet, Renjiro still wouldn’t spare him?

But what he didn’t understand was that none of that mattered.

The only thing that mattered was this: they had conspired against the elves. They had set their sights on the unicorns and them.

Those two crimes alone were enough to seal their fate.

Renjiro turned to Selena. "Take them away. Do as you see fit."

Selena bowed. "Yes, Your Majesty."

With a flick of her hand, a squad of archers moved in. The five sheep were dragged off, bleating pitifully. Moments later, distant screams echoed through the trees.

Renjiro didn’t bother looking back.

Instead, he mounted the Unicorn Leader, feeling the powerful muscles beneath him as the majestic beast stepped forward. Around him, his vast army stood ready, now joined by over a hundred unicorns.

Together, they began their journey back to his territory.

At that moment, the familiar chime of the system echoed in his mind.

[Ding!]

[Congratulations, for completing Newbie Mission 4: Wipe out the Dark Wolf clan and kill the Dark Wolf Leader ruling the southern Forest area. Reward received: Successfully unlocked the Hunter’s Hall building for the Elf Territory.]

[Congratulations, for completing Side Mission 1: Rescue the unicorns. You’ve earned the loyalty of the Unicorn Leader and other unicorns.]

[Please keep up the effort. Build a powerful Elf Territory!]

A smirk crossed Renjiro’s lips. With this, he had completed two missions in a single sweep—one main mission and one side mission.

As for Side Mission 2—[Teach the greedy Ironcrest Merchant Guild a lesson]—he had already dealt with that yesterday.

He had turned Theron, their great knight, along with the guild’s high-Circle knights and mages, into sheep.

Then, he had demanded the compensation from them of two million gold coins, a sum that would be too much for them if they agreed and if they did not agree only one thing was coming to them.
