I Became My Elf King Character In A Game-Like World -
Chapter 106: Rest
Chapter 106: Rest
"Do you really think the Orcs care about you?" he asked, his voice steady. "To them, kobolds are just pawns. They won’t start a war for your sake."
The chieftain’s face twisted with anger. "You elves are nothing!" he growled. "Your time is over! The age of elven glory is long gone!"
Renjiro’s lips curved into a small smile. "Then a new age starts today," he said simply, his words carrying a quiet strength that made the air feel heavier.
The chieftain’s eyes widened, fear creeping into his snarl. "You’re leading your people to ruin!" he shouted, his voice cracking. "This continent belongs to stronger races now. There’s no place left for elves!"
Renjiro didn’t answer right away. He just watched the chieftain, letting the words hang in the air. The old kobold’s fear was clear now, his bravado crumbling.
In a final, desperate act, he raised his spear and screamed, "For the Tribe! For the glory of the Orc King!" His guards echoed his cry, and together, they charged at Renjiro, their weapons gleaming with Ocktem’s fading power.
Renjiro sighed, almost bored. With a lazy flick of his hand, he sent a wave of fire roaring forward. The flames were bright orange, so hot they turned the ground beneath to glass.
The chieftain and his guards didn’t even have time to scream. The fire swallowed them, leaving nothing but a pile of ash where they’d stood. "Your glory means nothing," Renjiro said softly, his voice barely a whisper.
The battlefield was quiet now, the only sound the faint crackle of embers. Renjiro stood still, his eyes scanning the destruction.
The chieftain’s words echoed in his mind—no place left for elves
. He knew there was truth in them. The elves had no homeland anymore. They’d fought tooth and nail just to hold onto their forests, scraping by while stronger races carved up the continent. It wasn’t fair, and it wasn’t right.
His jaw tightened. "War," he said, his voice low but firm. "We need war. War fixes everything." He could see it clearly now—a fire spreading across the continent, burning away the old powers, making room for the elves to rise again.
He imagined battles raging from the forests to the mountains, even to the far-off realms where dragons slept. War would be their answer, their path to reclaiming what was lost.
A soft hoofbeat broke his thoughts. Lorien, one of his lieutenants, rode up on a sleek white horse. Her armor gleamed in the dim light, and her hair was tied back, a few strands loose from the fight.
"The camp’s clear, Your Majesty," she reported, her voice steady but tired. "We burned all the bodies with elven fire. There was nothing worth keeping."
Renjiro nodded, but his eyes lingered on her for a moment longer than necessary. Lorien was strong, loyal, and... beautiful, he realized, not for the first time.
Her sharp cheekbones, the way her eyes caught the light—it stirred something in him, a flicker of warmth amid the cold thoughts of war. He pushed the feeling aside, but it lingered, like a spark waiting to catch.
"Thank you, Lorien," he said, his voice softer than before.
....
Renjiro standing in the ash-strewn field, his mind torn between the battles ahead and the quiet beauty of the elf who’d just left his side.
The smell of ash still lingered, but the elves were settling in, their fires casting a warm glow over the tents.
Lorien approached, her steps light but sure. Her hair caught the firelight, framing her face like a halo, and her armor gleamed faintly.
She moved with grace, her beauty striking even after the long day of battle. Renjiro’s eyes lingered on her for a moment, his thoughts flickering before he caught himself.
"Your Majesty," Lorien said, bowing her head respectfully, her voice clear and steady.
Renjiro smiled, a small chuckle escaping him. "No need for all that, Lorien," he said warmly. "Let the troops rest here tonight. They’ve earned it. But I need you to take a small team and scout for the gold mine. Find its exact spot."
Lorien nodded, her expression focused. "Understood, Your Majesty. I’ll leave at once." She turned, her horse already waiting, and rode off into the dusk with a few trusted elves at her side. Renjiro watched her go, her figure fading into the shadows of the trees.
As he turned back, he noticed Elaria standing nearby, her hair glowing faintly under the rising moon. She was watching him, her eyes sharp and thoughtful, a strange look on her face.
Renjiro raised an eyebrow, stepping closer with a playful grin. "What’s that look for? Is there dirt on my face or something?"
Elaria’s lips twitched, but her voice was serious. "It’s not that, Your Majesty," she said softly. "I was thinking about our old ways... the rules of the elven royal family."
Renjiro’s grin faded slightly. He knew that look. Elaria had seen right through him, caught the flicker of his thoughts about Lorien.
Her words weren’t just about tradition—they were a gentle reminder. He stepped closer, his voice low and earnest. Taking her hand, he looked into her eyes.
"Elaria," he said, "I swear to you, you’ll be my queen. My only Elf Queen. No one else."
Elaria’s cheeks flushed, but she held his gaze, her voice careful. "The royal bloodline matters, Renjiro. It must stay pure. Our people expect it... for the future, for the strength of the elves."
Renjiro laughed softly, brushing off her worry with a wave of his hand. "Blood purity? What’s that worth when you and I will live forever? We’ll build something greater than tradition, Elaria. You’ll see."
She hesitated, her eyes searching his face, but before she could argue, Renjiro tugged her hand gently.
With a swift motion, he lifted her onto Sylphie’s back, the unicorn snorting softly as he climbed up behind her. "See?" he teased, his arms steady around her. "Breaking old rules is easy."
Elaria glanced back at him, her serious expression softening into a shy, playful smile. "Your Majesty..." she murmured, her voice warm with a hint of flirtation.
Renjiro just grinned, urging Sylphie into a gentle trot as they rode through the camp, the elves around them casting curious glances.
