Chapter 40: Kevin Haze vs Samrat Kilvis

Chapter 40: Chapter 40: Kevin Haze vs Samrat Kilvis

In the stillness of his chamber, Samrat sat cross-legged, deep in meditation as his Qi flowed steadily through his meridians. A soft glow pulsed around him, and the air shimmered faintly with spiritual energy. At the door, his loyal servant Reeve stepped in but paused, sensing the intensity of the moment. Realizing his master was amid Qi circulation, Reeve chose to wait in silence.

Two hours passed.

At last, Samrat’s breath stirred. A faint stream of white smoke escaped his lips, swirling momentarily before vanishing into the air. His eyes snapped open, sharp, focused, and gleaming with inner power. As his gaze settled, he found Reeve still standing, patiently waiting.

Reeve bowed respectfully. "Master," he said, "Kevin Haze, the young Storm Dragon of the Storm Clan, has issued a public challenge. He has called for a duel against all four finalists of the Grand Selection, including you."

Samrat’s brow twitched, a vein rising on his forehead. His eyes darkened with restrained fury.

"How dare he?" Samrat muttered, voice low and cold. "To challenge all four of us... he might as well say we’re worthless compared to him."

He rose to his feet, power still crackling faintly around him. Turning to Reeve, he spoke with calm resolve.

"Inform my father. I accept Kevin Haze’s challenge."

Samrat’s decision to accept the challenge quickly became the most talked-about event among the younger generation of the Kilvis Clan. Debate flared in every training hall, courtyard, and gathering. Some believed Samrat’s pride would carry him through; others scoffed, calling it a death wish. But amidst the noise, Ashen remained silent and unmoved. Deep down, he already knew Samrat would lose.

In the novel { Rise of the Demon Emperor }, Samrat’s arrogance had ultimately led to his downfall. He had once tried to force a marriage with Divya; he was after Divya’s Black Phoenix bloodline by marrying her, and his children also might awaken the black phoenix in the future.

That force marriage would eventually pave the way for his end, struck down by none other than the protagonist, Raven. Ironically, on the other hand, Raven’s greatest rival during the mid-arc of the novel was none other than Kevin Haze, the prodigy of the Storm Clan.

Ashen’s eyes narrowed slightly as he looked at the betting booth, where clan members were placing bets. He also bet on Kevin Haze because he knew a secret. He thought

’Kevin Haze was a Genius at the age of seventeen. He became the youngest Blessing Realm cultivator in the history of the Azure Continent. His innate talent, [Thunderstorm], was legendary. It allowed him not only to control lightning with terrifying precision but also to summon and manipulate entire storms in battle. Even Raven, the protagonist, despite his monstrous growth, had struggled against him.’

Divya, too, was watching the build-up with interest. Sitting in the guest pavilion, she cradled a porcelain cup of Greenheart tea, sipping with quiet elegance. Her emerald eyes reflected a calm curiosity, though her thoughts were sharp.

"The Twin Shadow Dragon of the Kilvis Clan versus the Young Storm Dragon of the Storm Clan..."

She smiled faintly.

"Samrat inherited the Kilvis Clan’s gravity manipulation technique from his father. Kevin, on the other hand, was born into the lightning arts. And if rumors are true, the Storm Clan is not just about elemental dominance... they’re brutal in close combat too."

The stage was set. The crowd buzzed.

The sun hung high over the Kilvis Clan Arena, its golden rays scattered by the towering clouds above. Today was no ordinary day. Whispers filled every corridor, and excitement buzzed in the air as disciples and elders alike gathered to witness a battle between two prodigies—Kevin Haze of the Storm Clan and Samrat Kilvis of the Kilvis Clan.

This was no ceremonial bout. This was war, raw, personal, and charged with pride.

At the center of the colossal stone platform stood Kevin Haze, clad in a sleeveless robe of crackling blue and silver, lightning coiling around his arms like serpents of divine wrath. His silver-white hair, streaked with glowing blue strands, danced in the air as if alive. His eyes, electric and unblinking, surveyed the field with unshaken confidence.

Across from him, Samrat Kilvis entered the arena in silence. A dark robe hugged his frame, torn at the edges from recent battles. His sword, forged from black aurichalcum and humming with a deadly pulse, rested on his back. His aura was like a steel blade, honed, silent, and lethal.

Spectators fell silent as the arena’s protective barrier flared to life with a translucent dome of energy.

The announcer, Elder Varun, stepped forward.

"Today, the Storm Dragon of the Storm Clan, Kevin Haze, challenges the pride of the Kilvis Clan, Samrat Kilvis. There will be no interference, no second chances. The victor shall be decided by power alone!"

A loud boom echoed as the starting bell rang.

Kevin didn’t hesitate. With a deafening crack, he disappeared in a flash of lightning, appearing behind Samrat in an instant, palm surging with thunder.

"Storm Step!"

Samrat pivoted smoothly, his blade unsheathing with a shrill cry. A single arc of black energy deflected the incoming blow, scattering lightning across the arena floor.

"You rely too much on speed," Samrat said, eyes narrowed. "Let’s see how your arrogance holds up against my blade."

With a roar, Samrat launched a series of slashes, precise, overwhelming, merciless. Each strike created a shockwave, forcing Kevin to dodge, his lightning barrier flickering as he absorbed each burst.

Kevin skidded back, a smirk still on his face.

"You’re fast, Kilvis... but not fast enough."

Raising his hand to the sky, Kevin summoned a spiraling vortex of clouds above the arena. Thunder roared as a colossal lightning spear began to form, Heaven-Sunder Spear.

Samrat narrowed his eyes. The moment Kevin released the spear, he raised his blade and channeled his Qi.

"Dark Emperor Sword: first form, Gravity repulsion."

A crescent slash of black energy, pulsing with his bloodline’s essence, tore through the air.

The lightning spear descended.

The dark crescent rose.

The two attacks met in a blinding explosion of light and sound, sending shockwaves through the crowd and shaking the arena itself. Dust clouded the arena, blinding the audience for several long seconds.

When it cleared, both warriors were still standing.

Kevin panted, his arm slightly scorched. Samrat’s robe was torn, his left arm bleeding, but he stood tall.

"I’ll admit it," Kevin said, wiping a line of blood from his lips. "You’re not just all bark, Samrat."

Samrat gave a short nod, eyes still locked on Kevin. "This isn’t over."

A grudging silence fell.

Both warriors turned their backs to each other and began to walk away, neither victorious, neither defeated, but both changed.

This clash was only the beginning.
