Chapter 72: Chapter 69: Venting 2_1

"We’ve got food here, catch!"

Having eyed the two bags Tang Ye was holding out to him, the young man initially looked startled, then greed set in his eyes. He hurriedly snatched the food from Tang Ye, initially suspicious of why Tang Ye was being so discreet. Now, getting this food conveniently dispelled all his doubts.

Once he had the food, he shot a challenging look at Chen Chaoyang. "What’s this? You lied, didn’t you?" he asked.

As he finished his sentence, he reached out to kick Chen Chaoyang but was halted in mid-air by a gloved hand.

"There you go, all the food you could eat. Can we pass now?" Tang Ye said.

The young man eyed Tang Ye, conceded by his size. He figured that the food would at least suffice for a meal, so he softened his tone and said, "Alright, let’s go in."

Tang Ye and Chen Chaoyang together stepped into the teaching building, a look of agony etched on Chen Chaoyang’s face.

"Brother, why did you do that? We could have entered without giving him anything. Now we got beaten up and have no food left..." he grumbled.

"Shut up!"

A hoarse voice suddenly cut through Chen Chaoyang’s complaints.

"How do you want to let off steam?"

"No rush. There’re too many people at Wan Hanzhou’s place. We’ll go there tomorrow when his little followers are away to find food, and we’ll beat him up good!" Chen Chaoyang said with a look of rage.

Tang Ye and Chen Chaoyang, each accompanied by a corpse, made their way towards the second floor of the building. They were surrounded by boys and girls with yellowish complexions due to malnutrition. Many of them were slumped on the floor in despair, undoubtedly victims of the apocalypse.

Men suffered this fate, but the women had it even worse. Their clothes were torn and skin exposed. Some crazed boys were brutally violating a girl right in front of Tang Ye. Everyone else was either engrossed in their own business or blatantly standing by, completely indifferent to her plight.

The girl’s face was expressionless, as if she had become accustomed to such scenes, but the pain in her eyes was palpable. With the law and order gone in this apocalyptic world, the worst in people surfaced.

This was no fairy tale of a savior. Only the relentless darkness innundated their hearts, either they would get destroyed or assimilated.

Chen Chaoyang was inured to it, but Tang Ye couldn’t bear it. Since he became an undead, he hadn’t had much contact with the survivors. Unaware of their plight, what he saw today shook him to the core.

What’s wrong with this world?

Why is this happening?

Looking at the ecstatic and crazed boys, Tang Ye’s eyes flared with murderous intent. He strode towards them. Eyeing the formidable figure of Tang Ye, everyone around backed away in fear.

"You’re not worthy of being human!"

With that roared, Tang Ye advanced aggressively. One of the boys didn’t even have time to react before Tang Ye, with one hand around his neck, lifted him off his feet. Before the boy could understand what was happening, Tang Ye smashed him into a countertops with all his might.

Bang!

The boy’s head burst open, blood gushing out and he died instantly.

Bloody rage still seethed within Tang Ye after having killed a man in front of so many people. He ignored the startled looks around him and made his way to the remaining three boys.

The three boys were practically incontinent from fear, stumbling and falling as they tried to get away. As Tang Ye advanced with menacing white pupils, the air seemed to drop in temperature, and death seemed imminent.

"You... you... who are you? Stay away!"

"White... eyes... zo... zombie..." One of the boys noticed Tang Ye’s pale eyes and let out a horrified cry. But he couldn’t finish the sentence. Tang Ye was in front of him in a flash, twisting his head 360 degrees, and dropping his lifeless body to the ground.

"Die!"

With a loud roar, Tang Ye stormed at the remaining two boys who wanted to run away but found their legs too weak to move. All they could do was wait for death.

Snap!

Thud!

One after another, two more bodies fell to the ground. Tang Ye shook off the blood from his hands in disgust and turned to the girl who was still shaking from fear and violation.

As he extended his hand towards her, he quietly waited for her response.

"Thank you." She sobbed as she placed her hand in his.

Tang Ye helped her up only to trigger another bout of tears.

"Thank you... I..."

In this apocalyptic world, she had become accustomed to people’s indifference and had completely lost faith in humanity, but to her surprise, someone had come to her aid. She was both moved and saddened, ending up in a fit of tears.

Tang Ye watched her silently. His face hidden behind a mask and a hood revealed no expressions, but then Chen Chaoyang turned up at his side, gently tugging at his sleeve, "Brother, let’s not bother with her. Let’s go before we’re in more trouble!"

"Why are we leaving? Take me to the man you mentioned earlier!"

The hoarse voice of Tang Ye startled Chen Chaoyang, who hurriedly replied, "Not so fast. You... alright, let’s go!"

Chen Chaoyang switched mid-sentence. Prior to this moment, he was treating Tang Ye as a normal person, without realising that...

He is a level 2 zombie. What the f*ck was he afraid of?

Before long, Chen Chaoyang dismissed his fear of Wan Hanzhou and accompanied Tang Ye calmly towards Zhili College in the teaching building.

They followed the side path around the teaching building which led to the entrance of a beautiful, quaint courtyard. A sign at the entrance read "Zhili College".

Chen Chaoyang, looking up, stepped inside, trying to reassure himself internally.

Why should I be scared? I’ve got a Level 2 zombie at my back.

"Chen Chaoyang? What are you here for? Growing bolder, aren’t you? Haven’t been beaten enough? Get us the food. To survive here, you need to bring food to us!"

As soon as they entered Zhili College, one of the boys loudly called out to Chen Chaoyang. His complexion was much healthier than the survivors who had been holed up in their dorms.

"F*ck you. Call that Wan Hanzhou boy out. I need to settle a score with him," Chen Chaoyang snarled displaying his newfound confidence.
