I Became My Elf King Character In A Game-Like World -
Chapter 116: Past
Chapter 116: Past
Elaria voiced their confusion, her tone laced with disbelief. "Your Majesty," she asked hesitantly, "are they... are they truly Druids? Does that mean they also possess the high-level Druid secrets and transformation methods known to our ancient elves?" She sounded hopeful, yet doubtful.
Renjiro shook his head gently. "No, not exactly," he explained. "These Claw Druids are a specific type of unit, rank 3.9 if we categorize them. They are different from the traditional Druids of our elf history. Their main talent, their specialty, is transforming into powerful War Bears."
Hearing this, Elaria and the three elf commanders couldn’t hide their sudden wave of disappointment. Their faces fell slightly. Ah, so not those kinds of Druids.
Renjiro offered a reassuring smile. "Don’t worry," he said kindly. "I believe that one day, our elf people will regain the lost knowledge and master the true Druid professions once again."
Elaria let out a soft sigh, a mix of longing and sadness in her eyes.
"I hope that day comes soon!" she murmured.
Her thoughts drifted to the legends. "The Druids of our ancient elf family... they weren’t limited to just becoming War Bears! They could shift into swift cheetahs, soaring eagles, agile sea lions... even, Your Majesty... even into mighty Dragons! I read about it in the old elf histories kept safe in the libraries a biography of a great, previous Elf King from ages past. It said he once led an entire army of powerful Dragon Druids, elves who could take the form of dragons! With them, he fought and killed the terrifying Lava Demons who dared to challenge the Elf Empire..."
....
Renjiro felt a jolt of surprise hearing this confirmed.
He’d personally looked through many of the ancient elf records stored in the treasury after claiming the city, but he hadn’t read all of them yet. There were simply too many.
He hadn’t realized that the legendary Elf Empire of old actually had an army composed of elf Druids who could transform into dragons.
That was incredible!
You had to understand, a Druid’s transformation wasn’t just some simple illusion or disguise. It was a real, physical change down to their very being.
When a Druid became a bear, they gained the bear’s immense strength and tough defense.
When they became a leopard, they gained the leopard’s incredible agility and blinding speed.
When they became an eagle, they gained the eagle’s ability to fly freely through the skies and its incredibly sharp eyesight.
So, if an elf Druid transformed into a mighty dragon... then that elf Druid would possess all the terrifying power of a true dragon. Strength, tough scales, flight... If an elf Druid transformed into a dragon could also learn to speak the dragon language, they might even be able to unleash powerful Dragon-tongue magic and breathe devastating dragon fire!
You could definitely say...
An elf Druid transformed into a dragon was, in almost every important way, equal to a real dragon.
Renjiro thought secretly, his mind racing, "No wonder the ancient Elf Territory was powerful enough to rule nearly half of the entire Continent back in its day! Besides the incredibly strong Ancient Elves themselves, they also had a terrifying army of Dragon Druids!"
"It’s just such a pity," Renjiro lamented inwardly, "that the path for elves to advance into these amazing Druid forms has somehow been lost to time!"
A heavy sigh escaped Renjiro’s lips before he could stop it.
He had no idea how that precious knowledge was lost, or why it vanished. The records he’d seen didn’t say.
He suspected that even Elaria, with all her deep knowledge of elf history, probably didn’t know the full story either.
The elf writings mentioned the existence of powerful Druids in the past, but seemed completely silent on why they disappeared. All they knew for sure was that elves once had this incredible power, and now they didn’t.
Bringing his attention back to the present, Renjiro looked at the group of Claw Druids standing before him. These might not be the legendary Dragon Druids, but they still had their uses.
He turned to his three elf army commanders. "Listen carefully," he instructed. "When these Claw Druids transform into their War Bear form, they can release a special aura around them. It’s similar to the battle cry aura some Orc warbands use. It strengthens allies nearby, making them tougher and fiercer. Elves nearby can heal any wounds they take from using it. You must remember this tactical advantage."
Renjiro knew he couldn’t be present to personally direct every single battle they would face in the future.
Therefore, it was crucial that his commanders, Lorien, Selena, and Lirael, understood the unique talents and abilities of all the different elf troop types he summoned.
The three elf commanders nodded seriously, one after another, showing they understood.
Lorien, ever the sharp tactician, spoke up first. "Your Majesty, I believe the Claw Druids’ totem aura will be extremely useful for the Elf Hunters."
Renjiro looked at her expectantly.
Lorien continued, "This is because the Elf Hunters are a melee class, needing to engage the enemy in close combat. Having that totem aura boosting their strength and resilience right there on the front lines would make the Elf Hunters even more deadly and harder to kill."
Selena and Lirael nodded in agreement with Lorien’s assessment. It made perfect sense.
Compared to the Hunters...
The Elf Archers wouldn’t benefit quite as much from the Claw Druids’ close-range aura.
Why? Because the Elf Archers typically fought from the back lines, needing only to stand safely at the edge of the battlefield and rain down deadly volleys of arrows. With the tough Giant Golems using their war taunts to draw the enemy’s attention and attacks, the Elf Archers were usually safe enough already to deliver devastating blows from afar. They didn’t often need the close-combat boost.
Renjiro’s gaze lingered on Lorien for a moment, appreciating her quick understanding of how these new units could fit into their army’s strategy.
