Upon hearing this, Li Xiaojie looked angrily around at the people surrounding him. He had indeed grown stronger but at the cost of his freedom. And what the hell is this half-human half-zombie thing?

"Fu Miao, you drive him to Lin City. Take the remote. If he misbehaves on the way, just press it like this!"

"Yes!" replied the man named Fu Miao. He waved at Li Xiaojie for him to come over, then led him out of the old house.

Reluctantly, Li Xiaojie followed Fu Miao into the armored vehicle that Yan Xing had brought and headed towards Lin City.

Once Fu Miao and Li Xiaojie left, Yan Xing dropped his gaze and said, "Bring it to me!"

"Oh," the burly man replied, strolling into the room where Li Xiaojie’s surgery had been performed and brought out a strange box.

Yan Xing took the box, punching in a code into its numeric keypad. With a click, the box opened to reveal a half-filled screen and a slew of unfamiliar buttons.

The screen turned on showing Li Xiaojie’s perspective, which made Yan Xing crack a smile.

"Impressive!" He commended the burly man.

On hearing Yan Xing’s approval, the man returned a bashful smile. The others also gathered around to look into the screen.

As Li Xiaojie saw the armored car take a path he didn’t recognize, he turned to Fu Miao, "Where are we going? Isn’t it supposed to be Lin City?"

"We’re headed to Lin City. This route is just a bit longer," Fu Miao replied, his face impassive.

"Why didn’t we take the usual route? Was there need to go this far?"

Fu Miao gave him a disdainful glance and admonished, "I don’t care what you’re thinking, you better behave." Fu Miao then revealed the remote control in his hand.

"The route you suggest is indeed shorter. But, it’s too close to the safety zone. You might think about seeking help there, exposing us. I don’t know if Yan Xing told you, but that so-called secure zone is anything but secure. It’s surrounded by a zombie horde. They might not attack you, but the moment they sense anything fishy, they’ll rip you apart."

"Besides, with your current form...even if you avoid the zombie groups, do you think the soldiers would give you a chance to speak? Here is a path for you, join us, become one of us. Then wherever we go, you’ll have wealth and honor!"

But zombies evolve. It’s evident from this that the disaster won’t end soon. But what’s the number of people that have turned into zombies? One-third? Or two-thirds?

The emergence of new humans will split humanity into two classes: humans and new humans. Then, it’d be as Fu Miao said - a slave society. Humans will be made playthings for the new humans. Looking at Li Xiaojie, lost in thought, Fu Miao decided to stay silent, driving the car closer to the northern edge of Lin City.
