I am Villain Cultivator
Chapter 49: Charles Kilvish Last Stand

Chapter 49: Chapter 49: Charles Kilvish Last Stand

Charles turned his gaze upward. Behind him, the celestial Sword Maiden shimmered like a divine spectre, her presence sustained by the very flames of his dwindling life force. Each breath he took scorched his lungs, yet his eyes held unwavering determination.

Then he looked at Adaeze, who hovered in the sky with arms folded, his body wreathed in a storm of lightning.

"If my life is the price to take down one of the Ten Heavenly Dragons," Charles said with a weary smile, "don’t you think it’s worth it?"

Adaeze raised an eyebrow and then let out a booming laugh, sharp as thunder. "Just because you left a scratch on me... You believe you can take my life?"

His Qi surged violently. Bolts of black lightning danced across his body before coalescing above him into the monstrous form of a dragon, sleek, serpentine, and brimming with destructive intent. Its eyes crackled with malice, and each beat of its wings tore the clouds apart.

"Let me break your little fantasy," Adaeze said coldly. "The title of Heavenly Dragon isn’t ornamental. It wasn’t given to ten people on this planet as some symbolic honour. It’s an acknowledgement that even without stepping into the Divine Realm, we can fight Divine Realm cultivators."

His voice was laced with pride and absolute certainty.

Charles, however, did not flinch.

He knew better than most what Adaeze meant; his wife, Bella, the Divine Ice Dragon, was one of the Ten Heavenly Dragons. He had witnessed her might, her Dao, and her indomitable spirit. That title was no exaggeration.

"You’re right," Charles said softly. "Even with my life force burning, I’m no match for you in power."

Then he extended his hand, and a golden formation plate appeared in his palm.

"But you’ve forgotten something critical. Where are you fighting? This is my clan"

The moment the plate activated, golden runes surged outward in all directions. In the blink of an eye, the battlefield was engulfed in intricate symbols etched in air and stone. The very atmosphere trembled, and the heavens seemed to shudder.

A resonant hum followed a low, unearthly tone that made even the cultivators watching from afar instinctively step back.

Adaeze’s pupils contracted. "This is..."

"Level Eight Formation," Charles declared, his voice gaining weight. "Void Lock Domain."

The golden runes locked into place like the bars of an ancient prison, encasing the battlefield in an impenetrable dome. As the formation sealed, a tremendous pressure descended upon the space within.

Adaeze immediately felt that his Qi slowed, the circulation stifled. His soul trembled, his Dao connection wavered, and the form of his lightning dragon began to flicker.

His expression darkened.

"You... you dare seal my Dao?"

"This is one of the three ancient advanced formations of the Kilvish Clan," Charles said, his voice steady. "A domain that suppresses Qi, locks the soul, and severs one’s Dao from the world. Even Divine Realm cultivators cannot wield their full power inside."

He took a step forward. His sword Maiden hovered behind him, her blade slowly rising.

"You’re strong, Adaeze," Charles admitted. "But in this space... You bleed like any other."

Adaeze clenched his fists. His lightning hissed and sparked, but the black dragon above him had dulled to a translucent shadow. For the first time since the battle began, caution overtook his confidence.

Charles raised his sword.

And the Void Lock Domain, forged in secret and safeguarded for centuries, began to serve its purpose.

The skies had grown deathly still, wrapped in the heavy silence that follows a mighty explosion. Smoke curled across the battlefield, still thick with the scent of blood and ozone. Adaeze, the Heavenly Dragon of the Storm Clan, narrowed his eyes, lightning crackling across his bruised frame. Charles Kilvish stood tall amidst the ruins, his breathing laboured, but his gaze fierce.

Behind him, the Sword Maiden shimmered like a celestial apparition, her presence tethered to the flames of Charles’ burning life force. The maiden glowed brighter, sword raised high as Charles’s determination reached its peak.

Then, she vanished.

In the blink of an eye, she appeared directly in front of Adaeze.

