I am the Zombie King of the Apocalyptic World -
Chapter 975 - 972: Just in Case
Chapter 975: Chapter 972: Just in Case
Nangong Ming nodded calmly. Although he was seriously injured, there was no expression of pain on his face, nor any fear of the impending death.
Such people were the type Tang Ye disliked the most.
He nodded as if resigned to his fate, but a few seconds later, he looked at Tang Ye and said, "Since it’s like this, I’ll accept it. Li Henian, I admit you are the most promising young person I have ever seen, but I still have to remind you, as the ruler of the United District, with such a high status, you should know who I am. Killing me will bring the pursuit of the Hidden Dragon Society upon you. Are you sure you want to take action against me?"
"Hidden Dragon Society?"
Tang Ye frowned. As the Marshal of the United District and thus the ruler mentioned by Nangong Ming, how could he not be aware of the current post-apocalyptic situation?
Of course, Tang Ye had heard of the Hidden Dragon Society, but they were far away, located at the Central China Yunxia Base, miles away. It was possible that his own United District might not come into contact with such a superpower for a long time, perhaps not even in his lifetime.
This power was complex for Tang Ye to deal with because it was immensely large, with many factions inside because it was established by orders from the central government before the government collapsed before the Apocalypse, and it controlled most of China’s resources.
This advantage was unmatched by other superpowers. He had heard of the Hidden Dragon Society, but what Nangong Ming mentioned — the Nangong Family — was not something Tang Ye was aware of. However, the way Nangong Ming spoke those words seemed to shroud the name in a noble and untouchable aura.
But soon, Hatred began to explain what the Nangong Family was all about. As a second-generation official before the Apocalypse, he naturally encountered much more than the average person.
"The Nangong Family belongs to one of the four major Chinese families, which includes the Zhang family, the Ye family, and the Dongfang family. These four families have established consortiums... In the circles I used to move in, these families were the ceiling of the upper society, and after the post-apocalyptic outbreak, these families would likely choose to join either the Hidden Dragon Society or Judgement Court. Given the Nangong Family’s power, they should have a considerable faction within the Hidden Dragon Society."
After hearing this, Tang Ye’s brow furrowed deeply. Honestly, this was indeed troublesome. Since becoming the ruler of the United District, he had also looked into the distribution of superpowers in other provinces and clearly understood as the leading power in the Chinese Continent.
The Judgement Court and the Hidden Dragon Society were so far the two strongest superpowers on the Chinese Continent, with the United District lagging far behind them in strength.
However, Tang Ye did not dwell on it too much. No matter how strong they were, so what? Weren’t they still being forced by zombies to hide in the Sanctuary Zones? In this post-apocalyptic world, zombies ruled, and as a Level 7 zombie himself, how could he be afraid of the power of a larger group of survivors?
As long as there were zombies in the ground, he could raise a massive zombie army at any time!
"Oh, that’s it? You think a Hidden Dragon Society can scare me?" A murderous intent flashed in Tang Ye’s eyes as he looked coldly at Nangong Ming.
The man laughed and said, "Hahaha, indeed, Li Henian, fearing neither heaven nor earth. Since that’s the case, well, let it be. Fate won’t favor me this time, so go ahead, make your move."
"Straightforward."
Tang Ye snorted coldly and then looked at Bai Huipeng, nodding at him. Bai Huipeng nodded back, understanding Tang Ye’s intention, and then stepped toward Nangong Ming.
"I will fulfill what I promised you."
"With your word, I can rest easy." A sense of relief and acceptance appeared in Nangong Ming’s eyes as he nodded and then shut his own eyes.
Bai Huipeng then drew his knife, stepped behind Nangong Ming, and the sharp, bone-chilling blade gradually approached Nangong Ming’s neck. The man offered no resistance until the flesh-piercing "pu-chi" was heard. The sharp blade slit Nangong Ming’s neck, and blood gushed out, staining the ground beneath him red.
Pulling out the blade, Bai Huipeng felt the life quickly fading from Nangong Ming’s body.
As he watched him die peacefully, Bai Huipeng felt some complexity in his heart. The old man had an extraordinary air about him, and he might have been an impressive young man like their Marshal at one time. But what of it? A hundred years later, he would be just like those who lived unremarkable lives, reduced to a handful of dust with all traces of his existence erased by the passage of time.
Perhaps many years in the future, there will be a young man just like himself, ending his life in the same way.
After extracting the blade from Nangong Ming’s neck, Bai Huipeng quickly thrust it forcefully into Nangong Ming’s head, mashing the brain to ensure prevention of his turning into a zombie after death. Higher-level humans turned into higher-level zombies after death, so in the post-apocalyptic world, the disposal of bodies must either involve brain destruction to prevent zombification or complete incineration.
But according to Nangong Ming’s burial request, which likely meant a burial in the earth, they could only opt for the former method to deal with his body.
After dealing with Nangong Ming’s body, Bai Huipeng grabbed the collar of his clothes, ready to leave, when he heard Tang Ye ask, "What did you promise him?"
"Oh, he said if he died, to bury him next to his wife’s grave. Ah, where is his wife’s grave?"
"In Yijin Zoo of Longyang City, he said there’s a small hill, and his wife is buried there."
"Alright, go ahead, but be careful. The zombies in Longyang City are a bit unusual. If you encounter silver zombies, you can be at ease. If they’re the usual zombies, you need to be cautious; they might attack you."
After speaking, Tang Ye was about to let Bai Huipeng leave, but suddenly remembered the shadow he had seen in Longyang City through Yu Guang’s eyes and added, "There might be Level 6 zombies there, and there’s even a possibility of Level 7 zombies appearing, though the chances are slim. But just to be safe, take this with you."
As he spoke, Tang Ye reached into his pocket, and when he brought his hand back out, there was something blood-red in it, resembling some kind of muscle tissue, looking soft to the touch.
Startled by Tang Ye’s words, Bai Huipeng had a surge of alarm. He often ventured into Longyang City, and the zombies there posed no threat to him anymore because they no longer attacked him. Even if they did, with his strength, he could escape the danger. He had thought it was a routine matter, but to his surprise, Tang Ye mentioned the possibility of Level 7 zombies?
Taking the "muscle tissue" from Tang Ye’s hands, it didn’t feel as soft as it looked. Instead, it resembled the fresh and tender heart of a living person, more like a rock to the touch.
