Chapter 828 - 825 Two Paths
Chapter 828: Chapter 825 Two Paths
Guan Shan was suddenly captured, a scene that quickly caught the attention of all the survivors present.
For a moment, the Yesteryear Association soldiers disguised as survivors panicked, many of whom recognized Guan Shan since he was the closest to the registration window, drawing a lot of attention.
They wanted to see if they could slip past the Peace Party soldiers undetected.
But obviously, Guan Shan’s capture was not a matter of luck!
This realization caused the disguised Yesteryear Association soldiers within the crowd to start murmuring to themselves.
However, some clever ones began to sense something amiss.
"What to do? How was Guan Shan captured? How did the Peace Party know?"
In a line, several people huddled together, whispering amongst themselves.
"Damn if I know!"
"Hey, Old Yang, you’ve got good eyes and sharp ears. Do you have any idea what’s going on up front? Guan Shan’s capture seems weird. He couldn’t possibly have ’I am with the Yesteryear Association’ written on his face, could he?"
"Shut up, I’m not sure either. It looks like when it’s their turn, those soldiers just ask for a name and then let them go without asking anything about where they come from or who they are. Doesn’t seem like they’re registering."
A Level 3 New Human whispered, frowning deeply.
"They only ask for names, not other information?"
"Something’s off here, wait a minute, does the Peace Party have some sort of information? Otherwise, why would they so decisively capture Guan Shan?"
Someone’s words awoke them from their stupor, and a few began to ponder, after which one of them exclaimed in shock, but quickly composed themselves and gave an awkward smile to those around them.
"What’s up?"
Their companion beside them asked quietly. After looking around to ensure no one was paying attention to them, the person whispered back, "Did you know, when we first entered the Yesteryear Association... no, the Ping Army, we had to register for military duty to confirm our identity, right?"
"Oh yeah, what about it... wait a minute! You mean..."
Listening, the first few didn’t catch on right away, but after a while, everyone realized what they meant.
"You’re saying the Peace Party has logged the Yesteryear Association’s military service records, so as soon as we give our names, the Peace Party can look us up and we’re exposed!"
"Ma De, realizing it now is too late!" People’s faces were filled with panic as they watched Guan Shan being escorted into a prison van by a few Peace Party soldiers.
"Are you stupid? If giving your real name gets you caught, just give a fake name!" someone blurted out at that moment.
"Right!"
The others’ eyes brightened as they heard this. Yeah, a fake name. The Peace Party, no matter how omniscient, couldn’t possibly know everyone’s real names.
But just as they were resolved to do so, someone at the end of the line poked the person in front.
"What is it?"
"Isn’t it too early to rejoice?"
"What now?"
The Peace Party soldiers disguised as survivors pointed towards the arch-shaped security camera at the end of the corridor.
"Why install a camera out of the blue? If we can think about it, can’t the Peace Party? Besides, the identity tags do exist. If they take a photo and cross-check, they’ll find out the names we gave are fake."
As the word spread, everyone’s faces fell and dread set in.
"What do we do now? Just sit here and wait for death?"
They looked around, shaking their heads. This time, to blend in, they had discarded their firearms and only carried a few close-combat weapons for self-defense. And around them were the fully armed Peace Party soldiers in exoskeleton combat armor, who looked formidable.
If they tried to run, they could be shot on the spot. Even Old Yang, a Level 3 New Human, did not dare to make any rash moves. Not to mention the number of Level 3 New Humans they could see among the Peace Party soldiers, a Level 5 New Human was stationed not far away in the watchtower.
A Level 3 New Human stood no chance against a Level 5.
Right then, in one of the other lines, some people could not take it anymore, and they suddenly turned around and ran towards the Yulin Trade District. With the exit blocked by the Death Knight Corps, they had no choice but to go back!
But they wanted to go back, the Peace Party soldiers were not willing to let them.
"Attention, some are trying to escape, go after them, don’t let a single one get away."
"Forget it, just shoot those who try to run on the spot!"
Whoosh, whoosh, whoosh!
A few laser beams flashed by, and the Yesteryear Association soldiers who tried to escape immediately fell to the ground. Their death also doused the brewing escape plans of the other soldiers with a bone-chilling dread.
After shooting a few "survivors" trying to run, a Peace Party officer stepped forward: "Ladies and gentlemen, if you choose to leave the Yulin Trade District, don’t even think about coming back. This is for your safety. Our target is the rebels disguised as survivors. If you insist on leaving, that’s possible. Give us your information, and after we verify it’s correct with no abnormalities, the Peace Party will let you and your family leave. If you don’t have it or choose to leave forcibly, then we’ll have no choice but to execute you on the spot!"
"We’re doomed, didn’t make it out."
A few Yesteryear Association soldiers began to grumble again, sweat now beading on their foreheads.
"Should we run? Old Yang, make the call. This way we’re done for sure!"
"Ma De, the Peace Party really knows how to play mind games. If I had known, I’d have hidden in the sewers long ago, damn the bombing! Bloody hell!"
But Old Yang was tense, especially watching the people ahead in the line. The survivors were dwindling, and they were almost up.
What to do? Should they run? But the fate of their comrades who had tried was already clear.
"No, we can’t run. Haven’t you noticed? After Guan Shan was captured, the Peace Party didn’t kill him but locked him in the van."
Realizing something, Old Yang pointed to the prison van where Guan Shan had just been detained. The van shook, and Guan Shan’s cries came from inside: "Let me out, it wasn’t intentional, it was every man for himself!"
Old Yang continued, "I can’t guarantee this, but one thing is for sure, we won’t die immediately if we don’t run, but if we try to escape and fail, we’re dead instantly! However, the chances of successfully escaping are slim, so basically, we have two paths now. The first one, we come clean, let the Peace Party lock us up, and maybe we won’t suffer much. There’s also the chance we’ll be taken somewhere to be slaughtered."
"The second path, we run! But if we don’t escape, we die, whether sooner or later. Brothers, what’s your choice?"
Old Yang’s words were soft but loud enough for the few to hear clearly. After hearing him, they all shook their heads.
