Chapter 864: Chapter 860: Fly to Space
What Su Sigui said left Tang Ye momentarily stunned, before he began to ponder over it. Although Su Sigui did not explicitly state her thoughts, Tang Ye somewhat understood the underlying message: she was implying that the attackers of the Peace Party members were not Jiuge, nor were they from the City of Bright Moon, nor any other external forces.
They were from within the United District itself! Those Level 4 New Humans and Level 5 New Humans were all from the United District! But who could they be?
"Hmm, thank you! I will agree to your terms, and accept the burden you’ve given me," Tang Ye sincerely expressed his gratitude. Perhaps he would find out who was responsible someday, but God knows when that would be. If he could resolve it sooner, he would do so as quickly as possible. Tang Ye did not want to continue suffering like this.
The incessant attacks on Peace Party members had left everyone within and outside the Party in a state of panic, not knowing when they themselves might be killed.
But apart from the first three words being true, the rest were just blurted out spontaneously by Tang Ye. Was he really going to die? Perhaps, but it was more likely that he would not, for Tang Ye knew that he was now a Level 7 zombified being. Those plots and schemes would be utterly ineffective against him—the most they could do was harm other Peace Party members. The thought of them killing him was laughable.
Unless, of course, a much more powerful opponent suddenly appeared and crushed him!
What Tang Ye did not realize was that the words he had spoken offhand would eventually become shackles that imprisoned him!
"You’re welcome," Su Sigui turned her head away, but then quickly looked back.
"Li Henian, now that you are so powerful, don’t you have any curiosity about the starry sky?"
"What?" Tang Ye paused.
However, Su Sigui just smiled without saying anything further. She turned around, and this time, she truly left. Tang Ye watched her recede into the distance, disappearing from his view at incredible speed, and then directed his gaze toward the night sky.
The tranquil night sky soared in vast darkness above the land, cradling deeper shades of serene blue, while clusters of stars strained to shine their own light, surrounding the pure white moon in a dazzling tapestry of the Milky Way.
People often say that every star in the sky represents a living soul on Earth. At that thought, Tang Ye’s mind envisioned the face of someone. Perhaps he now knew why Su Sigui had earlier remarked about the beauty of tonight’s nightfall—likely, she too was thinking of someone.
"Where the bright moon shines is my hometown..."
Tang Ye murmured to himself, repeating the words Su Sigui had said earlier. What significance did this phrase hold for her?
"Bright moon, bright moon... Is that why you founded the City of Bright Moon?"
The words Su Sigui left him with before her departure had enlightened him. With the strength Tang Ye possessed now, it seemed he had the capability to soar beyond the clouds, to gaze at the beauty of outer space, something he had never thought of doing before.
Having attained a certain level of power, perhaps it was time for him to witness the sights unseen from the ground.
Tang Ye’s head tilted back seventy degrees, just beneath that glittering, stunning river of stars, a storm surged from within his body! His figure slowly drifted upwards.
Boom!
As the storm roared again, tiny threads of black mist spread out, blending into the night. Blue electrical arcing suddenly enveloped Tang Ye, crackling around him as he rocketed skywards, like a freshly launched Dongfeng-41 intercontinental missile.
The full force of a Level 7 zombified being propelled Tang Ye into the heavens. At the same moment, survivors in nearby districts, including those in the Central United District, felt a disturbance from the anti-life material detectors they carried.
[Beep—Within thirty meters of you, an extremely dangerous target has been detected. Designated as a zombie, energy index... beep, energy data exceeds given values, smart detection marks it as 196200, unable to determine level, please update the system promptly.]
[Beep—Within five hundred meters of you, an extremely dangerous target detected... energy data exceeds given values... please update the system promptly.]
[Beep...]
"What the hell!?"
"Yours went off too?"
"Damn it, everyone’s devices are going off, what’s happening? Is there a zombie in the United District? Damn this data, definitely surpassed Level 6."
"Level 7 zombie... this data is at least a Level 7."
"Where, where! Where is the zombie?"
"Can’t detect any zombies, huh?"
"The device must be malfunctioning. We’d all be goners if there really was a Level 7 zombie."
"This is weird," they all mused.
Survivors on countless streets were thrown into panic by the anomalies on their anti-life material detectors, scanning their surroundings for suspicious entities but finding nothing. Meanwhile, a "meteor" shooting skyward caught their attention.
"Hey, do you see that? What is it?"
"A meteor?"
"Meteor my ass, have you ever seen a meteor fly upwards?"
"What’s that?"
"Could our devices be acting up because of that thing?"
"I don’t know, but it seems there’s no zombie. The highest level of zombies we’ve got are Level 6. If there really was a Level 7 zombie, I doubt we would be this lucky."
"Alright, disperse, nothing to see here. It’s just a device malfunction. If there were a real problem, things would have gone south already," some people in the crowd reassured the others. The commotion soon simmered down, but people couldn’t help but stay vigilant. Their anti-life material detectors had never failed before, but out of all the times, it was now that they malfunctioned. This made everyone uneasy, but after a while, with no incidents of mass slayings happening elsewhere, they had to assume it was a device error.
Or perhaps it was triggered by that upside-down "meteor."
The disturbance quickly subsided, and people went back to their prior routines. However, as for Tang Ye, relying on the absurd speed of a Level 7 zombie, he flew ever higher.
The land beneath passed by in glimmers at the edge of his sight, not shrinking, but rather expanding, with his piece of the United District becoming tinier and tinier.
Below on Earth, it was night where Tang Ye was, but as he soared upward, the darkness that should cover everything was lit up, allowing him to starkly see the entirety of Earth.
As he climbed higher, the continent beneath him gradually revealed more of its landmass, displaying stretches of green and shades of withered yellow, overtaken by the rampant evolutionary plants as well as the zombified ones. Earth curved increasingly into view as Tang Ye ascended.
Tang Ye did not know just how high he had flown, but now he could clearly see that the Earth was round and could feel it quite distinctly.
