I am the Zombie King of the Apocalyptic World
Chapter 466 - 463 His Unspoken Name_1

Chapter 466: Chapter 463 His Unspoken Name_1

Upon hearing the name "Li Henian", disappointment flashed in Chen Bieli’s eyes. Someone had told her his surname, but hadn’t mentioned his given name.

She was always searching for that missing name, but wasn’t sure where to start.

The people around them were whispering, discussing Chen Bieli. In this post-apocalyptic world devoid of love and filled only with lust, when a man expressed his intent to marry a woman, it was extraordinary.

Knowing their boss’s name seemed to put an end to Chen Bieli’s inquiries. She looked up at the leader of the mercenary group and said simply, "Okay, let them go."

"Oh?"

There was a scornful laugh. The Demon Claw Mercenary Group’s leader scanned her face while peeling off the glove from his right hand with his left, revealing a hand with black, hardened skin that resembled a demonic claw radiating a chilling glow.

Snap!

His swift action left everyone in the dark as to how he’d made his move. A growl emitted from one of Shiwuguan Base’s new members, and then he slumped to the side, no longer breathing.

The remaining four tensed, wanting to say something but before they could, three had their necks twisted and collapsed on the ground. The last one was left staring in horror at what had just transpired.

"You..."

"I’m leaving you with half a life. You should live till tomorrow noon. Your boss’s name is Li Henian, right? I hope he gets to see you one last time. Tell him he’s a waste of space when you do. Those without real power should stop trying to play the big shot."

As he spoke, he shoved a piece of Yajin into the man’s mouth. Yajin, which was extracted from the Evolution Crystal, was crudely processed. Despite its refinement, some toxic substances remained inside which could turn the average person either into a zombie or reduce them to a puddle of pus.

A piece of Yajin could kill an ordinary person within twelve hours!

Having a Yajin forced down his throat, the man tried to vomit it up, but it was too late, he had swallowed it.

"No..."

Fear filled his heart. He regretted following his companions here. Had he not come, none of this would have happened. But in this world, there’s no cure for regret.

As far as the leader of the Demon Claw Mercenary Group was concerned, he’d never even heard of someone named Li Henian- probably just some local clown.

Chen Bieli frowned, looking at the leader of the Demon Claw Mercenary Group, and said in a deep voice: "Are you disrespecting me or not giving Yi Shao face?"

"I have no disrespect for you. But who does he think he is, this Jin Wenyi?"

"Oh, really? His father evolved to Level 4 yesterday."

"Oh?"

The leader of Demon Claw Mercenary Group looked a little surprised but quickly regained his composure, saying, "The strong prey on the weak. There’s nothing wrong with that. Plus, they offended me. I don’t need anyone else’s permission to kill them."

"You’re the best. Nobody dares to oppose you," Chen Bieli suddenly said, leaving the leader of the Demon Claw Mercenary Group stunned.

Giving a final glance at the fallen bodies, Chen Bieli walked quietly into the small door, leaving the group leader dumbfounded.

The commotion soon died down. The bodies were cleared away by the staff of the Chenghuang Hotel. As for the sole survivor, nobody dared to touch him. A Level 3 New Human from the Demon Claw Mercenary Group had left him here so he might get to see his so-called ’boss’.

Meanwhile, the Demon Claw Mercenary Group continued to revel in the hotel’s lobby, not the least bit concerned about the people they had just killed. Unbeknownst to their leader, he was in for a rude awakening the next day.

Having spent the night playing games on his phone, Tang Ye finally stopped when he saw the time—a little past ten in the morning.

After a reminder from Chen Chaoyang, he ate the meal delivered by the Chenghuang Hotel - not particularly rich, just some pickles with a bowl of thin porridge.

Such meals would have been scorned before the Apocalypse, yet now, it was a luxury many could only dream of, those teetering between life and death.

Moreover, these meals were expensive. From yesterday till now, the three hundred Yajin he had in hand had decreased to a little over two hundred.

Tang Ye did not touch the porridge. Though reaching Level 6 would restore some human senses, including the ability to eat normal food, due to his zombie palate, Tang Ye preferred food with a stronger taste. Hence, he only ate the pickles and not a single spoonful of the porridge.

Immediately after finishing eating, he heard Li Xiaoyan’s puzzled voice outside his room.

"Huh, where have so many of them gone?"

"What’s going on?" Tang Ye walked to the door and glanced at the opposite room, now vacant. The occupants from the night before were from Shiwuguan Base, but who knew where they were now.

"They’re gone."

"Maybe they woke up early and went out."

"That’s not it. Look at the access card still in the door. It’s marked for noon. How come they haven’t returned?"

Tang Ye was confused. Where on earth were the five of them?

However, he didn’t dwell on it for long. The remaining people gathered their belongings and descended the stairs. Their initial plan was to survey Qinshan Base and familiarize themselves with its operations. Then, based on Chen Chaoyang’s suggestion, they would set up a mercenary group. In fact, not just one, but over a dozen groups, each headed by a Level 3 New Human.

In Shiwuguan base, there were five such individuals - Yan Jie, Wu Pingzhan, Dai Changhao and forty-seven Level 2 New Humans. This meant they could set up dozens of high-quality mercenary groups and gradually take over the Qinshan Base.

Tang Ye implemented this plan not only to control Qinshan but also to change the mindsets of all its people - to transition their hostile views towards zombies in favour of a different perspective.

Just as they stepped out of the Chenghuang Hotel building, Tang Ye’s group overheard snippets of conversations around them about two significant events. The first was the son of Jin Liudong being overpowered by a mysterious man yesterday, resulting in the loss of an arm. The second concerned the five missing people.

"I know, right, a Level 6 New Human? Either he’s crazy or has a death wish. Don’t know what he was thinking, trying to show off in front of the Demon Claw Mercenary Group. He should know better."

"Heh, well, you never know, it might just be true."

"How could it be? We’ve got so few Level 5s, let alone above that. Ever heard of any from any base?"

"Are you an idiot? What about that Zombie King from Lin City?"

"Heh, yeah, forgot about him. Still, those five guys had pretty terrible deaths. Their bodies have probably been used to distill people’s liquor by now."

"..."

They overhead these exchanges and exchanged looks. Then they eyed the speakers, their accents were strong and some of the dialect was hard to understand. Yet Tang Ye caught the key words in their banter.

Demon Claw Mercenary Group? Five men? Dead? Distilled into people’s liquor?