"Shadow Infinite First Form: Genesis."

The words echoed like judgment.

A slash, infused with Charles’ Dao, swept forward like a cosmic arc of annihilation. Adaeze reacted instinctively, summoning the Black Lightning Dragon. The spectral beast screeched as it lunged to block the attack.

But the Void Lock Domain had already taken its toll.

The black lightning flickered, weakened and unstable. The Sword Maiden’s slash cleaved through it with terrifying ease, slicing the dragon in half as if it were made of paper.

Adaeze ducked at the last second, narrowly avoiding the horizontal sword light. But Charles wasn’t finished.

Planting his left foot into the ground, Charles twisted his waist with explosive torque, spinning midair to deliver a right-leg roundhouse kick aimed at Adaeze’s crouched form.

What was more shocking—

The Sword Maiden mimicked his movements.

In perfect sync, she mirrored his spinning kick, her divine right leg crashing into Adaeze’s face.

Adaeze flew backwards like a broken arrow, skidding across the cratered ground. He groaned, pushing himself up, dazed but not defeated.

Charles remained in his stance. One hand at the hilt of his sword, his eyes calm yet wild with flame.

Clank.

The sound of steel echoed as both Charles and the Sword Maiden assumed the same position—

Iaijutsu.

A silent draw of the sword. A flash faster than lightning.

"Shadow Infinite Second Form: Supernova."

The Sword Maiden vanished. A brilliant line of sword light flashed forward.

Adaeze roared, charging lightning into his palm to block. But the sheer speed of the cut broke his defence. A searing pain tore through his hand as blood sprayed into the air.

Adaeze staggered. His arrogance was now replaced by a growing sense of dread. With a snarl, he unleashed his final resort, his Blessing.

" You leave me no choice."

White lightning surged in his right hand—

And black lightning coiled in his left hand.

"Yin-Yang Lightning," he muttered. His skin glowed as the white Yang lightning began to heal his wounds, while the dark Yin lightning twisted into the form of a wicked black spear.

"I forgot... a cornered beast always bites back," Adaeze sneered, hurling the black spear with everything he had.

But the Sword Maiden was already moving.

"Shadow Infinite Third Form: Galaxy."

Her sword sang as it moved through space like a heavenly comet. With a single slash, she cleaved the black lightning spear in two, its remnants dissipating harmlessly into ash.

Adaeze tried to catch his breath, when suddenly—

The Sword Maiden appeared again.

No warning.

Another Iai stance.

Another flash of steel.

"Shadow Infinite Second Form: Supernova."

This time, the slash was carved across Adaeze’s face and shoulder in a clean, devastating arc. Blood sprayed from the wound as his body crashed onto the ground.

"AHHH!" Adaeze screamed.

Charles walked forward, each step filled with the resolve of a dying man.

"Bella chose me over you," he said coldly, his sword in hand. "Because she saw in me what you never had a brain not to be drunk in your arrogance to attack enemies in their own home like an idiot, purpose, and the courage to die for something greater than pride."

Adaeze’s eyes widened in horror. Charles drove the sword through his chest.

The blade pierced his heart.

Blood flooded from Adaeze’s lips. His eyes glazed over. The Heavenly Dragon had fallen.

Charles stood still, the sword still embedded.

Then he exhaled.

"My life force is withering... I have five minutes left."

He looked toward the distant alliance battleships, the flying beasts, and the Divine Realm experts pressing their assault on the weakening Eclipse Veil Formation.

His eyes softened for a brief moment.

Forgive me, Bella... I won’t be there to celebrate your birthday.

Kaal... my son... even though you won the title of Young Shadow... I can’t be there to support your path.

He turned.

The wind stirred his torn robes. His sword glowed once more.

"Your father will not die an empty death," he whispered, voice trembling with conviction. "Today... I will carve my name into the bones of our enemies."

He began walking.

Toward the alliance forces.

Toward the ships.

Toward death—

With his sword and the last of his soul, a flame.
